    Awesome ! Skill & Craftsmanship are being lost to high tech and that is sad. It is always nice to see craftsmen become as one with the material they are working....

    Hiya Mark, Daft question, but is it worth welding the socket edges closed or do you find them sturdy enough just rolled over?
    Cheers for a great video by the way, I'll have a go meself!

    Great vid, nice job. Thank you. I know a few folks that could use some bodkin points. Subscribed. Thank you for the lesson.

    Beautiful. But I thought you would harden and temper them. Why do you think that is necessary?

    After making them to size. Do you look for an average weight as well? And if so what would it be?

    I love the videos, I'm trying to replicate a broadhead, if you google triangular medieval broadhead, it's huge, how would you make large heads?

    +Welther47 arrowheads are forged in mild steel or iron. In medieval period, as you may know, arrows were mass produced and steel was reserved for other arms and armour. Surprisingly, mild steel works just fine for square bodkins like this. I've been shooting my own hand forged points for my whole SCA archery career and they work fine. However, some people like higher carbon for their broadheads.

      Arrowheads were made of steel in the medieval period, otherwise they'd be too soft for piercing armor.

      Watch Ryder while there are examples of steel arrow heads, most arrows didn't need to pierce armor and so didn't need to be steel. It also very much depends on when you are talking about. Generally speaking, the earlier the time period the more expensive the steel.
      All that to say, for most of the medieval period, most arrow heads were not made of steel.

      Depends what part. Early times yes it was more expensive. By Agincourt steel arrowheads were everywhere in the English ranks...

    • @SeadartVSG
      @SeadartVSG 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zemas You can make arrowheads from a piece of reinforcement bar, he can sell these for a good price for his time and skill - more fun to do it yourself though.
