  • Are you gifted with overexcitabilities, too, or gifted without overexcitabilities, or not gifted but with overexcitabilities? Tell me about it in the comments section, please.

Good morning, Edvin! Like you, I have all of the OEs. Unfortunately I didn't learn about them until I was 52 (not to mention being gaslit by a society that doesn't understand me,) so I suffered tremendously for most of my life with lights being too bright, sounds being too loud, etc., etc. Now aware, I'm finally able to mitigate my symptoms. What a difference!
Thanks for shining a light on giftedness. It's so desperately needed. My husband teaches psychology at a local university, and after reading "Misdiagnosis and Dual Diagnoses of Gifted Children and Adults" by James Webb et al., I gave him a copy and stressed that he needed to let the other psych profs know about it, that it was vital that the students learn at LEAST this, if not much more.

      Hi there:
Thank you for telling me about this, and I'm so sorry you were gaslit by society. I think most gifted people have been gaslit at some point in their lives, which is doleful :-(. I've suffered a lot, too, but now, I'm able to shut a lot of things out. It took years of practice, though.
You're welcome. This summer, I doubted whether I wanted to continue shining a light on giftedness, but I decided to go on.
Finally, it's great you recommended your husband that book. I want to read it, too.

@@EdvinPalmer That the book should be mandatory reading for anyone going into the medical/psych professions. Studies show that gifted people are the least likely people in the world to have their needs met, mostly because so very few people know about it, let alone understand it.
In that vein, shining the light on the subject is absolutely crucial. I'm currently trying to find my own way to do the same.
You are an inspiration, and I commend you!

@@zqxzqxzqx1 You're right about everything you write. And, thank you so much for appreciating what I do. My intention is to help people--both the gifted and the non-gifted; so we can understand ourselves better and the non-gifted can understand us gifted better--so, I'm thrilled you feel I'm doing it. I appreciate you and your support a lot.
