It’s called the access media for a reason. Doesn’t surprise me that Disney would try to recreate that “incentive” amongst gaming journos
"Journos"....jfc.
Disney will also going after other media like Anime, they had that authority to control what people should consume and they want you to consume whatever they gave to you.
@@aoihitori hahahahahahahahahahaha
@@fullmetalb5241 dude lose his mind.
not only you have less and less freedoms offline, but online too.
"we're sorry... (That someone noticed the clause)"😢😢
They're not sorry and have no reason to be. This type of childish gamer outrage is what they wanted to prevent, but here it is anyway, not really something to be sorry for they did their best to prevent it.
Companies don’t need to pay you for you to give them good reviews, they’ll just take away access if you say anything negative
And that why u don't pre-order
That sounds like it makes too much sense
This is an alpha product that has more development left
@@mattmaas5790 I was just speaking generally not specifically about marvel rivals
@@CrunchyBrownie5 I was speaking about your mom
Who ever signs this is a bafoon. But i blind-clicked so many ingame EULAs that i'm sure i already gave away something of mine that i'm still not aware of.
I signed away my first born on high on life 🤷♀️🤦♂️.
It's not bad or weird at all considering it's an alpha product halfway through development you otherwise wouldn't have an opportunity to help them improve
buffoon
South Park iCentipad
EA and Ubisoft vigorously taking notes
Why Ubisoft? They make bad games now but they are always transparent with review codes and let everyone be honest about criticism. Sounds like you are just hating to hate
I would absolutely be okay censoring reviews of any alpha product on a contract basis, because they're still in development.
The word "malicious comparisons" is out right dystopia.
It's an alpha product that still has a lot of development left. Yall r nuts
You know it is bad if the publishers forbid anyone to criticize it. Ofcourse only Disney had the power to do this.
As an unwise man once said, *_"Don't ask questions, just consume product and then get excited for next product"_*
The game is really good though
I don't blame you for thinking this, but the game is super fun.
Rah Disney is the devil sure but isn’t this just licensed from Disney but actually made by someone else ?
The game is really good, and you shouldn't be childish to hate it just because they had a normal alpha product contract
I just found it really quaint how many content creators that cover blizzard games especially hopped on this like wolves to fresh meat slathered in bbq sauce. The self awareness on display is rich.
That said, it’s not surprising Marvel would piss themselves like this. Not a single one of their games have been safe from their backward headedness
Its an alpha product still in development. This is completely normal. You reactionaries are being brainwashed and you're not even children.
A lot of people on Twitter are praising it tho
We need legislation to make it illegal to have review embargos up to the day of release. They need to end at least a week from the release date. Among other things.
No they don’t. It’s a private company’s right on who has access to who can talk about a game before it comes out. You don’t have to buy a game day 1. Give it a few days for reviews to come out and then choose to buy a game. I fully support review embargos as a right
@@TheCephalon they actually don't have the right to use embargos to deceive customers by suppressing information about the state of the game prior to release while paying people to lie about it. That's literally illegal. Why do you think class action lawsuits happen?
@@TheCephalon Giving access is different than a review embargo. Don't confuse the two mate. You're arguing for access. They're talking about embargos. Apples and oranges.
Fukcing children being brainwashed into financial terrorists online all the time
@ericm5315 and both are completely fine for in development alpha products
We should just make it a habit to copy paste the TOS, EULAs and NDAs we sign/accept into ChatGPT and tell it to find points of contractual overreach before we sign/accept them.
No one whose mature and has integrity cares because this an alpha product in development. Plenty of ppl read it and thought it's ok becaude it's in alpha
Thats genius
Most people wouldn't have a problem with these stipulations for an alpha product that is still in development.
The Yamiks critically reviewed Elite Dangerous countless times and then when it was time for space legs they denied him a review copy. This totally happens
If the contracts illegal, then they can't enforce it. Saying you can't give it a negative review..is illegal.
that's why I thought, it works like that in other countries I know, even if you sign something illegal it doesn't bond you, makes sense it is the same in the USA
@@maus6199 If you sign a contract saying you can do what you want, maim kill steal etc.......those are illegal activities......so the contract is null and void etc
In the usa, corporations can enforce what ever they want in their contract. If you sue them, they will wait you out until you go into bankruptcy
One of the most USA things ive heard
Is it illegal? I don't think it is. Certainly scummy, but non-disparagement clauses aren't uncommon.
But even if it is illegal and therefore unenforceable, you'd need to pay thousands of dollars in legal fees to get a judge to confirm that.
If this mid game becomes successful, I’ve lost all hope in humanity.
I recall something similar with Star Wars: Hunters, which was the same type of game also distributed by Disney. Seems like it's a Disney issue
this video is NOT sponsored by RAID SHADOW LEGENDS
Big props to Luke for just being Luke at the end of the day lol😂
I just want to tell you how often I walk around during my life and sing to myself: "Daaah-Daaah-Duuuh-Duuuh He TOOK MY THING!" "Daaah-Daaah-Duuuh-Duuuh RED FLAG RED FLAG!"
IT'S A CURSE I TELL YOU!! LOL! The outro for your channel is ridiculously captivating! And catchy! DAMN YOU LUKE STEPHENS! Why do u have to be so likeable?!
The comparison one is especially funny given how similar it is to overwatch. Some of those maps could be in overwatch and i wouldn't bat an eye. And some of those characters were straight clones (magneto and sigma) lol. Great video
Not anymore. In 5v5 overwatch 2 all new maps have to be simple corridors with tall buildings.
This is blatant too. Legitimately looks like they made the game by ripping it straight from overwatch. Itself gonna be hilarious when it comes out and no one plays it... again
@Jaguar21010 I mean this looks nothing like Overwatch anymore. Ow2 is 5v5 and has maps with single lanes.lane. it's garbage.
This whole thing might as well say, "If you want a code, then you agree that you are now part of our marketing team." I have been playing games long enough to know that it is a bad sign when a company is that concerned about anything negative.
Now is the time to welcome that feedback. The game is still in progress, and you want to get the chance to make changes before the wider market gets it and decides it isn't good.
They are not sorry, that it happened, they are sorry it came out and they didn't put an NDA on the contract.
What’s crazy is from what I played it isn’t that bad of a game if anything the criticisms are needed
Who would be writing up the agreement?
This sounds more like something Netease would do rather than Marvel or Disney. Least of all because the latter two would know you can't enforce that.
I would also assume it’s a Netease thing since I haven’t heard this about any other Marvel games
Its a shame because the game is genuinely good theres no reason to do this
It's an alpha product in development, this is completely normal and smart for in development products.
Companies get away with too much shit like this, it needed to be stopped 20 years ago now we get non disparage clauses. Anyone who signs and shills this game deserves to lose their audience
lol the response is like “woah that’s crazy, sorry you found out we do this bs”
No wonder most of the reviews for marvel rivals are full of praise....
Someone help me!!!! What are those magnets Luke is always messing with, I want some lol
Man I'd take the deal to give them a positive negative review, doing positive comparisons with constructive feedback
I would totally fake a "good" review that, upon closer inspection, is actually a satirical and brutal critique. And the amounts of sarcasm would reach defcon levels of excess. 😅
@@Jaguar21010 exactly what I meant, I just didn't state it that eloquently
not gonna lie it's kinda funny hearing you say this after that zenless zone review that was obviously influenced by the fact that it was sponsored...most youtubers aren't as good actors as they imagine they are lol
The worst part of the CSGO lotto skins scandal was those scumbags actually rigged their winnings in the promotion video so they won more often at impossible odds making it seem like winning is totally possible.
Everyone involved with that scummy shit belongs in jail.
I think this pretty much guarantees that Marvel Rivals is going to be terrible. This kind of contract instantly looks bad for both the company and the game
On the other hand. It’s fun af, addicting, and nails the power fantasy for a bunch of Marvel characters.
The game is great though. It's going to be the next overwatch
Not necessarily. They can do scummy stuff AND have the game also happen to be fun. I've seen a number of games now where pre-release the devs/publisher didn't allow certain things and a few people said "welp, guess that means the game is trash then," only for the game to be fantastic.
Will Marvel Rivals be great? Not sure, time will tell, but supposedly people are having a lot of fun in the alpha.
It is entirely possible for the people who make a product to be very good at what they do and also for the marketing department to be completely clueless.
The reverse also exist. Games that are all hype.
I don't think so, after what I've seen, the game is good enough, it's not perfect or the best, but it is fun. This is simply a somewhat dirty business strategy, nowadays all kinds of studios are afraid of first reviews, they no longer have the confidence that these can be positive, even though the product they offer may be good.
It's mean to say truth out loud in 2024.
For a product that's in development, it is. TotalBiscuit is dishonored in his grave by you kids.
funniest part is, due to them not reading the contract, at least in america, they aren't bound by the contract.
contract law requires that the person both read, AND comprehend the contract, to be bound by it.
meaning anytime you click "i have read" check when signing up to sites or playing games, you aren't beholden to those contracts. because you aren't reading, or comprehending them.
Not true kid
@@mattmaas5790 straight to the insults? guess you must be a real intellectual, and educated on the topic.

@@mattmaas5790 throwing insults instead of making arguments against what i've said is literally making personal attacks.

Ye but how easy is it in the excel list to change the color of the name? "This game has higher chance of being seen as negative, send it only to the risk tier3 and above reviewers so we could get better reviews before the release for the first buyers hype". Does it really seem so impossible? In times when they hire psychoilogist trying to figure out how to manipulate you to buy their shit? To get matchmaked not because of your skill but because of what microtransactions you have bought or not bought? This is the times we live in. I think that reducing coverage from negative reviewers is something that they thought of long long time ago.
Disney: "You are explicitly not allowed to say anything bad about the game at all. We are so dedicated to this that we have written it several times in different ways on this legally-binding contract that several, several people had to approve."
Disney later: "Boy, we sure are sorry and we do really value the honesty of the reviews of our products."
Sure, guys. Sure.
Regardless of contracts people should be more critical than just taking everything in a review at face value.
Claims need to be backed up by evidence and evidence needs to make sense to you. "This game is great! I spent 10 hours just smashing rocks" maybe the reviewer genuinely loves that kind of gameplay but do you?
Really what the company should’ve done is just do a media embargo, but it sounds like they want their cake and eat it too by giving early access to the game and letting people review it but then telling them that they can’t review it honestly. it’s definitely dumb of the creators to not read that and then to be mad about it after the fact, but it’s kind of a baby back move by the company to even request it
Did you mention I'd get an inch longer? how??
Paid reviews? What have streamers become?? More than half of the big streamers are just advertising.
An inch longer you say….🤔
This is insane
The people upset that an alpha product that you have no inherent right to play has stipulations are re tards.
Unenforceable clause that can get their lawyers in trouble.
Not unenforceable or abnormal for a alpha product still in development.
Does Luke not know Seagull 😅🫨 Brandon Larned 😅
They’re a Chinese Company what would you expect 🤷🏽♂️
Why is everyone going crazy over this? It's a crappy freemium game. Who gives an f?
I see no negative in the contract
/looks at Zenless Zone Zero
if you do satire in Germany you're always protected and can do whatever you want (basically). so this contract would be void and could be ignored by german creators.
The worst part about this is that the game is pretty good. I have 25hrs so far. I've been having a lot of fun with it, but I don't blame anyone for thinking is bad based on this contract. Terrible.
I don't know how I feel about this honestly. I think that it's clearly not fair to gamers to be making decisions to buy a game based on a dishonest review process. But at the same time, I'm not sure if it should be illegal. They are spending money on this and they should be able to shape the conditions how they like. They don't want to pay for bad reviews. That seems fair, since it hurts their company. In the case that they deserve those bad reviews, I think it should be the community that regulates this kind of behavior, not the law. As long as it gets out that the review process was rigged, and it turns out that the game actually sucks, a lot people won't buy that company's game next time probably.
From what glimpses I saw so far, it is absolutely Overwatch with Marvel skins. The format does not intrigue me as there is just color chaos and little to no storytelling.
I think you're going to get bad opinions from social media right now. The game is great and ow2 is 5v5 now and nothing like it.
@@mattmaas5790 Thanks for the info. The game was never on my radar. Single player guy. If it's good then all the better. I didn't find it appealing but not gonna ruin it for anybody.
React videos is the way around this. Streamer just plays, reacters criticize.
well now iam not going to put any time and money for this game
marvel rivals being a chinese developed game using the marvel/disney license. yeah the game could be fire, but i do not trust that combo of corporation BS that is possible
what happens, If u break the contract? probably not much i guess?
As any other contract, you have to pay them if you break it
Just Another case of shady practices. Nudging that line farther to see what they can get away with. THEN redact with a cold ass kissing 20cent apology. You give these teams 1 inch they take 3 feet! Way to call out this BS!
the fact that they are preventing negative feedback instantly tells me the game is trash and the devs know it and it's gonna be full of the most aggressive monetization possible
I think it's crazy that these "content creators" ask for a key to play a game early and then throw a fit if told no, or if there's stipulations. Wait and play it like the rest of us or sign the contract. Don't cry about it on the internet.
This is honestly a fair take and I'm surprised more people don't share the sentiment.
@Ricolaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa because at the end of the day, most ppl don't agree. I want a content creator to have integrity. Knowing they have thus adds more credibility and interest in what they say/review. So, at the end of the day, them speaking out about this contract and more like these benefits me. Typically saves me time, money, or a headache.
There's probably creators who 'cry about it' in a way, but on the other hand, I don't see what good it will do if nobody cares what's in the contracts. If all companies did that, and if every reviewer just signed the contracts no questions asked, we might as well let the companies review their own games and be done with it.
@@hg06syndicate14 I get what you mean. It's extremely rare to find legitimate creators now.
I've been trying to find some that do it just for fun cause they seem to be the most truthful.
@hg06syndicate14 I'm talking mainly about the entitlement of getting a key early. Especially during beta periods. If the developers want to give you access early but say "hey, please don't bash our game yet", then I think that's fine. Just talk about what you like, and then once that embargo is lifted, say anything you want. Early access is a privilege, and then to complain that you can't play it because you want to be able to talk terrible about it if you want? Seems like entitlement and being childish. Content creators these days can destroy a game before it even has a chance to live. So I understand the contracts on early access.
AAA gaming is a joke now. If they don't want negative reviews then make a good game. This is already triggering red flags
Don't think anyone with taste will like the game.
Why am I not surprised
Because youre brainwashed. This is an alpha test not a full release.
You litteraly done the same thing for that sweet baby inc game like 2 weeks ago, are you just mad they didn't pay you?
Essentially every early acces review is now invalid
This isn't even early access, this is pre-EA closed alpha test like halfway through development.
the last of us 1 remake was good ass take
it is a shameless overwatch clone developed by the chinese company netease so its easy to guess why they dont want people talking bad about the game

For me this is a non story. I've NEVER bought (or conversely not bought) any media because of reviews. Media reviews are the biggest scam ever, (yes, that's hyperbole) 99 percent of critics are no more qualified to judge artistic merit than a random hobo off the street.
The only thing I take from any reviews is present game mechanics, because if anyone lies about systems inside the game they get called out. I like to know what my gameplay could possibly look like depending on the purchase.
I believe they've already rolled this back / clarified this further.
