Col de la Croix, Col du Pillon & Col des Mosses (Switzerland) - Cycling Inspiration & Education

- After exploring the sensational Col du Sanetsch earlier in the season with Alain Rumpf from Grand Tours Project, Alain mentioned we'd be welcome back anytime. Well, like a carrot dangled tantalisingly in front of a rabbit naturally that was an offer we simply could not pass up, especially with peaks as glorious as those found in the Swiss Alps!
Today we're venturing into the Vaud Alps for a classic loop starting at the UCI World Cycling Centre in Aigle before tackling the triple bill of the Col de la Croix, Col du Pillon and Col des Mosses. Approximately 100km in length with close to 2,500m elevation gain, the prospect of 3,000m high glaciers, waterfalls and regional cheese sounded like the perfect recipe for a truly exceptional day on the bike!
Start: Aigle
Distance: 108km
Highest point: 1,778m
Elevation gain: 2,458m
Max gradient: 14%
Thank you to our partners Mavic, Cannondale, Exposure Lights, Lezyne, MyPower by InfoCrank, Muc Off, The Sufferfest, TORQ and USE for enabling us to bring these truly special mountains to life for you all. If you're in need of new bike kit in the future and you enjoyed this video then bear them in mind and help keep the wheels turning :-)
Special thanks to Alain Rumpf and Valais tourism for helping us pull this ride together and the opportunity to experience such a wonderful region. Fortunately there are many more mountains to explore so we're looking forward to taming a few more Swiss peaks one day.

I was privileged to live in Villars and I trained on these mountains almost every day. Switzerland is the most beautiful country anywhere for riding a bike and for hiking. Thanks for excellent video!
The shooting, the music selection, the editing, everything in this series is
according to a high standard of quality.
Thank you, Mike Cotty.
I thank you all who are part of this team.
Thank you very much for your appreciation. I spend a huge amount of time trying to capture the essence of each moment, to give the same feeling I had when I was there. Ride safe, Mike
Switzerland is *too* perfect to be real that sometimes I feel more relaxed when returning to France and start seeing some imperfections.
Haha so true :-)
Nagyon szép teljesítmény gratulálok és ezek a hegyek fantasztikusak!
I can watch your video’s all day and because of this I go to Schwiss next year with my cyclingfriends to enjoy
Switzerland might not have those 'iconic' Tour and Giro climbs but the scenery is without a doubt the most beautiful. More than France or Italy or Spain a cycling trip of Switzerland is definitely a bucket list item.
and less traffic too
It helps that the country is mostly mountains... Belgium does not look like that ;-)
Definitely not.
Take a look on Cols like Bonette, Agnel or Nivolet.
France and Italy are much more fascinating than Swizerland.
@@frankfrohmann1504 + traffic + wide roads. You can't ride Furka, Grimsel, Gotthard etc. on summer, the traffic kills you. And don't forgot the fantastic Dolomite or Pyrenees passes.
@@frankfrohmann1504 hahahaha Albula, Flüelen, Splügen, San Bernardino, Klausen, Pragel, Gottardo, Grosse Scheidegg, Männlichen and this doesn't even take into account any of the climbs in Valais nor are these all climbs in central and eastern Switzerland.
Ach, die Schweiz ist so schön xxx. Danke Mike u. Alain!
The closest I came to Switzerland was descending through the Umbrail Pass, in late June this year, on a glorious day on which I rode up the west then east sides of Passo dello Stelvio. This video has just confirmed that I want to ride the Swiss parts of the Alps also :)
You're welcome any time! Have a look at www.grandtoursproject.com/tours for inspiration :-)
OMG!.. How wonderful is this place!.. It is totally magical!!... I really, really, really want to cycle some of these places one day!!..💐🌺🙏Thank you for being such an inspiration!!..👏👏👏👏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks mike .... beautiful nature, wonderful movie .... I want to be there ... now!!!
THAT’S MY TRAINING CLIMB😍 I do them every week.
Matrix 2000 me too in july!!!
What is the nicest starting place/ascent?
Bex, Ollon, Aigle?
Great video. I'm putting this ride on my list. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful day of work! And, Happy Birthday Mike!
Is there a better candidate for the perfect ride? Absolutely stunning - and fantastically shot. Thank you!
Superb Mike and team, you have captured our local area and local climb so well it's beyond words and of course Alain is a fabulous guide and riding partner
I had the pleasure of riding from Geneva to Arbon Switzerland. Your video makes me want to go back there and do so more exploring. Well done Mike.
I was lucky to cycle that exact route in 2013 on a brevet cycling holiday. Absolute heavenly place for cycling. I think I met Alain also !
Nice. That definitely made riding on the rollers much more enjoyable. Reminds me of my road rides back in the 60's before there were cars everywhere.
So Beautiful, Inspiring & Awesome ! Thank You for yet another excellent video!
Big thank you mike and Alain incredible scenery
Super video, super climbers, as usual at Col Collective!
nothing feels better than riding a bike in the mountains!
Perfect in every aspect!!!! Thanks for another great video!
Finally! Switzerland content! Keep it coming please.
Was over at the world cycling center in the spring.. definitely recommend it for a visit. Stayed in a B&B near the châteaux in Aigle.
Great ride man! Well done!!! Beautiful route!
Wow amazing. I cycled on exactly those roads in 2013 with brevet cycling tours. 😀😀😀
Hi Gerard, I remember you :-) I was a guide on that trip. Hope you are well
Great ride indeed. I did it the other way round on Aug 1. Beautiful scenery 👍🏻
so inspiring and beautiful
Wow just amazing! Congrats!
Awesome video as always, you should do a bit on the bike you ride and your guest's bikes....2-3 mins, basic info; brand, model, components, and especially the gearing ....Great as always with the perfect music score to go along
Superb guys
For the people who are wondering about cars; For sure we do have :D But the roads where are shown here are famous and more confident for cycling and motorcylists, not for cars (normal residents there uses other roads or the highway). We do have perhaps the most exciting mobile pass roads in europa (About 15), the most famous are in central switzerland with a peak over 2'200m. But mosty people do not know, that the west area of our country where i live has aswell some amazing, smaller pass roads. Not as high and wide as the others (You have to pay attention when you are crossing another), but with a beautiful panorama. I prefer these, its more quit like you can see it. And if you are alone on a saturday morning, you can fly over it with your car :)
Greetings from switzerland
Great video, really got me psyched to get out and do the parcours I've had in mind for a bit, now if my injured ankle would just co-operate...
Good luck Greg. Hope the ankle is ok? 🤞🏼
Hey! I was in Gryon for July! Did the Col de Croix
I live in Gryon :-) Hope you enjoyed our mountains
Had to sub, EXCELLENT channel!!!
Being a rider THIS is just fantastic to watch!!
Awesome video loved it .
Saludos desde Oaxaca, México.
You have to come back and do the Grosse Scheidegg from Meiringen. I live in Switzerland and can safely say it's the most spectacular climb in the country (thus maybe the world). Do it at sunset for the ultimate experience.
We've got Grosse Scheidegg from Grindelwald on the way. I agree it is an absolute beauty!
I assume it is too late this year, isn't it?
It's better from the other side! I guess you'll just have to come back...
As long as you can handle the cold, nope not at all.
looking fwd to it!
Ca doit être bien en été !
so beautyful !
you captured it in short etapes, wonder there are no other bikers on the road :-)))
DRAAMATIC DESCENT DUBSTEP??! Amazing
One thing to mention in Switzerland you can drink the water of most fountains/ spring which makes it much easier
Excellent point!
Are there any cars in Switzerland? ;-) Stunning video as always!
Colle del Nivolet should be covered at some point, it looks amazing!
Stay tuned, Nivolet is on the way!
really bowled me over
Bel video e belle strade senza traffico. Ma i motociclisti che fanno il Gran Premio li trovo solo io?
Thank you Mike, it was real plesure to watch this stunnig video. Btw. do somebody know what is the jacket Mike is wearing?
Hi Igor, I'm using the Mavic Cosmic Wind jacket, it's an older model in the range, the latest is the Cosmic Wind SL available in black or yellow. You can find out more at www.mavic.com. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching. Mike
YES Alain is with you!?? he didn't say anything... schade
He is the best for swiss roads!!
This Mike guy is a fucking BEAST!!!
Nice. As always. What width tyres is Alain riding? 28mm?
Yes! I love them. Super comfortable, yet fast enough to follow Mike :-)
Magnificent !!! Absolutely amazing. . Could do you let me know please the Lezyne computer version are using ? Thanks for your remarkable work!!
I'm using the Lezyne Enhanced Super GPS. Compact, great battery and packed with features. Love it!
Thanks for your feedback !!

Why the hell the streets are completly empty?
What date and time you prefer for you videos?
Sporty regards!
We prefer it when there are no cars around ;-)
Stunning, Really great!
What is that yellow watch? Looks pretty nice, just very curious:)
Cheers
Andrzej M
Hi Andrzej, super happy you enjoyed the video. The watch is a Tag Heuer Connected. Hope that helps. Ride safe. Mike
A few years ago I went to the region to ride the Tour of Gruyere and did a local tour that took me through Gstaad and then up the Pillon and Col des Mosses. This has to be one of the most beautiful areas in the world to go riding! Switzerland offers amazing landscapes, superb roads and lots of really, really good cheese. An excellent video once again! www.tindonkey.com/2012/10/the-chateau-doex-square-ride.html
Great ride, what’s the jacket you slip on for the descent mike?
Hi Joel, it's the Mavic Comsic Pro Jacket, super lightweight and easy to throw into a rear pocket. Hope that helps! Ride safe, Mike
I really like the yellow kit you're wearing in this video. Is it available on the market? IF so, where?
Hi Kevin, yep it's available. Just look for Mavic Cosmic Elite jersey and bib shorts. You should be able to get it from a Mavic retailer or direct from Mavic on their website Mavic.com. Hope that helps. Ride safe, Mike
They had the bibs, but not the jersey. Looks like they're setting up for winter.
Great video! GPX files?
What is the best town to stay in for this ride - Aigle itself? Thanks!
I'd recommend staying in and starting from Villars. It's a beautiful village halfway up the Col de la Croix, so you won't need to do this monster climb in one go!
I am hypnotizes
Mike - who composes music for you? link ...?
Wow. Not much more needed to be said.
and please notice...not many cars!
8:28 Is he sliding a bit?
In all of these videos the words are not completely readable because they disappear too early. Can’t you edit them for a few seconds longer?
For a Londoner like me this is cycling porn. Sorry if I've ruined it.
Are cars banned from these roads??…second video I’ve watched and seen nothing except a train.....no wonder people are fit 😊🥴
