I found this video just now so I watched it. It says it’s from 6 years ago. It was great to know about that DEF fluid you got that damaged your diesel truck. Sorry that happened. I hope they took that DEF off the market so no else buys it and it happens to them. I’m glad you got the truck fixed and they found out what it was. Had the same problem, took off the DEF tank. Sloshed with hot water and drained 3 X. The second time, I left hot water sit in tank for 15 minutes. What I learnt is just to keep DEF level at half tank. This allows the heater in tank to keep DEF warm easier. Originally thought a super full tank was best, in this case less is more 👍✅🇨🇦
I have always gone to my local truck stop and used the DEF pump that the trucks use. It’s actually less expensive and the place I go is very busy so I feel confident that the DEF they are dispensing is always fresh.
I run Peak DEF in my Ram 1500 ECO Diesel and never had any problems for 3 years, it’s good to see this video because I will definitely start checking the dates on the DEF . I think I would send that bill to PEAK .
Its NOT PEAKS FAULT! Its the stores fault for not rotating the product properly. Old product on the shelf and your in for a repair bill. CHECH THE MANUFACTURS DATE before you purchase it!
I'm so glad I'm driving a pre Def diesel, 7.3 power stroke! '97 f250 436,000 miles! If I had to buy another truck it would be a used powerstroke! To he'll with $70 to $100 for a new truck! That's insane, paid $23, 500 for mine with 19,000 mile on the odometer! $30,000 new! Hand crank windows, vynal floor mat! No power crap to tear up!
Biggest tip is learning to decipher the manufacture date code. I just bought a 2.5 gallon Blue DEF the day after Thanksgiving and it was manufactured the last week of October. I've seen plenty of jugs sitting on shelves that were well over 6 months old or even a year. The shelf life is supposed to be longer in ideal conditions, but I don't mess with the freshness of my DEF.
I worked in heavy truck dealership service departments for many years. Diesels used to be 250k trouble free engines. These days youll be lucky to get that before the engine is completely done. Also within that time youll be living with check engine lights, fouled charge air coolers, blown turbos, all of which you paid a premium to experience. Good on ya.
And how is all of that related to DEF? DEF is injected into the SCR catalytic system which is part of the exhaust system. Now the fact that diesel trucks have to use exhaust gas re-circulation (EGR) as part of emissions reduction can cause the problems you cite - but, that's NOT DEF RELATED.
@buckhorncortez it's the particulants that get recirculated back into the engine/oil. It's like walking around with a hose out of your rear and into your mouth and trying to breathe
Thats not true thats the old diesel dump system. Rhis def does not recycle at all it bonds with the carbon and turns it into hydrogen and oxogen some say wayer but its just the molicules. .@whitetail229

The filter on our semi truck cost $4,500. and we had to replace it at least twice a year. We looked into getting a delete kit and we were told straight up that it would be a $6,000 dollar fine to be caught without it. Our home base doesn't really have emission laws but the problem is we travel through multiple states/provinces and every one has different laws on the matter. So if you're legal in one place you're not in another. Crazy.
I have a 2015 Ford F-350 with the 6.7L diesel and I have ran Peak Blue DEF since I bought it new (112k miles on my truck now) and I’ve never had one issue with my DEF.
I also deleted my cummins its a 2012 witch is pre def but it still had the emissions/engine killing garbage now I don't have to change my oil every 2500 miles and I'm getting 100 miles to a tank better. And it only cost me $1,200 to do it my self. While your at it do the crank case ventilation delete as well it will save your turbo and keep you from getting premature oil leaks also. Keep us posted👍
I always get the def at the truck stops. It just moves faster and no time to sit. I do get the walmart brand to keep a box in the truck if I'm going out west because of the windy area uses more of it. I used a full tank between Texas border alone one day. I had to use my back up bottle . I refill the jug at the truck stop and use it every so often then refill and keep in the back. never get the def boxes at truck stops. they often sit outside and in the heat. get them from a box store or walmart where they are stored inside in a cool dry place. heat distress def badly.
Adblue def fluid uses 33% urea, 67% de- ionised water. Sensor works on thermal conductivity, i.e., concentration.. Syphon the bad stuff out of the tank. Add the good fluid. They say you can't trick the sensors, but others say distilled water works ok.
Fantastic video, albeit at your expense. I have driven F250 diesels since 2011. I"ve been using DEF this entire time and had no idea as to an expiration date and the possible damaged to be caused from "bad" DEF. In fact I have 2 boxes of Blue in my warehouse that have been sitting there for about 8 months. I think I'll just throw them out and keep using fresh.
Craig Barnthouse Why don’t you order some pH test strips or buy a kit from pool supply chem dealer and test for pH of 4-8? Should be stable in that range. It decomposes to carbon dioxide and ammonia. Result would be a distinct odor and higher pH. Compare pH with household ammonia.
@@FrankGutowski-ls8jt The problem is crystalization. I'm on my phone so I can't do computer things on it. Bur if you read earlier comments. Someond explained that the aging fluid will start to form crystals , which block up the system. Makes sense. Guy explained to avoid ANY crystals getting in system can screw it up. Suggested flushing area of filler, nozzles , not reuse containers because if any dries it forms crystals.
@@dkafsky Does it only go bad in the box? How about the DEF in your vehicles tank? You're mixing old with new, the tank is never full for very long, crystals could form in the top part of the tank.
Ive been scouring the internet trying to find a resolution for my audi q7 tdi adblue fault...stumbled on this video and its a godsend!!! I normally use the walmart brand but grabbed the peak brand while in AutoZone thinking whats the difference? My adblue sensor hasn't reset since despite topping the tank off with that peak crap! Thanks VAN ! My next step is draining that crap and refilling before spending $$$ on unnecessary repairs!
Thanks for the tip and sorry it had to happen. Bu my story may make you feel better. In 2004 I bought a brand new dodge 3500 with the cummins, awesome truck. But during the 2008 pres. election, someone sabotaged my truck. They apparently didn't like the McCain sign in my yard. Anyway, someone poured something into the tank and the truck just pretty much wouldn't run at all. I had it towed to the local dodge dealer. They checked it, tested the fuel and found something mixed with the diesel that they couldn't identify but it made the fuel look like milk. So, $16,000.00 (sixteen THOUSAND American dollars) and a week later, i got my truck back. I was told they had to replace pretty much everything that had anything to do with the fuel system. But I had no choice. (I did buy a locking fuel cap right after that) Lastly, the service guy at the dealer asked if i had contacted my insurance company about it, I said no. He said well do because it was obviously sabotaged and they may pay at least part of it. So I called triple A and they agreed. So in the end i only (only?!) had to pay about $7k of that $16k and they picked up the rest. Now the moral of the story. Keep a locking fuel cap on your vehicle, and don't post political signs in your yard if you're a conservative because some Libtard may come by and destroy your property. This same thing happened to us. On my 2015 RAM. Although we bought the brand that Atwoods handles, it is a cheaper brand. I added the DEF, drove the truck 100 yards and the “check engine” light came on, and code flashed up saying i needed to service the DEF SYSTEM SEE DEALER. So i took it to the nearest nearest dealer. His code scanner said the DEF i put in, ruined the complete DEF system and everything needed to be replaced, and told me that it would be several thousands of $$$$ to replace the entire system! And the guarantee was this could happen again in the future!!! So i went home and done research and it was cheaper to have that junk taken off! So i had that done and I’ve haven’t been happier with not having to worry about adding DEF ever again. Truck runs better then it ever had since I’ve owned it. No judgment here. I was informed by an engineer in the automotive industry that DEF is actually Urea amonia, not actual urine...developed by your friends at Mercedes in Europe over twenty years ago. He suggested having it deleted if you can. Food for thought.
My powerstroke uses 0.02 gallons on DEF per one gallon of diesel burned. Periodically pull into a truck stop fuel pump. Something similar to a Pilot Flying J or the other competitors I can’t think of now. Most places near me it’s $2.99 per gallon for DEF. It’s trucking industry grade Urea and also doesn’t have the same self life issues as the bottle brands at retail stores. Also, the truck stop DEF storage tanks are cleared out and replaced with fresh DEF fluid more regularly than the Bottles in WalMart. So you can rest assured your getting quality DEF fluid, fresh DEF fluid and even better it’s about 1/3 the price as BLUEDEF
Just bought 2 jugs of this stuff for my 2020 RAM 3500 from AutoZone. This is my first diesel and I wanted to have some on hand. I only used a little bit of it as it looked like I was about to make a mess and I came to youtube to get a tutorial for adding it. I'm going to check the dates right now.
Thanks for posting this! You can also buy the Mopar DEF right from the dealership and it’s pretty much the same price. It has a date code in English on it that tells you exactly when it expires. I don’t understand how some people try to save 2 to 3 dollars on a jug of DEF and take the risk on an $80,000 truck. My new ram 3500 will only get Mopar DEF and I’ll keep the receipts and if I get a bad jug when the date code said it was good guess who’s paying for the flush, not me. Detroit city mechanic has a great video on the testing tools available as well. Watch the test strips they can be almost as expensive as the analog refractometer which is infinitely reusable.

Hello guys, I'm a truck driver and we have the same DEF system. emergency situation like that, all you can do is to disconnect the speed sensor from the transmission, and you will be able to drive 2k Miles if you want , but you may not be able to get full power for speed, for example no more than 65mph ,
+NorthFace I wish I was mechanical enough to do that if needed. My wife would sure be constantly asking if I was sure I was disconnecting the right thing. :-)
DEF stands for Desiel Exhaust Fluid. Yes there is a shelf life on DEF. the properties in DEF is 32.5% Urea. And 68.5% distilled water. You cannot make a home brew for it to work. It will flag a fault code. It has quality sensors inside the DEF tank.
Travel And Fishing Adventures that's why it's tuned it tricks the computer and tells it everything is working. If there's no lights on nothing comes up during emissions.
Mike Bird! I must agree with your comment. I drive a Volvo and disconnected the DEF. I must say that the fuel mileage is much greater with that mess disconnected.
Best def is the kind you get at the loves or pilot at the pump. Because it fresher then the kind they have on the shelf plus it's $2.75 per gallon not 14.99 for 2.5 gallons. Before I did my def delete I carried a 5 gallon gas can just for def. If you buy at the pump its on the fuel side where the big trucks fuel when u get the nozzle
+Ray Gallegos Since my one and only fail with DEF I’ve only put DEF in at Pilot’s in the truck fuel lane. Cheaper and has to be better. I have had one person on here comment that their failure came from diesel in the DEF at a truck stop so not everything is perfect I guess.
Motor City Mechanic has 2 videos on DEF, watch them, you'll learn a lot, he said not to use the def at these stops because they put new def fluid in over the old def.. which makes sense

After all said and done, you pay truckers over twenty dollars a day for financing pollution system ALONE to deliver freight, big rip off, short life of system. $600 A month on top of other costs to truckers, many are hurting. There is a truckstop close to my house where I fill my DEF fluid tank up. It’s much cheaper and easier to fill. No box to throw away and nothing to spill. I am not sure if every truckstop has a DEF fluid pump but if they do it’s the best way to go.
My Eco Diesel is down with a sensor out & a pump out on the DEF system because no one in the Chrysler dealership ever told about bad DEF. VERY upsetting! Thanks for the information.
Had this issue with my 2015 Chevy 2500 coming back from buying a large quantity of stock feed. Dealer claimed DEF tank needed to be drained and cleaned which would have cost $475.00 which wasn't covered by the service plan and I told them it was a bad NOX sensor which was covered. Turns out it was a bad NOX sensor and when I showed the readings from the code reader showing the live data to get them to fix it the dealership people and mechanic turned and walked away not wanting to talk to me anymore. Bad small town Chevy dealership, bad machanic, bad design.
Most national truck stops have DEF at the diesel pumps. That is what the truckers use and it’s only a couple dollars per gallon. Just pay and pump it in like you would diesel fuel. I highly recommend that instead of the box stuff.
It depends a lot of the temperature it is stored in but one year is the norm. They are supposed to pull it from the shelves but I’m betting since most of us don’t know much about this they don’t either and I’d bet they never pull it.
I have seen on u tube of people putting water in the def tank and it works u might try that they have been doing it in semi trucks and it doesn't affect the engine at all just to let u know
Sorry for the bad experience....as a truck driver it's really redeculse how much time I have to do a Regen to get this filter clean ...the only way around is to delete the system I was tired enough but I did it 💪
dysfunctional engine fluid garontee to mess up the dpf system be sure to check the filters for the dpf make sure its cleaned cause the fluid will build up the carbon from the exhaust stick inside the filter I had my peterbilt and Kenworth in the shop more times than needed because of the def system fooling the dpf sensor and carbon build up great video tho
Around 12 bucks for a 2.5 gallon jug at Wal-Mart but roughly 2.99 a gallon at the truck stop pump. I've heard you can unplug the vehicle speed sensor to get around that 5 mph de-rate limit too. I hate that junk and my diesel doesn't even use it being a 95 7.3L Powerstroke. Got a little on my hands when I was filling the DEF tank on my dad's 2013 Mack Granite and that was no fun either. Made my hands brake out in a real bad rash that burned like hell.
As Far as going to Walmart to Buy my DEF thats just in an emergency situation what i suggest is to buy it all from one trusted source maybe a local Lubricant Dealer or Heavy Truck Dealer or Service Shop or even from Any Cummins Certified shop or dealer in your case and carry it with you and to test it also is a great thing i have test strips and a Refractometer
Those adblue tanks need an evacuation port so you can empty the old stuff out. Def can lose it's concentration in the tank if the urea reacts with any contaminants left in there. I've often wondered if adding pure urea pellets to bad DEF in the tank to reach effective concentration would fix the issue.

I'm loving my 1995 Ford F250 7.3 powerstroke diesel more and more all the time. She's only got 165,000 miles on her and I plan to drive her till the day I die. I'm aware of a 7.3 that went over 900,000 miles - oldie but goodie.
The same thing happened too me. My wife and I had to camp out in the dealers parking lot till they fixed it. It happened in the middle of nowhere in Florida. That's why I'm looking into deleting it all. The system is no good. I'd be glad to put a system on that WORKS.
My def system failed on my 2016 Ram 3500. Not sure if it was the dpf or the injector or the pump or all three, but was quoted $3k if the dealer could get the parts and he didn't have any parts. I checked out a mechanic in Canada where they don't require DEF systems, (too cold up there I guess). So I bought all new stainless steel 5 inch exhaust and a new computer controller, $3k total, never been happier , wish I would have done it when the truck was brand new , to heck with the warranty. Now, no error codes, no limp mode, no expensive def fluid, more power, more fuel mileage, cleaner oil. I love this truck now.
@@leoyudysky I had a 2014 ram diesel problems that cost a lot of money with that DEF. I bought a 2020 Silverado diesel and I’ve got 75,000 miles fully my camper all over the country and haven’t had a problem yet. I’m driving around like that it’s always on my mind. Plus, I bought a tester on Amazon to test the def before I put it in.
DEF fluid is all about controlling Nitrous oxide emissions in the exhaust stream. DEF fluid does have a shelf life. You are probably best buying it from a truck stop 'bulk fuel island nozzle' as it will more likely be fresh from volume Vs a hug that sat on the store shelf for who knows how long. I am a diesel mechanic by background but in today's times I would lean more toward a gas engine unless I planned on doing a lot of pulling or racking up insane miles on a diesel. For the cost premium to buy the diesel option along with the DEF fluid hassle and the long term maintenance issues it's modern diesel you can buy a lot of extra gasoline for them dollars.
What happens is the yeriea (amoniea) seperates from the water when it sits so shake it and if you have the stuff to check it do so.i don't have it worry yet since i do live in cancerfornia were everthing gives you cancer there my dino does not need and or have a dpf .my truck is a 1991 ford F250 with a 7.3 liter indirect inject navistar diesel.the def is for after treatment to remove what is called nox (nitrousoxide).in a nut shell it's used to turn dino farts in to unicorn farts.
Damn, I just had this happen to my 16 ram. Apparently the last box of peak I put in was bad. Within a few days the def tank gauge is ready all over the board despite the tank being 3/4 full. Dropped the tank to find a white foamy layer in the bottom. Ugh. F"" Ing DEF sysyems!!!! I had deleted my 08 and the fuel mileage went from 13 around town to 19!!! How in the f@@ can they justify sacrificing that much fuel mileage in the day of high fuel prices?
I recently purchased A 2014 Freightliner (barely 100k miles on it, with a 200k Cummins warranty) ran fantastic for about 3 months (always using DEF at truck stop pumps). One day DEF pumps were inop, so we added Peak Blue DEF (2.5 gal jug) we had purchased 60 days prior, never opened, never exposed to extreme temps. Later that same day the DEF & check engine lights came on, so far I've spent $3,000 with my regular mechanic for new DEF pump, new DEF lines, etc. Didn't solve problem !!! Now truck at Freightliner about to spend $3,000 more on doser pump ? I curse the day I ever bought the Peak Blue DEF. So far my truck has been out of service about 3 weeks and counting. Apparantly none of this is covered by the Cummins warranty.
Man I can’t count the number of folks who have commented on this video that have your easer situation. Your expense and pain makes my little expense seem so small. So like me you will never again add DEF from a container will you? So sorry to hear. Hope it gets resolved soon. I would seriously hire an attorney and get speak to reimburse for cost and pain.
My best advice and I can speak for myself since I own a new generation diesel myself. Delete it. Delete your whole emission system. I’ve done it and haven’t had a lick of problems since. In fact. She runs BETTER than the day I drove her off the lot brand new.
I have never bought box DEF. I have always gone to the truck stops. First, the per gallon price is less expensive than the box DEF. You pay over inflated prices for 2-2.5 gallons when doing at a truck stop you can fill the DEF tank for less than $15.00-$20.00 and you have a fill DEF tank.
Never use DEF period. Delete that garbage emissions equipment and get a longer lasting engine and more power/torque and MPG to boot. DEF, DPF, and SCR are completely unnecessary for lowering emissions. If you disagree, please explain how burning a lot more fuel reduces emissions? Especially since the exhaust has a diesel injector that serves no other purpose then to burn fuel to create heat in the exhaust to blow out a filter that is there to reduce emissions..... I'd love to see how bad the emissions are on a diesel that's undergoing a regen. I'll bet it's hundreds of times higher than allowed by the EPA under normal circumstances.
Diesel Exhaust Fluid is the term one way to get good fluid is to use the bulk dispenser at a reputable truck stop, Pilot, Flying J, Loves etc. many people think that WalMarts automotive fluids are of cheaper quality, however, for example oil it's been independently tested and shown to be of high quality from a top quality brand/supplier. If you've been using these products without problem why change. The availability of product is excellent with Wal Marts being everywhere.
Best solution DPF delete. If not fill up at Pilot or truck stop fuel station that is busy. But thanks for this I didn't realize it expires. Good to know!! I've always gone to truck stop bc previous owner of truck reccomend it.
Hey Denver Prater. Thanks for commenting. This DEF thing was so much of a headache I sold the truck. Not because I had more problems though. I didn't... at least not after I started getting DEF from truck stops.
Not a stupid mistake. I kinda see it as Wal Marts fault for not rotating stock enough. Buy the stuff at truck stops. They burn through so much that it doesn't have time to go bad. I work on a ton of Powerstrokes and Cummins and DEF is a pain along with DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). I don't know about laws in Canada but you might consider deleting all that junk. It is what will eventually kill your engine. Stop by and see us in Colorado. Have a great trip.
I have thought long and hard since this happened about doing a delete on the 2500. May just do that when we get back from trip out west. We are heading into CO for a few days on the trip. Good to know we have friends there in case something happens. I appreciate your knowledge, support and encouragement. I agree with truck stops... we don't have one in our mountain town but I always do that when rolling down the road. I'll let you know if I do the delete.
I agree. Buy DEF from a truck stop fuel pump, not a gallon container. They rotate much quicker that way. I have a cascadia and every fill up takes about 1.2 or 1.5 gallons of DEF and I never had an issue.
Do you have any tricks for not filling too fast? Seems like every time I fill DEF at the pump I have a hard time not spilling it because of how quickly it comes out.
My auto diesel mechanic says he has seen a lot of pickups with a white buildup in the systems of trucks that run cheap DEF more than with Blue DEF. I can see the shelf life being a big factor and obviously most people are just trying to save money by not buying the good stuff so it sets on the shelf longer. IF you screw up and realize you put it in the fuel tank, DON'T even turn the ignition key on and save yourself thousands of dollars. All that has to be done is dropping the fuel tank rather than the ENTIRE fuel system having to be removed. Just a FYI.
I had a very smart friend screw up and put it in the fuel tank. Man that was expensive. I used the cheaper Walmart brand for 2 years and then when I switched to Blue DEF that was when my issue happened. Could have been there all along and the timing was just right. I am a u.s truck driver. The truck had about 110,000 km when I bought it. I have used pump def since day 1. I now have 650,000 plus km on my truck. At around 500,000 km my def injector went bad. The turn over on pump def is very high, because commercial trucks use about 70 liters per 6500 km driven.
I feel your pain! While I do agree that DEF is garbage, you need it for your warranty. I personally go to the truck stop fuel pump to top mine off. It's cheaper and easier than the boxed stuff. Plus you can be guaranteed a good batch of it.
I just got the DEF contaminated light on and now engine in idle mode. This contamination never happened when I used the boxed stuff. Only after I pumped DEF at the truck stop!

Wow! Once was enough for me. We are selling our 5th Wheel now and as soon as it sells the diesel truck will be traded or sold ASAP too. Not because of the diesel or the truck itself because we love the power of the truck, but if I don’t need that much power I’m sure not going to deal with the DEF and extra costs. Walmart might be in the wrong. Peak had nothing to do with it; they sold it to walmart, and now it's in their hands. Of course, in court, the owner will hold some (or all) of the blame for not checking the expiration, and/or checking the strength of the fluid before using it.
Get a cheap suction pump from Harbor Freight and drain it yourself. Takes about 15 minutes to drain add mopar DEF fluid. Save yourself some money. DO NOT store DEF fluid in your truck.

I have a 2017 Ram, last weekend it through the "service def system see dealer" message. I was out of town, weekend, no dealers open. Got down to within 15 miles of the 5mph derate and it cleared itself... I had just put in a fresh jug of Peak DEF two days before. Also happened same way a year ago except I went to the dealer, they had it a couple days. Tested everything they could test, couldnt find a fault. Couldn't clear the code. They ended up flashing my pcm and sent me down the road.... been the only gripe with the pickup so far 👍
$9k for the diesel option, higher fuel cost per gallon and then an extra $1500 to remove all the frustration causing emissions? No thanks I'll keep my gasser. Thanks EPA, you've ruined diesels for this country.
Having watched a lot of diesels (around here mainly with younger guys driving) with smoke billowing into the air when they stomp on the accelerator I understand the need to make it a cleaner exhaust. Seems the intention was good but the execution long term and the quality control might be a miss. As with anything those that can figure out a way to make money on it and these shady dealers seem to be locked in on that. It does seem like it might not be worth it... until you pull that heavy load and the engine just doesn't seem to know it's back there... then it's a nice feeling. And like my son-in-law said, it sounds like a man's truck. :-)

Fast forward 40 years and who drives off the lot in a late model gas anything,and rips the cats off? at least the gas engine stuff works in harmony with the engine. My truck took a crap within 50 miles of adding some a few years ago, My check engine lights came on and had to get to the dealer within 200 miles. I took it in and the dealer said it was bad DEF and contaminated. I sent a sample to peak and they said it was fine. It cost me about $1000 for that
I've used Peak Blue DEF in my '15 RAM 1500 since new. No issues. I keep meaning to get the dingus that lets us use the DEF pump at truck stops, though. Anywho, A full DEF tank lasts an oil change, 10K miles in my case.
I only use peak platinum blue def in my Titan XD. never had an issue. You should learn how to clean the def injector. You using peak was more than like;y just a coincidence.
some mechanics can just bypass that system "Delete" so you don't have to use it anymore. the cat and Egr clean the exhaust pretty good. if in your area you dont have emissions control just delete.
I had the same thing happen to me if you don't mind turning a wrench you can drain the def with the tank in the truck 4 bolts 1 electric connector 1 hose connector and a big flat blade and hammer to turn the lock ring that holds the pump in, it's on the bottom of the tank and can be done without raising the truck

It is not legal to bypass or delete emissions controls on your vehicle. You have to buy one that didn’t come with it from the factory. Of all the emissions controls DEF is one of the least problematic.
@@concretejungle77 no. BUT, they get worse fuel economy because they burn more fuel for a regen. Same thing with VW TDI's the last of them had DEF and got 8-15 mpg better than the non-DEF cars. My 12' RAM gets atrocious fuel econ towing our big toy hauler. But it'll pull it up the rockies without issue. I suffer the FE loss by not having to breath the soot and nox. Being in the Diesel repair world for 17 years has caused a serious asthma issue with me.
My understanding is that the shelf life is driven by warmer temperatures. If your vehicle sits in a hot driveway then beware. The limp mode for these vehicles is a disaster. Make 40 mph but not 5mph.
There is another option you can get def at almost any truck stop right at the pump. I go to pilot truck stops and I keep my def topped off at every stop.

I seriously would like to see a video about the dpf def filled with fresh urine and find out if it works better than the blue filtered portapoty dpf def water. Or if it would clog the system more than the blue piss water.

I found this video just now so I watched it. It says it’s from 6 years ago. It was great to know about that DEF fluid you got that damaged your diesel truck. Sorry that happened. I hope they took that DEF off the market so no else buys it and it happens to them. I’m glad you got the truck fixed and they found out what it was. Had the same problem, took off the DEF tank. Sloshed with hot water and drained 3 X. The second time, I left hot water sit in tank for 15 minutes. What I learnt is just to keep DEF level at half tank. This allows the heater in tank to keep DEF warm easier. Originally thought a super full tank was best, in this case less is more 👍✅🇨🇦

I have always gone to my local truck stop and used the DEF pump that the trucks use. It’s actually less expensive and the place I go is very busy so I feel confident that the DEF they are dispensing is always fresh.
I run Peak DEF in my Ram 1500 ECO Diesel and never had any problems for 3 years, it’s good to see this video because I will definitely start checking the dates on the DEF . I think I would send that bill to PEAK .

Walmart brand works great with a date,like normal no codes to try to figure out.

Sounds like you have it figured out.
Biggest tip is learning to decipher the manufacture date code. I just bought a 2.5 gallon Blue DEF the day after Thanksgiving and it was manufactured the last week of October. I've seen plenty of jugs sitting on shelves that were well over 6 months old or even a year. The shelf life is supposed to be longer in ideal conditions, but I don't mess with the freshness of my DEF.
That is why I am still driving my 2005 2500 diesel!!!
I worked in heavy truck dealership service departments for many years. Diesels used to be 250k trouble free engines. These days youll be lucky to get that before the engine is completely done. Also within that time youll be living with check engine lights, fouled charge air coolers, blown turbos, all of which you paid a premium to experience. Good on ya.
And how is all of that related to DEF? DEF is injected into the SCR catalytic system which is part of the exhaust system. Now the fact that diesel trucks have to use exhaust gas re-circulation (EGR) as part of emissions reduction can cause the problems you cite - but, that's NOT DEF RELATED.

The filter on our semi truck cost $4,500. and we had to replace it at least twice a year. We looked into getting a delete kit and we were told straight up that it would be a $6,000 dollar fine to be caught without it. Our home base doesn't really have emission laws but the problem is we travel through multiple states/provinces and every one has different laws on the matter. So if you're legal in one place you're not in another. Crazy.

I have a 2015 Ford F-350 with the 6.7L diesel and I have ran Peak Blue DEF since I bought it new (112k miles on my truck now) and I’ve never had one issue with my DEF.
Send the bill to Peak. Make sure you clean the DEF injector often as well. Tube vids on that

I also deleted my cummins its a 2012 witch is pre def but it still had the emissions/engine killing garbage now I don't have to change my oil every 2500 miles and I'm getting 100 miles to a tank better. And it only cost me $1,200 to do it my self. While your at it do the crank case ventilation delete as well it will save your turbo and keep you from getting premature oil leaks also. Keep us posted👍

I always get the def at the truck stops. It just moves faster and no time to sit. I do get the walmart brand to keep a box in the truck if I'm going out west because of the windy area uses more of it. I used a full tank between Texas border alone one day. I had to use my back up bottle . I refill the jug at the truck stop and use it every so often then refill and keep in the back.
never get the def boxes at truck stops. they often sit outside and in the heat. get them from a box store or walmart where they are stored inside in a cool dry place. heat distress def badly.

Sensor works on thermal conductivity, i.e., concentration..
Syphon the bad stuff out of the tank. Add the good fluid.
They say you can't trick the sensors, but others say distilled water works ok.

Fantastic video, albeit at your expense. I have driven F250 diesels since 2011. I"ve been using DEF this entire time and had no idea as to an expiration date and the possible damaged to be caused from "bad" DEF. In fact I have 2 boxes of Blue in my warehouse that have been sitting there for about 8 months. I think I'll just throw them out and keep using fresh.

Why don’t you order some pH test strips or buy a kit from pool supply chem dealer and test for pH of 4-8? Should be stable in that range. It decomposes to carbon dioxide and ammonia. Result would be a distinct odor and higher pH. Compare pH with household ammonia.
@@FrankGutowski-ls8jt The problem is crystalization. I'm on my phone so I can't do computer things on it. Bur if you read earlier comments. Someond explained that the aging fluid will start to form crystals , which block up the system. Makes sense. Guy explained to avoid ANY crystals getting in system can screw it up. Suggested flushing area of filler, nozzles , not reuse containers because if any dries it forms crystals.
@@dkafsky Does it only go bad in the box? How about the DEF in your vehicles tank? You're mixing old with new, the tank is never full for very long, crystals could form in the top part of the tank.
Ive been scouring the internet trying to find a resolution for my audi q7 tdi adblue fault...stumbled on this video and its a godsend!!! I normally use the walmart brand but grabbed the peak brand while in AutoZone thinking whats the difference? My adblue sensor hasn't reset since despite topping the tank off with that peak crap! Thanks VAN ! My next step is draining that crap and refilling before spending $$$ on unnecessary repairs!

Thanks for the tip and sorry it had to happen. Bu my story may make you feel better. In 2004 I bought a brand new dodge 3500 with the cummins, awesome truck. But during the 2008 pres. election, someone sabotaged my truck. They apparently didn't like the McCain sign in my yard. Anyway, someone poured something into the tank and the truck just pretty much wouldn't run at all. I had it towed to the local dodge dealer. They checked it, tested the fuel and found something mixed with the diesel that they couldn't identify but it made the fuel look like milk. So, $16,000.00 (sixteen THOUSAND American dollars) and a week later, i got my truck back. I was told they had to replace pretty much everything that had anything to do with the fuel system. But I had no choice. (I did buy a locking fuel cap right after that) Lastly, the service guy at the dealer asked if i had contacted my insurance company about it, I said no. He said well do because it was obviously sabotaged and they may pay at least part of it. So I called triple A and they agreed. So in the end i only (only?!) had to pay about $7k of that $16k and they picked up the rest. Now the moral of the story. Keep a locking fuel cap on your vehicle, and don't post political signs in your yard if you're a conservative because some Libtard may come by and destroy your property. That was DEF fluid all right Nathan. People mistakingly put it in thier diesel tank and it destroys the whole engine pretty much.

This same thing happened to us. On my 2015 RAM. Although we bought the brand that Atwoods handles, it is a cheaper brand. I added the DEF, drove the truck 100 yards and the “check engine” light came on, and code flashed up saying i needed to service the DEF SYSTEM SEE DEALER. So i took it to the nearest nearest dealer. His code scanner said the DEF i put in, ruined the complete DEF system and everything needed to be replaced, and told me that it would be several thousands of $$$$ to replace the entire system! And the guarantee was this could happen again in the future!!! So i went home and done research and it was cheaper to have that junk taken off! So i had that done and I’ve haven’t been happier with not having to worry about adding DEF ever again. Truck runs better then it ever had since I’ve owned it. No judgment here. Each to their own decisions here. Thank you

My powerstroke uses 0.02 gallons on DEF per one gallon of diesel burned. Periodically pull into a truck stop fuel pump. Something similar to a Pilot Flying J or the other competitors I can’t think of now. Most places near me it’s $2.99 per gallon for DEF. It’s trucking industry grade Urea and also doesn’t have the same self life issues as the bottle brands at retail stores. Also, the truck stop DEF storage tanks are cleared out and replaced with fresh DEF fluid more regularly than the Bottles in WalMart. So you can rest assured your getting quality DEF fluid, fresh DEF fluid and even better it’s about 1/3 the price as BLUEDEF

Just bought 2 jugs of this stuff for my 2020 RAM 3500 from AutoZone. This is my first diesel and I wanted to have some on hand. I only used a little bit of it as it looked like I was about to make a mess and I came to youtube to get a tutorial for adding it. I'm going to check the dates right now.

You can also buy the Mopar DEF right from the dealership and it’s pretty much the same price. It has a date code in English on it that tells you exactly when it expires.
I don’t understand how some people try to save 2 to 3 dollars on a jug of DEF and take the risk on an $80,000 truck. My new ram 3500 will only get Mopar DEF and I’ll keep the receipts and if I get a bad jug when the date code said it was good guess who’s paying for the flush, not me.
Detroit city mechanic has a great video on the testing tools available as well. Watch the test strips they can be almost as expensive as the analog refractometer which is infinitely reusable.

Hello guys, I'm a truck driver and we have the same DEF system. emergency situation like that, all you can do is to disconnect the speed sensor from the transmission, and you will be able to drive 2k Miles if you want , but you may not be able to get full power for speed, for example no more than 65mph ,

DEF stands for Desiel Exhaust Fluid. Yes there is a shelf life on DEF. the properties in DEF is 32.5% Urea. And 68.5% distilled water. You cannot make a home brew for it to work. It will flag a fault code. It has quality sensors inside the DEF tank.
Just see a video where two trucks were filled with straight water an ran fine. One for over 20 days
once we run out the warranty, I did a def egr delete with a small tune. My 13 Ram runs much better and I get much better fuel millage.

Mike Bird! I must agree with your comment. I drive a Volvo and disconnected the DEF. I must say that the fuel mileage is much greater with that mess disconnected.

Best def is the kind you get at the loves or pilot at the pump. Because it fresher then the kind they have on the shelf plus it's $2.75 per gallon not 14.99 for 2.5 gallons. Before I did my def delete I carried a 5 gallon gas can just for def. If you buy at the pump its on the fuel side where the big trucks fuel when u get the nozzle
+Ray Gallegos Since my one and only fail with DEF I’ve only put DEF in at Pilot’s in the truck fuel lane. Cheaper and has to be better. I have had one person on here comment that their failure came from diesel in the DEF at a truck stop so not everything is perfect I guess.
Motor City Mechanic has 2 videos on DEF, watch them, you'll learn a lot, he said not to use the def at these stops because they put new def fluid in over the old def.. which makes sense

After all said and done, you pay truckers over twenty dollars a day for financing pollution system ALONE to deliver freight, big rip off, short life of system. $600 A month on top of other costs to truckers, many are hurting. There is a truckstop close to my house where I fill my DEF fluid tank up. It’s much cheaper and easier to fill. No box to throw away and nothing to spill. I am not sure if every truckstop has a DEF fluid pump but if they do it’s the best way to go.

Had this issue with my 2015 Chevy 2500 coming back from buying a large quantity of stock feed. Dealer claimed DEF tank needed to be drained and cleaned which would have cost $475.00 which wasn't covered by the service plan and I told them it was a bad NOX sensor which was covered. Turns out it was a bad NOX sensor and when I showed the readings from the code reader showing the live data to get them to fix it the dealership people and mechanic turned and walked away not wanting to talk to me anymore. Bad small town Chevy dealership, bad machanic, bad design.

Most national truck stops have DEF at the diesel pumps. That is what the truckers use and it’s only a couple dollars per gallon. Just pay and pump it in like you would diesel fuel. I highly recommend that instead of the box stuff.

It depends a lot of the temperature it is stored in but one year is the norm. They are supposed to pull it from the shelves but I’m betting since most of us don’t know much about this they don’t either and I’d bet they never pull it.

dysfunctional engine fluid garontee to mess up the dpf system be sure to check the filters for the dpf make sure its cleaned cause the fluid will build up the carbon from the exhaust stick inside the filter I had my peterbilt and Kenworth in the shop more times than needed because of the def system fooling the dpf sensor and carbon build up great video tho

You have no idea how aftertreatment even works. Def is injected downstream of any filters.
ben basicker you have no idea- water will cause second filter to clog without amonia, the second filter clogs then nothing moves.
Around 12 bucks for a 2.5 gallon jug at Wal-Mart but roughly 2.99 a gallon at the truck stop pump. I've heard you can unplug the vehicle speed sensor to get around that 5 mph de-rate limit too. I hate that junk and my diesel doesn't even use it being a 95 7.3L Powerstroke. Got a little on my hands when I was filling the DEF tank on my dad's 2013 Mack Granite and that was no fun either. Made my hands brake out in a real bad rash that burned like hell.

As Far as going to Walmart to Buy my DEF thats just in an emergency situation what i suggest is to buy it all from one trusted source maybe a local Lubricant Dealer or Heavy Truck Dealer or Service Shop or even from Any Cummins Certified shop or dealer in your case and carry it with you and to test it also is a great thing i have test strips and a Refractometer
I been using the walmart def for years. One mistake I see people do is not shake the box before pouring
Those adblue tanks need an evacuation port so you can empty the old stuff out. Def can lose it's concentration in the tank if the urea reacts with any contaminants left in there. I've often wondered if adding pure urea pellets to bad DEF in the tank to reach effective concentration would fix the issue.

I'm loving my 1995 Ford F250 7.3 powerstroke diesel more and more all the time. She's only got 165,000 miles on her and I plan to drive her till the day I die. I'm aware of a 7.3 that went over 900,000 miles - oldie but goodie.

The same thing happened too me. My wife and I had to camp out in the dealers parking lot till they fixed it. It happened in the middle of nowhere in Florida. That's why I'm looking into deleting it all. The system is no good. I'd be glad to put a system on that WORKS.
My def system failed on my 2016 Ram 3500. Not sure if it was the dpf or the injector or the pump or all three, but was quoted $3k if the dealer could get the parts and he didn't have any parts. I checked out a mechanic in Canada where they don't require DEF systems, (too cold up there I guess). So I bought all new stainless steel 5 inch exhaust and a new computer controller, $3k total, never been happier , wish I would have done it when the truck was brand new , to heck with the warranty. Now, no error codes, no limp mode, no expensive def fluid, more power, more fuel mileage, cleaner oil. I love this truck now.

I bought a 2020 Silverado diesel and I’ve got 75,000 miles fully my camper all over the country and haven’t had a problem yet. I’m driving around like that it’s always on my mind. Plus, I bought a tester on Amazon to test the def before I put it in.

DEF fluid is all about controlling Nitrous oxide emissions in the exhaust stream. DEF fluid does have a shelf life. You are probably best buying it from a truck stop 'bulk fuel island nozzle' as it will more likely be fresh from volume Vs a hug that sat on the store shelf for who knows how long. I am a diesel mechanic by background but in today's times I would lean more toward a gas engine unless I planned on doing a lot of pulling or racking up insane miles on a diesel. For the cost premium to buy the diesel option along with the DEF fluid hassle and the long term maintenance issues it's modern diesel you can buy a lot of extra gasoline for them dollars.

What happens is the yeriea (amoniea) seperates from the water when it sits so shake it and if you have the stuff to check it do so.i don't have it worry yet since i do live in cancerfornia were everthing gives you cancer there my dino does not need and or have a dpf .my truck is a 1991 ford F250 with a 7.3 liter indirect inject navistar diesel.the def is for after treatment to remove what is called nox (nitrousoxide).in a nut shell it's used to turn dino farts in to unicorn farts.

Damn, I just had this happen to my 16 ram. Apparently the last box of peak I put in was bad. Within a few days the def tank gauge is ready all over the board despite the tank being 3/4 full. Dropped the tank to find a white foamy layer in the bottom.

I recently purchased A 2014 Freightliner (barely 100k miles on it, with a 200k Cummins warranty) ran fantastic for about 3 months (always using DEF at truck stop pumps). One day DEF pumps were inop, so we added Peak Blue DEF (2.5 gal jug) we had purchased 60 days prior, never opened, never exposed to extreme temps. Later that same day the DEF & check engine lights came on, so far I've spent $3,000 with my regular mechanic for new DEF pump, new DEF lines, etc. Didn't solve problem !!! Now truck at Freightliner about to spend $3,000 more on doser pump ? I curse the day I ever bought the Peak Blue DEF. So far my truck has been out of service about 3 weeks and counting. Apparantly none of this is covered by the Cummins warranty.
Man I can’t count the number of folks who have commented on this video that have your easer situation. Your expense and pain makes my little expense seem so small. So like me you will never again add DEF from a container will you? So sorry to hear. Hope it gets resolved soon. I would seriously hire an attorney and get speak to reimburse for cost and pain.
My best advice and I can speak for myself since I own a new generation diesel myself. Delete it. Delete your whole emission system. I’ve done it and haven’t had a lick of problems since. In fact. She runs BETTER than the day I drove her off the lot brand new.

I have never bought box DEF. I have always gone to the truck stops. First, the per gallon price is less expensive than the box DEF. You pay over inflated prices for 2-2.5 gallons when doing at a truck stop you can fill the DEF tank for less than $15.00-$20.00 and you have a fill DEF tank.

Never use shelf def. go to Truck stop and use def at the pump for 279 per gallon.
my problem started when I filled up at truck stop. So that's not the fix..
Never use DEF period. Delete that garbage emissions equipment and get a longer lasting engine and more power/torque and MPG to boot.
DEF, DPF, and SCR are completely unnecessary for lowering emissions.
If you disagree, please explain how burning a lot more fuel reduces emissions? Especially since the exhaust has a diesel injector that serves no other purpose then to burn fuel to create heat in the exhaust to blow out a filter that is there to reduce emissions.....
I'd love to see how bad the emissions are on a diesel that's undergoing a regen. I'll bet it's hundreds of times higher than allowed by the EPA under normal circumstances.

Diesel Exhaust Fluid is the term one way to get good fluid is to use the bulk dispenser at a reputable truck stop, Pilot, Flying J, Loves etc. many people think that WalMarts automotive fluids are of cheaper quality, however, for example oil it's been independently tested and shown to be of high quality from a top quality brand/supplier. If you've been using these products without problem why change. The availability of product is excellent with Wal Marts being everywhere.

DEF stands for Diesel Exhaust Fluid. If you do a long trip, stop by a truck stop and fill up our def there. It’s usually cheaper than buying boxes.
Getting a diesel is not what it used to be. The tree huggers need to be all rounded up and sent to the moon.

Hey Denver Prater. Thanks for commenting. This DEF thing was so much of a headache I sold the truck. Not because I had more problems though. I didn't... at least not after I started getting DEF from truck stops.
Not a stupid mistake. I kinda see it as Wal Marts fault for not rotating stock enough. Buy the stuff at truck stops. They burn through so much that it doesn't have time to go bad. I work on a ton of Powerstrokes and Cummins and DEF is a pain along with DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter). I don't know about laws in Canada but you might consider deleting all that junk. It is what will eventually kill your engine. Stop by and see us in Colorado. Have a great trip.
I have thought long and hard since this happened about doing a delete on the 2500. May just do that when we get back from trip out west. We are heading into CO for a few days on the trip. Good to know we have friends there in case something happens. I appreciate your knowledge, support and encouragement. I agree with truck stops... we don't have one in our mountain town but I always do that when rolling down the road. I'll let you know if I do the delete.

I agree. Buy DEF from a truck stop fuel pump, not a gallon container. They rotate much quicker that way. I have a cascadia and every fill up takes about 1.2 or 1.5 gallons of DEF and I never had an issue.
Do you have any tricks for not filling too fast? Seems like every time I fill DEF at the pump I have a hard time not spilling it because of how quickly it comes out.
My auto diesel mechanic says he has seen a lot of pickups with a white buildup in the systems of trucks that run cheap DEF more than with Blue DEF. I can see the shelf life being a big factor and obviously most people are just trying to save money by not buying the good stuff so it sets on the shelf longer. IF you screw up and realize you put it in the fuel tank, DON'T even turn the ignition key on and save yourself thousands of dollars. All that has to be done is dropping the fuel tank rather than the ENTIRE fuel system having to be removed. Just a FYI.
I had a very smart friend screw up and put it in the fuel tank. Man that was expensive. I used the cheaper Walmart brand for 2 years and then when I switched to Blue DEF that was when my issue happened. Could have been there all along and the timing was just right. so if you run it on fresh morning pee it should work best since it's the freshest that you could get 😊
I am a u.s truck driver. The truck had about 110,000 km when I bought it. I have used pump def since day 1. I now have 650,000 plus km on my truck. At around 500,000 km my def injector went bad. The turn over on pump def is very high, because commercial trucks use about 70 liters per 6500 km driven.

I feel your pain! While I do agree that DEF is garbage, you need it for your warranty. I personally go to the truck stop fuel pump to top mine off. It's cheaper and easier than the boxed stuff. Plus you can be guaranteed a good batch of it.

I just got the DEF contaminated light on and now engine in idle mode. This contamination never happened when I used the boxed stuff. Only after I pumped DEF at the truck stop!
I had the same issue with my Ram 2500 4 times!! Cost me well over $1500!! I won’t ever buy a diesel with DEF on it again! Delete kit cures the problem

Wow! Once was enough for me. We are selling our 5th Wheel now and as soon as it sells the diesel truck will be traded or sold ASAP too. Not because of the diesel or the truck itself because we love the power of the truck, but if I don’t need that much power I’m sure not going to deal with the DEF and extra costs. Sorry it happened to you though!
You need to sent Peak the repair bill and 3 rental car days bill. If they don't pay it you file a small claims court action against them.
Walmart might be in the wrong. Peak had nothing to do with it; they sold it to walmart, and now it's in their hands. Of course, in court, the owner will hold some (or all) of the blame for not checking the expiration, and/or checking the strength of the fluid before using it.
Actually , the EPA should have to pay the bills on everyones DEF troubles. I have a code showing right now and I'm " pissed " ya might say !

Get a cheap suction pump from Harbor Freight and drain it yourself. Takes about 15 minutes to drain add mopar DEF fluid. Save yourself some money. DO NOT store DEF fluid in your truck.

Chances are you would be just fine but the odds are much better getting from truck stops.
I have a 2017 Ram, last weekend it through the "service def system see dealer" message. I was out of town, weekend, no dealers open. Got down to within 15 miles of the 5mph derate and it cleared itself... I had just put in a fresh jug of Peak DEF two days before. Also happened same way a year ago except I went to the dealer, they had it a couple days. Tested everything they could test, couldnt find a fault. Couldn't clear the code. They ended up flashing my pcm and sent me down the road.... been the only gripe with the pickup so far 👍
So, why did you not share with us, the information on how to check to see if it is out of date?
$9k for the diesel option, higher fuel cost per gallon and then an extra $1500 to remove all the frustration causing emissions? No thanks I'll keep my gasser. Thanks EPA, you've ruined diesels for this country.
Having watched a lot of diesels (around here mainly with younger guys driving) with smoke billowing into the air when they stomp on the accelerator I understand the need to make it a cleaner exhaust. Seems the intention was good but the execution long term and the quality control might be a miss. As with anything those that can figure out a way to make money on it and these shady dealers seem to be locked in on that. It does seem like it might not be worth it... until you pull that heavy load and the engine just doesn't seem to know it's back there... then it's a nice feeling. And like my son-in-law said, it sounds like a man's truck. :-)

The diesel emissions equipment is akin to the early 70s gas engine stuff. Horsepower robbing and killing mileage.

My truck took a crap within 50 miles of adding some a few years ago, My check engine lights came on and had to get to the dealer within 200 miles. I took it in and the dealer said it was bad DEF and contaminated. I sent a sample to peak and they said it was fine. It cost me about $1000 for that

I've used Peak Blue DEF in my '15 RAM 1500 since new. No issues. I keep meaning to get the dingus that lets us use the DEF pump at truck stops, though. Anywho, A full DEF tank lasts an oil change, 10K miles in my case.
I only use peak platinum blue def in my Titan XD. never had an issue. You should learn how to clean the def injector. You using peak was more than like;y just a coincidence.
I’ve started doing that too in our new van. More $$ but better peace of mind.
some mechanics can just bypass that system "Delete" so you don't have to use it anymore. the cat and Egr clean the exhaust pretty good. if in your area you dont have emissions control just delete.

I had the same thing happen to me if you don't mind turning a wrench you can drain the def with the tank in the truck 4 bolts 1 electric connector 1 hose connector and a big flat blade and hammer to turn the lock ring that holds the pump in, it's on the bottom of the tank and can be done without raising the truck

It is not legal to bypass or delete emissions controls on your vehicle. You have to buy one that didn’t come with it from the factory. Of all the emissions controls DEF is one of the least problematic.
@@concretejungle77 no. BUT, they get worse fuel economy because they burn more fuel for a regen. Same thing with VW TDI's the last of them had DEF and got 8-15 mpg better than the non-DEF cars.
My 12' RAM gets atrocious fuel econ towing our big toy hauler. But it'll pull it up the rockies without issue. I suffer the FE loss by not having to breath the soot and nox. Being in the Diesel repair world for 17 years has caused a serious asthma issue with me.

My understanding is that the shelf life is driven by warmer temperatures. If your vehicle sits in a hot driveway then beware. The limp mode for these vehicles is a disaster. Make 40 mph but not 5mph.
Peak products are usually a choice of last resort.
It is for us now.
There is another option you can get def at almost any truck stop right at the pump. I go to pilot truck stops and I keep my def topped off at every stop.

Diesel exhaust fluid. It's main part is urea... not urine.
