I just bought the smallrig 120 x 30 one for 130$, its a Bowens mount. Comes with the inner diffuser too. The best part is it is so easily foldable. Very excited to try the different ways to use it, will post results of my experiments soon.
Great break-down! Sometimes I use just one stripbox, vertical position quite close to the model and slightly feathered. That tends to give a very nice, even and slimming effect due to the narrow beam of light. I am sure the same light can be achieved with other modifiers but the stripbox is very easy to control.
I have two of these for edge-lighting people, but until I watched this video it never occurred to me to try using one horizontally! That definitely goes on the to-do list…
Great video Karl Taylor like all the ones you have made! Love how you showed us the many ways one can use the 30 X 120 Strip Box, truly with only 2 of those there are so many things one can do. Thank you Sir for all the great content you and your Team make for us all to Learn from!
Good explanation of this type of softbox and its purposes. Besides even the cheapest available striplights far below 100 €/ $ come with inner diffusion...
great presentation. I am interested in westcott 1x4 stripbox with bowens adapter. looks easy on site. Great to hear that you don't use grid (even for dual side lighting ?) because grids are more expensive than softboxes !!! In your courses do you have classes about taking photos of pregant woman ? reason why i was looking for stripbox to accentauate the belly,... and hair behind...
good video! ive got a strip box (1x3 foot) so the 'same size' as yours but ive not played with it much. i have no model to stick in front of my camera... i need to shave and get the self timer going i guess
I've watched many of your videos which have improved my understanding of light, for which I'm very grateful. Recently, I've been shooting headshots using a 90cm parabolic softbox on a boom as my primary/key light with acceptable results. However, I've observed headshot photographers using the so-called "Peter Hurley" lighting setup with (2) 30cm x 90cm (12" x 36") strip boxes forming the 2 vertical sides of a triangle and either another strip box or reflector forming the base of the triangle and tends to provide an even amount of light over the image. I'm curious to hear your opinion of using these strip boxes in this way vs. your preferred method of shooting headshot portraits.
Hi thank you and I think you'd be best to check out our portrait classes, I think the business ones would be particularly what you are looking for visualeducation.com/portrait-photography/
Karl, Love this one also!! I'm getting used to using a SB I mist add this to the collection. Yes be aware!!! you get what you pay for!! I've tried to save a little here and there... i'm always disappointed. Thank you.
A white environment like that is going to bounce light around and affect the performance of the various light modifiers you are comparing. Fine if the intent is to incorporate the room reflection characteristics into the total lighting 'system'. In order to truly understand how each modifier behaves on its own, either an all block room or shooting outdoors at night is needed.
Hi, we're not sure we understand your message but we'd love to give you an answer if we can. What does Mfg mean? Who would be upset from the models wearing makeup? Unfortunately we're not quite clear on what is bizarre for this demo? If you could clarify your comments we'd be happy to respond thank you.
The Godox one costs just 30... Double layer diffusion plus grid aswell... Bowens mount with speed ring in aluminum aswell...
Ive two Godoxs and they are fine
do you have a link to the product?

Sill loving my two Cheetah Q12x55s...less, not cheap, has internal diffusion, built like a tank and has a quick release system.

Excellent explanation Karl
Appreciate the comparison with other brands and the warning about the diffuser.

Do you prefer only one rim light or two (left and right)?
Very helpful review in considering what light modifiers to get.

Excellent, as we have come to expect. Thanks very much for your continued very clear explanations.

It’s my fave too! Just soooo many great uses. Great breakdown as always 🔥
Is it worth having 3... two side lights and a clamshell front of face?

Hello teacher, what is this website to observe the light effect
I can't find that strip light accessory modifier
How long does it take to put together? The ones I'm finding are a pain to assemble. Are there any that are quick collapse?
Hi, it has 4 poles and the ring plus the fabrics, it takes me about 5mins.

Eye-opening! TY
i dont know why we cant get them here in kenya i would lovee to get them
Anybody knows how to connect bowens stripbox to Siros?
hope you can come to China one day
It's a great modifier, but the disassembly is painfully difficult.
Get the “umbrella” style assemble ones. Sets up in 2 sec.
Sell ! Sell ! Sell ! Photographers love to buy gear,
By make a bad photo
Dude! If i was the Mfg. I would be pissed that you use such made up models to promote their products! Why so bizarre for a demo? Wow?
