I love the weapons, the sniper is awesome! I just really wish they gave us an option for burst mode and option for single fire. But the sniper is pretty awesome though.
I'm not a fan of the burst fire on the rifle, personally. I wish it had the option to switch to single fire. It's fine against targets that aren't moving, but on laterally moving targets, many of your shots tend to completely whiff unless you somehow have perfect accuracy while dragging the gun (very unlikely for most people I'd imagine). And considering you're only getting 3 opportunities per magazine to hit your shots, that ends up being a lot of wasted ammo. The new armor set passives are interesting. They're a good addition for players like myself where I always play with random groups. I never know exactly what I'm working with, so knowing that I won't instantly die to the first person recklessly firing a flamethrower or arc thrower in my general direction is pretty nice.
the issue with the new armor is that 50% damage reduction isnt shit. arc weapons still 1 shot you. tesla towers still 1 shot you. fire and gas still does a ton of damage. cosmetically, i like it, but its objectively bad.
@@quantum5661 I've gotten hit by the Tesla Towers, Harvesters' Arc attack, and Arc throwers and survived. Maybe if you're already low health they'll kill you, but neither one can one-shot you if you're full health.
Fundamentally I agree but also I disagree. It’s a sniper so it’s supposed to have its niche. We have enough weapons in game that are good all-round. We need our niches

I think it's cool, but I don't really see a use case for the sniper. It doesn't kill devastators in 1 shot while counter sniper can 1-tap the heads. It kills overseers slower than purifier, it just doesn't seem to hit as hard as I wouild like a sniper to. I'm Mostly I'm just excietd we have a sniper tab now because it means we will get more at some point. Hopefully we get one more focused on piercing without the 3 round burst. I want a sniper to be accurate and powerful, and this one doesn't quite seem to hit either.
Add to that list of issues the burst itself. Long range shooting against a moving target? Don't forget to keep leading after your first bullet came out, otherwise the rest of the burst will miss.
Damage is nice, Ergo is nice. The issue is it flinches the enemies hard, so you miss 1 or 2 of your burst, and hit a separate limb or hit box. On such a limited set of ammo? It either needs 12 mags, or it needs a single fire mode. 2/3 of your mag to drop a Dev in the chest, or any of the medium Illuminate? It's rough. Either make it burst down medium enemies in 1 burst, or give it single shot, so we can actually precision shot the devastators weak points, and mob properly. " As it stands, it COOKS tanks and hulk heat sinks.
It's much better against the bots than the other factions. Gun can 2 tap most bots and it's long range you can snipe them from quite a long distance since the scope is pretty good.
I love killing one enemy and then having to reload, so much fun! 😐 I was excited for this gun, it looks sweet, but let’s be real it’s poop. If you wanna two tap every bot the purifier already does that with 5x the ammo and a huge splash radius. Hell I’d rather bring the DCS and have to aim for headshots than spend half the match reloading and searching for ammo because my *charged plasma sniper* can’t kill a single medium chaff enemy without expending 2/3 of my mag.
@@Goldilocks7O7 They should've kept the heavy armor pen the gun originally had in KIllzone Mercenary if it is based on the gun from that game. The heavy armor pen was literally what set it apart from other rifles as well as having explosive rounds.
I do believe this is a good start for the implementation of actual classed snipers. It’s decent and is fun to use although it does have its faults, and all for free too
Aint gonna lie. The bad ammo economy, reload simulator feel of the game is killing my enjoyment. On top of the fact, it feels like you have to press reload 1000 times to get it to work. I dont understand the course they're taking starving us of ammo.
They’re afraid to give us decent ammo economy because they’re worried we’d be more powerful, meanwhile they’ll release the orbital napalm barrage which kills everything and literally plays the game for you.
Guns are worth their damage, ammo economy, and skill level required to use them. If youre picking fights without the ammo needed youre going to struggle so its wise to choose your battles. Also the resupply is the way, and is supposed to keep your team together and ready to go, use it.

Its having a bit of an identity crisis. I'm personally not playing to be sneaking around. Its just my opinion on how I like to play. I'm aware of the game mechanics and necessary strategy to consistently beat level 10 on each faction but its not peak fun for me.

Supply pack is supposed to be a support stratagem to help your teammates with powerful support weapons, or help them out of sticky situations. NOT so you can selfishly hog it all in order to make your primary (whose sole purpose is usually for mobbing) even functional enough to do its intended job in the first place. If you need to waste an entire stratagem (and backpack) slot to make your primary functional, the gun is broken and not working properly. TL;DR: This gun is hot garbage until they add at least two more shots per reload, and you can’t convince me otherwise.
I legitimately played diff 9 illuminate missions with siege ready passive armor and no supply pack and I never ran out of ammo during my ops with the sniper.

Illuminates currently are the easiest faction we have available, it’s not hard. That doesn’t mean primaries should be weak or severely limited in their usage/ammo. This weapon is flawed right now and is fixable with just a couple more shots per mag. Or is that a bad idea to you?

@@SpooflsYeah actually no. That 350 damage is if all 3 shots hit. We found this out seeing as this weapon is plasma base meaning the projectile does 100 damage and the plasma does 250 meaning 1 burst should kill an illuminate in 1 burst to the body but it doesn't it requires 2 which would only make sense if all the bolts werent dealing 350 seeing as explosive goes through their armor and the squid overseera have 600 health you should be dealing 750 damage in just explosive.
@@Xeceo its not an issue for accel rifle either, since it’s a burst and it still has a decent blast radius. yeah purifier’s radius is bigger, but you can still clear stuff very well with it. Between purifier and rifle, purifier is considerably better, but not just it’s explosive radius makes it better
I feel like I'm in the minority here, but I don't think that this thing needs better ammo capacity. It needs more damage. Like, right now, there's basically nothing this thing can do that a charged Purifier *can't*. Add more ammo to it and it becomes (at BEST) a sidegrade. Add more damage to it (so that it can one-shot overseers, devastators, gunships...) and it now has a unique and powerful niche -- while still keeping the unusual downside of essentially having a 4 shot magazine.
More damage does make the most sense. 18 shots would = 3 overseer kills but increasing dmg could make it so the current 9 shots = 3 overseer kills aswell. Good point
I have TWO grievances with this 'sniper rifle' One: and I've been on this hill since I've ever SEEN a 'burst sniper' in borderland and killzone2 If the xm-22 was deemed too mechanically complex to mass manufacture and maintain (a rifle that used the kinetic force of the first shot to absorb and counterbalance the next two at a supposed 1800rpm) and every SINGLE Dahl burst sniper CANT STAY ON TARGET 👀...then this one had no place to even fight to be in. Two: PLASMA ACCELERATOR 🙄 I can out distance the gun with any of the marksman rifles, automatic rifles or energy rifles. Max distance 180m arcs out at 190m and ineffective at 200m unless you are dumping shots down on top of enemies as a piece of artillery. The poor thing has no place. If it was a burst kinetic, or even a railgun adjacent primary it would be competing with it's actual weapon class. Might be free ninety nine, but it's a rescue from peta

The Helldivers team cannnot change how the weapon functions or its mag size, because then it won't be the same weapon from Killzone. The damage can be increased though - It feels like this weapon is doing 350 damage per burst instead of per shot.
this sniper rifle needs at least +8 mags easly if not more or single fire mode and its extremely unefficient cuz you can just go purifire still two shot flying guys and all those mid enemies and have 15 shots in mag + 6-8 mags and you can clear groups of enemies cuz explosion radius is so much bigger
It's really a testament to how well designed the illuminate are when I can visibly see you having to use every skill you have to barely be able to full clear while having run out of reinforcements. AND YOU STILL DONT RAGE

nah, light pen weapons are so bad, especially when they have low durable damage as well. The game is definitely a reload simulator because weapons generally deal way too low damage. Like, try using the medium pen assault rifles against Alpha Commanders, and you're probably using like half a magazine just to pop their heads, not to mention then having to deal with their spawns.
Snipers don't have a place in a horde shooter. The average engagement distance is 10-20m, 50m max. If it was up to me, change to DMR, keep the burst and up the mag to 6 burst with 10 mags. Adding select fire would also be great
I don't think so. Sniper actually has a place in this game, at least against automatons and illuminates. You just have to play it right. This is coop game, so you don't have to be effective against all types of enemies. Just focus on medium enemies and keep distance. I play as a sniper quite often and like it.

Shields (except for outpost landed ufo ship shields) take full explosive damage contrary to popular belief. Why UFOs shields don't take explosive damage is possibly a bug
10:42 I wouldn’t be surprised if they removed that intentionally. I had multiple missions soft lock because an enemy was stuck below the terrain near the flag.
500kg and precision strike can both 1 tap the ships, even with a shield. The commando is a great rocket launcher for illuminate, because you can break walker shields and destroy them easily, and destroy ships easily just shooting into the door. First shot breaks shield, second blows ship
Had some flag mission bug out with the clear mechanic due to enemies being underground and then you cant continue. Would a $20 Warbond be a better price for two pages of collab? Maybe. I dunno

Hopefully this is the beginning of them adding sniper rifles to our primary weapon slot, I've been itching to try a true sniper role for bots that doesn't require a stradagem slot to use, plus with the new wasp launcher you could be the ultimate long range member of your team, i can't wait to see what other cross overs they come up with next, im sitting here trying to think of one that would go well with helldivers, kill zone was almost too perfect, i imagine a star trip troopers collaboration would be hilarious 😂
Overseers are 2 charged shots with the purifier which also flinch them, and you dont even have to hit them directly. This sniper needs 1 more shot in the mag I feel.
This gun blows. It's not even remotly a sniper, it's a California compliant M16. Needs a 30 round mag and a reclassification as a Marksman rifle or put it in the energy section.
This one seems quicker at dealing with overseers but I think I still am gonna stick with dominator. Aiming is hard with a controller already so I’ve been dodging every single weapon that performs better with a scope on. I think that weapon has more potential with bots.
My biggest gripe about it is that it has so little ammo and the burst shot does not help it. I end half my missions using it with 50% accuracy because most enemies die in 2-4 shots and I need 3-6 to kill small or medium enemies

I think it needs a small buff to the ammo capacity in the mag. The mag count I think would be fine with a couple more bursts per reload. -This would allow it to break shields before reload and kill more than one medium chaff per mag. -The animation for the mag discharging per burst could be altered to drain an equivalent portion of each cylinder(instead of one whole cylinder) preventing the need to change the actual model.
That would remove the definition of a sniper by having so over 10 bullets maybe, so I think a good think is maybe make it 2 burst shots, higher accuracy with low drop off as it stands, it classifies as a sniper
@nagatodan The mag capacity isn't what makes it a sniper. And even if you wanted to apply that logic, you currently only have 3 cycles of the trigger due to the burst. Giving it a 15 capacity mag would still only total 5 cycles of the trigger which is a reasonable number for a sniper. "BUT" it's already uncharacteristic of a typical sniper, because it's a burst. It's relying on all 3 rounds to hit on a singular target.
There are a vast variety of Sniper/precision rifles of different sizes, mag capacity, bullet type and caliber, etc. The overwhelming majority are single shot, either bolt action or semi-auto. Sci-fi/video games do burst snipers because it's "cool". The Mass Effect game also has a burst sniper, for example.

swap out supply backpack for stalwart and own the hordes and keep your accelerator sniper for the overseers. bring other red/green stratagems to own the harvesters.
The real complaint? The sniper helmet is from Killzone 3 but the sniper is nabbed fron Mercenary Nah that's just me being petty, makes sense they'd want a more exciting future-y plasma rifle, I just loved the vc-32 in 3 and wish that was the sniper we got
reading these comments i am fascinated by how much the player base has shifted since launch from "who cares if it's good, just use what's fun" to "the only weapons that are fun to use are weapons that are good"
I'm running into an odd inconsistency with the sniper. As host of the lobby most often with my friend group, host doesn't get the impact damage that guest divers do. Landing the shots on the same places on the same types of enemies isn't resulting in kills or the same remaining HP. (Tested across bugs, bots and squids with the accelerator and counter sniper for finishing off wounded targets created by the accelrator.)
Well In original game each hit from this burst sniper was like mini grenade explosion. (Spread was higher tho) Too bad Arrowhead can't give us this much fun.
I feel like maybe if it has a single fire mode too for slightly less dmg too Also I've noticed a lot less weapons on the map , on calypso I liked dropping in with no weapons. I believe the ships are explosive immune so the sniper is awful for that. But good at the harvester shields at least

We found this out seeing as this weapon is plasma base meaning the projectile does 100 damage and the plasma does 250 meaning 1 burst should kill an illuminate in 1 burst to the body but it doesn't it requires 2 which would only make sense if all the bolts werent dealing 350 seeing as explosive goes through their armor and the squid overseera have 600 health you should be dealing 750 damage in just explosive.
@@Xeceo its not an issue for accel rifle either, since it’s a burst and it still has a decent blast radius. yeah purifier’s radius is bigger, but you can still clear stuff very well with it. Between purifier and rifle, purifier is considerably better, but not just it’s explosive radius makes it better

I feel like I'm in the minority here, but I don't think that this thing needs better ammo capacity. It needs more damage.
Like, right now, there's basically nothing this thing can do that a charged Purifier *can't*. Add more ammo to it and it becomes (at BEST) a sidegrade. Add more damage to it (so that it can one-shot overseers, devastators, gunships...) and it now has a unique and powerful niche -- while still keeping the unusual downside of essentially having a 4 shot magazine.
More damage does make the most sense. 18 shots would = 3 overseer kills but increasing dmg could make it so the current 9 shots = 3 overseer kills aswell. Good point

I have TWO grievances with this 'sniper rifle'
One: and I've been on this hill since I've ever SEEN a 'burst sniper' in borderland and killzone2
If the xm-22 was deemed too mechanically complex to mass manufacture and maintain (a rifle that used the kinetic force of the first shot to absorb and counterbalance the next two at a supposed 1800rpm) and every SINGLE Dahl burst sniper CANT STAY ON TARGET 👀...then this one had no place to even fight to be in.
Two: PLASMA ACCELERATOR 🙄 I can out distance the gun with any of the marksman rifles, automatic rifles or energy rifles. Max distance 180m arcs out at 190m and ineffective at 200m unless you are dumping shots down on top of enemies as a piece of artillery.
The poor thing has no place. If it was a burst kinetic, or even a railgun adjacent primary it would be competing with it's actual weapon class.

@@paparoach3071 Yeah, the ammo economy is terrible, but then I remembered that this weapon is a direct clone from Killzone. The Helldivers team cannnot change how the weapon functions or its mag size, because then it won't be the same weapon from Killzone.
The damage can be increased though - It feels like this weapon is doing 350 damage per burst instead of per shot.
In original game each shot was like mini grenade tbh😂

Specifically the illuminate flags don't need you to kill all the nearby enemies, bug and bot flag missions still need you to clear the area
this sniper rifle needs at least +8 mags easly if not more or single fire mode
and its extremely unefficient cuz you can just go purifire still two shot flying guys and all those mid enemies and have 15 shots in mag + 6-8 mags and you can clear groups of enemies cuz explosion radius is so much bigger
It's really a testament to how well designed the illuminate are when I can visibly see you having to use every skill you have to barely be able to full clear while having run out of reinforcements. AND YOU STILL DONT RAGE

Unlike the new Sniper Rifle, DCS requires precision aiming.
The kind of thing you expect a Sniper Rifle to require.
I would use this with the stalwart or medium machine gun, anti tank emplacement, stun spear, and ether supply pack jump pack or some form of shield.

Every gun is good. The bad thing is ammo cap per mag. This game is reloading simulator since the launch, and AH keeps it that way.
nah, light pen weapons are so bad, especially when they have low durable damage as well.
The game is definitely a reload simulator because weapons generally deal way too low damage.
Like, try using the medium pen assault rifles against Alpha Commanders, and you're probably using like half a magazine just to pop their heads, not to mention then having to deal with their spawns.

Snipers don't have a place in a horde shooter. The average engagement distance is 10-20m, 50m max.
If it was up to me, change to DMR, keep the burst and up the mag to 6 burst with 10 mags. Adding select fire would also be great
I don't think so. Sniper actually has a place in this game, at least against automatons and illuminates. You just have to play it right. This is coop game, so you don't have to be effective against all types of enemies. Just focus on medium enemies and keep distance. I play as a sniper quite often and like it.

No medium armor with the siege ready booster is a crime.
For real, light gets shredded way too fast and heavy armor is just a joke. Really hope a siege ready medium comes out in the future.

Ive heard that you can one burst to the flyer guys from the illuminates head but you have to land all 3 of the burst in the head
They will flinch after the first shot, and the head will move.

Shields are taken down easily with machine guns.
Plasma type weapons are not effective against Shields.
Shields (except for outpost landed ufo ship shields) take full explosive damage contrary to popular belief.
Why UFOs shields don't take explosive damage is possibly a bug

Gas grenades CAN break the ships, but the door hitbox can be wonky for non-impact grenades, so beware.
The killzone 2 stuff are still 20 dollars. this was gonna be the second half of total 40 dollars.
Variable burst would be my idea for the sniper. Maybe a 4 round burst would do the trick with the overseers.
500kg and precision strike can both 1 tap the ships, even with a shield.
The commando is a great rocket launcher for illuminate, because you can break walker shields and destroy them easily, and destroy ships easily just shooting into the door. First shot breaks shield, second blows ship
Had some flag mission bug out with the clear mechanic due to enemies being underground and then you cant continue.

Hopefully this is the beginning of them adding sniper rifles to our primary weapon slot, I've been itching to try a true sniper role for bots that doesn't require a stradagem slot to use, plus with the new wasp launcher you could be the ultimate long range member of your team, i can't wait to see what other cross overs they come up with next, im sitting here trying to think of one that would go well with helldivers, kill zone was almost too perfect, i imagine a star trip troopers collaboration would be hilarious 😂

Overseers are 2 charged shots with the purifier which also flinch them, and you dont even have to hit them directly. This sniper needs 1 more shot in the mag I feel.

This gun blows. It's not even remotly a sniper, it's a California compliant M16. Needs a 30 round mag and a reclassification as a Marksman rifle or put it in the energy section.
dominator is better
This one seems quicker at dealing with overseers but I think I still am gonna stick with dominator. Aiming is hard with a controller already so I’ve been dodging every single weapon that performs better with a scope on. I think that weapon has more potential with bots.
My biggest gripe about it is that it has so little ammo and the burst shot does not help it. I end half my missions using it with 50% accuracy because most enemies die in 2-4 shots and I need 3-6 to kill small or medium enemies

I think it needs a small buff to the ammo capacity in the mag. The mag count I think would be fine with a couple more bursts per reload.
-This would allow it to break shields before reload and kill more than one medium chaff per mag.
-The animation for the mag discharging per burst could be altered to drain an equivalent portion of each cylinder(instead of one whole cylinder) preventing the need to change the actual model.
Side note: I don't think overseers are confused by gas but do seem to take damage
That would remove the definition of a sniper by having so over 10 bullets maybe, so I think a good think is maybe make it 2 burst shots, higher accuracy with low drop off as it stands, it classifies as a sniper
@nagatodan The mag capacity isn't what makes it a sniper. And even if you wanted to apply that logic, you currently only have 3 cycles of the trigger due to the burst. Giving it a 15 capacity mag would still only total 5 cycles of the trigger which is a reasonable number for a sniper.
"BUT" it's already uncharacteristic of a typical sniper, because it's a burst. It's relying on all 3 rounds to hit on a singular target.
There are a vast variety of Sniper/precision rifles of different sizes, mag capacity, bullet type and caliber, etc. The overwhelming majority are single shot, either bolt action or semi-auto. Sci-fi/video games do burst snipers because it's "cool". The Mass Effect game also has a burst sniper, for example.

We need more basic secondary options. I love the new sniper but i hate that i can only use stalwart or machine gun as a secondary option.
Stalwart used to be a primary in the first game
swap out supply backpack for stalwart and own the hordes and keep your accelerator sniper for the overseers. bring other red/green stratagems to own the harvesters.

I'm running into an odd inconsistency with the sniper. As host of the lobby most often with my friend group, host doesn't get the impact damage that guest divers do. Landing the shots on the same places on the same types of enemies isn't resulting in kills or the same remaining HP. (Tested across bugs, bots and squids with the accelerator and counter sniper for finishing off wounded targets created by the accelrator.)

Also I've noticed a lot less weapons on the map , on calypso I liked dropping in with no weapons. I believe the ships are explosive immune so the sniper is awful for that. But good at the harvester shields at least
