- Hey everyone! I can’t even believe I have to make this video. I am passionate about biochemistry, microbiology and quality control. I was a fan of Jaclyn but in recent events I’m shocked by her response. This is a public health issue! I will be sending my lipsticks for microbial testing and will share the results in part 2. Hey #sciencebabes ! A lot of you are asking when Part 2 is coming... so here's an update! I had to wait to receive some unopened packages from customers who didn't open the mailer from JH Cosmetics. The samples are now all at the lab undergoing microbial testing for 6 pathogens, yeast and mould. I hope to have have results early next week, but it could take up to next Friday. I will post the report as soon as I have it! Stay tuned.

Is there any possibility that a production code is on the product rather than a batch code like Jaclyn claimed? Does a production code exist? And if it does, what's the difference between it and a batch code.

Thank you! Chem student here and the white glove excuse killed me. That’s so not a thing lol. Cotton gloves would allow sweat to transfer from the worker to the lipstick no problem. There’s no lab in the US that would allow you to use them in production. I’m so glad you are having them tested.

I'm a student of chemistry too (specifically Industrial Chemistry) and I 100% agree with you,no lab will use that type of glove lol,it's just insane,why would they use that type of glove? It doesn't make sense

Also, I am a chef and it is a well known fact that ruber gloves are used in chocolate work to avoid finger prints. Theres no way on earth finger prints are more visible on a metal than chocolate!

Several people said they smell like cover girl lipsticks that are about to expire. I know that smell! Ugh.
Well, vanilla is one of the most expensive spices out there so its not really uncommon for people to use fake vanilla scent in things like these. If they used the real scent it’d be a really really expensive product.

FDA doesn't regulate makeup since it's not a food or drug.
The FDA has to receive enough complaints from a products in order to address it and launch an investigation. Larger organizations don't work as fast as we'd like them to but it's not like they ignore complaints. It's up to affected consumers to bring it up.
@@belladonna5904 According to their website you can report cosmetic products. It encompasses a lot of things including makeup.
Belladonna the FDA regulates a lot more than just food and Drugs. They regulate cosmetics but it takes time to recall a product. The only thing they don’t regulate is alcohol and vitamins.

She's the real deal. As a chemical engineer who was responsible for quality checks, I can attest to the fact that she is very thorough and clear about how she wants these products to be tested. She pointed out the problems that may arise in Mass production perfectly! We need these kind of videos from cosmetic manufactures actually.. On their own.. Explaining each and every stuff!

I am also immunocompromised. I was so upset when she did her video and lied and did not say that a recall was coming. She does not seem to care about the concern to public health. I am a makeup lover, and I had thought about ordering them before this all hit. I keep imagining if I had and if someone out there is immunocompromised and does not know what is going on.

Girl you are speaking my language!! I work in a lip balm factory and when I watched her explanation video I just cringed about how many facts she just has all wrong. The batch code is really the thing that bothers me the most... every shade should have its own batch code. No reason to have the same one for ALL shades!?

Lets all also keep in mind that even if these ‘fuzzies’ aren’t mold (and lets hope they aren’t) , they are still by definition a contaminant!! Anything in the product that is not in the ingredient list is a contaminant.
I’m still shocked these haven’t been recalled. I realise that might very well cause Jaclyn to lose considerable amounts of money, but it’s the right thing to do at this point.
She should have insurance which covers the cost behind recalls. There's absolutely zero excuse.

They would have to recall all the products since they all have one batch code

Honestly, maybe something happened during the grinding stage. Like the grinders were not cleaned properly and they didn’t grind the lipsticks enough so things were separating and not fully mixed. Idk this whole line was just a flop

I'm considering taking a master's degree in genetics or in biochemistry. I like all that involves DNA test and that stuff but I also like the part of testing different types of things, like food or even cosmetics

But if her findings are true and the lab results do support Kenna then technically Jaclyn will face even more loss
Alice Fang if the lab results back her findings then JH doesn’t legally have a case. The only thing she could sue for is defamation which doesn’t stick if the information given is actually true.
So far all she has said is that the batch number being the same is wrong as they are clearly two different shades and so would have to be from two different batches, that the labs would never use cotton gloves or towels anywhere in the production side of the cosmetics factory as they shed fibres and would contaminate any product or surface they came into contact with (plus if you think about it logically how much more expensive would it be to kit your staff out in cotton gloves than latext or nerite (or other latex free) gloves?) and that she has visually seen contaminants on her own lipstick that she purchased. None of that is inaccurate or libellous in any way.
Courts hire woman like her to use facts to protect the person JH could sue or even to protect JH if not
It’s impossible for Jaclyn to get her in trouble for this considering she isn’t attacking Jaclyn’s name she is only stating her observations, and she said that she’s going to have them tested before she says anything else about them. She states that she loves Jaclyn and she uses her other products daily but she needs to own up to whatever is going on with her faulty product. If Jaclyn even tried any judge would laugh at her, especially considering the lipstick is noticeably contaminated right after the opening of the product🤷🏻♀️.
Its not illegal for her to do what shes doing as a consumer she has a right o know whats in it and its not a peraonal attack or defamation of Jaclyn Hill its a break down of whats in her products.

I’m immunocompromised and even I didn’t think how bad that manky lippy could be. I think to stay away from people who have been sick or had colds (although with a four year old nephew and a sister who works in a school there’s very little I don’t catch lol) but it never crossed my mind to watch my cosmetics!

What blows my mind is why she chose the manufacturer she ultimately went with. Because they’re obviously shitty. And it’s not like she doesn’t have access to a better one. That was almost definitely intentional.
She would have had to recall EVERYTHING and lost every bit of money she put into it. Not that she won't in the future. No one is going to buy makeup from with her name and/or face on it now. That's her motive. The makeup industry is so huge now people can find any of these nudes and not worry. Oh wow, I wonder if she tried to sell this in stores and got rejected or didn't even go that far because she knew something was wrong. If they were in stores then the store probably would have recalled it.

I've seen other youtubers' test and the labels were actually missing from some tubes. I think the lipsticks were returns from some other brand.

I used to be a huge jaclyn fan. The red head girl that wanted to make TH-cam videos. I didnt know anyone that loved makeup like I did at the time. I was so shy I'd get red and embarrassed at mac or sephora if I was asked if I wanted help or demonstrations. Hiding in my room practicing makeup I discovered Jacyln. I feel jaclyn had so much potential. She just doesnt feel the need to take responsibility and put in the same amount of effort. Jmho.
I'm not really surprised by the issues with the lipsticks. I stopped watching jaclyn when I felt she hated making TH-cam videos. She lost her passion. Eventually she began to social climb and she threw each person under the bus after a new "friend" with a more lucrative collab would show up. We think of manny mua as a social climber but imo jaclyn is the most successful social climber in TH-cam beauty community.

erica p I have a lot of advice lol but the main one is if you don’t understand something, don’t be afraid to ask questions. Whether it’s in class, after class, office hours, tutoring center, even TH-cam videos anything to help you understand the material better. I took this for granted my first years and didn’t get into the habit of asking questions till my last year and it made a HUGE difference.-Also, don’t be afraid to sit next to a stranger in class. Don’t be afraid to make friends with that stranger. It helps a lot if you have the number of someone in class. Stay away from people that skip class often or leave early, stay away from the “too cool to study on time” people. Which brings me to another point, try to study after class whatever you went over in class. Professors will tell you that you need to study double the hours of what the class time is (so if class is 2 hours then you should be studying 4 hours for it) but don’t let that discourage you, aslongest you study any little bit after class, just so you know you understood the material. This may seem like all negative vibe advice but like I said I have a lot of advice but I feel like this should be focused on so you can smooth sail through the academic parts of the college experience :) Sorry for the long response lol

GIRL THANK YOU! My father is a chemical compounder at a major cosmetics manufacturing plant in Ontario that makes products for huge brands like Estée Lauder every single day. Through him I know a lot about the process and safety requirements of making cosmetics and before this I didn’t even know who Jaclyn was, but now I’m livid that she’s selling such dangerous products and getting away with it! Expose her ass!
Edit: also, holy shit, the batch numbers! That’s fucking illegal and insane! No cosmetics especially of a different shade should have the same batch #, oh my god...

My jaw dropped when she said she had earned a degree in biochemistry. It was so unexpected given how pretty she is. I KNOW that beauty and brains are not mutually exclusive but realistically, it’s not something you see abundantly on an everyday basis (probably because each trait is above the norm and then to combine it would inevitably be more rare).
C V i know manyyy smart women who are extremely beautiful including people who are in really intelligent fields of work. Make more videos like this about cosmetics and skincare (KYLIE SKIN) their ingriedents, and sending them to the lab for a contamination testing. Because we as customers cannot do that.

Micaiah Peele I know people get cold sores all the time and people were posting about what looks to be a blister on the inner corner of the lip. I had gotten one on my left side a day or 2 after use. I kissed my 1 YO daughter on the cheek with this lipstick on and she got a rash. I didn’t put 2 and 2 together till this all started coming out. Smh I’ve never heard of this before in my life!

Kenna I know I didn’t post anything on IG for almost a week because I didn’t want backlash over ‘a lipstick’ but I wanted people to know that it wasn’t JUST youtubers or celebrities finding fault in the product. In regards to the sore/blister whatever it is. I thought nothing of it until I saw a video with people coming forward about it..come on who would go around bragging about something like that if it wasn’t legit?
A lot of people who posted about the rashes and bumps they're getting from these lipsticks are either deleting their posts or their actual profiles. Idk if it's the stans harassing them or jaclyn is threatening them with suing them. It sucks that she doesn't care about the safety of her customers. I hope this is what sheds light into all her lies and we finally get answers.
Can you also do a test on the 99 cent Wet n Wild lipsticks? My theory is that if nothing is found in a cheap lipstick vs. the $18 Jaclyn lipstick that there would be obvious quality control issues

As an immunocompromised person, I am very grateful that you are doing this video and the follow up. For a healthy person there might not be much of an issue with sloppy manufacturing of makeup but for me and the millions like me, it can be a life threatening issue. Thank you! MintCupcake I mean even if she pays off scientists and she tries to “save” her company she’s already lost thousands of customers. There are people who have actual chunks of metal in their lipsticks. Once that trust is broken people aren’t going to go back, no matter what test results come out. Sure she’ll have extreme fans that will defend her to their dying breath, but they make up a minority of her consumers. Whether it turns out to be mold or not won’t be relevant to many customers. If they feel like they’ve been scammed or that JH is unprofessional they’ll stop buying from her. This isn’t a guarantee but it’s definitely a possibility.

LOL I laughed at that too just because it sounds funny but then again, anything vanilla scented is technically fake vanilla lol. Fun fact, imitation vanilla flavoring and scents can sometimes contain a sticky goo that's secreted from a beaver's butt. It's called castoreum, and The FDA has listed castoreum as a “generally regarded as safe” additive. It's usually listed as "natural flavoring" on an ingredients list and manufacturers have been using it extensively in perfumes and foods for at least 80 years. Yum lol.
Working in cosmetics retail for MANY years, if there was an issue with a product, I always had to give the batch number that was printed on the box or product so the company can figure out what batch is contaminated and they can do a recall. WTF! This is nuts.
Same with tattoos. The last artist I had wrapped each needle with its batch number and when I asked, she said it was so that they could refer back to the specific batch should I come back with any issues and see if and where it came from if it was from the shop or some other way.
One of the papers JH shows in her video for that girl had a batch number listed. It different from this fake batch number. It did not have a production code listed. The batch number was 135H for the lipstick That Girl.
