I will never EVER be able to wrap my mind around how MULTIPLE men are capable of sexual gratification while they are all taking turns and watching eachother torture, hurt, abuse and humiliate another person. Regardless of gender, age, situation in life, but especially when it involves a truly innocent young girl with hopes and dreams and a family that loves her. It just makes me feel sick and hopeless. So disgusting and evil.
There is a book that explores this called Our Guys, but as a warning is horribly disturbing as it is a true story. The gist of the theory is that men who commit group acts like this are using the situation as a way to bond with each other, which is horrifying. It mimics other scenarios where violence is used to facilitate bonding (war, contact sports)

My Mom always retells this story to me because we live in the neighboring city. She said that Mayor Sanchez was really known for killing people and taking beautiful girls - Eileen and Allan were not his only victim. It just so happen that Eileen’s family also has some money, power and connection in the government so her case was pursued. If not, her killing will just be another town gossip and Sanchez will just continue to rule his town.
This is true. If youre poor in the Philippines nobody will cater to your problems. My former professor was brutally murdered by his Muslim girlfriend's family and was never given justice for it.
Not only that the University which this happened in is The University of the Philippines Los Banos.
And you know how gungho that university is when it comes to justice and most alumni of this University helped to convict this monster.

This is my university and sadly it only got worse when i was there back in 2011. The SAs, robbery and the murders of students and children around the area got so bad that we had a 12 am curfew for months until a suspect was found. And as usual it was someone related to the authorities. 🤦🏻♀️

The girl was my classmate and I was at the Uni when that happened. I was in class as they paraded the bodies around campus and we heard the screams as her sorority sisters were called in and identified her at the campus police HQ. The only reason the “mayor” was convicted was that he probably doesn’t know that the girl was part of a very powerful sorority. If you’re a member of said sorority you’re either very pretty or very rich. At the time their alumni were part of broadcasting media and or from affluent communities (i.e., residents of Forbes Park). It was a very scary time for us as the “mayor” was very known to be extremely violent and untouchable.

Looking at comments. This case had so much more .
1) mayor’s family supporting the mayor
2) his family not compensating the family
3) he was mayor of nearby town.
4) the girl was paraded 😢 without cover on her body .
5) there were a lot of similar cases this got highlighted because the girl was powerful too .
6) the mayor was known for kidnapping and abduction.
7) getting into this university means these were top tier students.
I might add that his lawyer was a top aide of former president Duterte. He was freed, along with several other detainees(all clients of the same lawyer, many guilty of equally heinous crimes). When it became public knowledge that he's out (illegally), death threats forced him back to prison.
I would also add that the state witness, a man ordered to bury the body, admitted to burying several other victims of the said mayor. Investigators found the remains where he said they were buried, but the mayor wasn't charged because nobody can identify the remains(there was no affordable DNA sequencing tech back then). Nothing but the words of an undertaker and unidentifiable remains(but mostly females of roughly the same age bearing the same bullet holes to the face)
Additionally, there was also a failed abduction attempt one year prior to this incident, the two men described as attempting to abduct a group of female students at gunpoint were among those charged in this case. Cases like these are among the reasons why mayors are no longer given the power to appoint or terminate police officers(which the previous president wants to restore).
Politicians and cops are in it together since tome imemorial. That’s Philippines.
Add to the list that the possibility of the high profile criminals and not just Mayor Sanchez but also the idc eh eh eh policeman murderer "died" and instantly cremated. It was controversial because 8 of them "died" around the same time and they were ALL HIGH PROFILE CASES. And no way to verify because the bodies were cremated immediately after taking pics as proof. When my mother was younger, she used to work at that mayor's sister-in-law's house years before he was imprisoned. When the news came out that he could be let out recently, she shared with us that whenever that mayor visited his sister-in-law, her boss would tell her and other girl workers to go home and not let themselves be seen by him. He was really infamous for kidnapping any girl that he liked and you would know it's true when his own relatives would be that cautious and try to protect their employees. We still live in the same area and we were scared that he would get out of jail that time.

The fact that the mayor almost got away but fortunately didn't, is shocking. I am surprised that the President fired the individual who attempted to help the mayor escape. This type of accountability doesn't happen often enough due to corruption among those in power who are involved. However, I am pleased with the outcome of this case and the justice that the parents received.
The coverage is amazing as always. I think what was missed in the story is that U.P Los Banos is a branch of the University of The Philippines. Just like the main campus which is in Manila, it is very hard to get accepted. You have to be one of the smartest kids in the country to pass the entrance exam. Sometimes even if you pass, if the list is full, you won't be able to enroll. The students are called Nation's Scholar because the university is funded by the government. Knowing that the victims are not just your ordinary college student really hits hard. These guys are one of the most studious students you will find. All that hard work, that intelligence, that good was taken all for pleasure of a greedy scum. Glad he died in his cell.
Its all about power, some people exclaim oh that person had access to all the sex they could want why would they do that? Sure he is the mayor and with all the sex workers and mistresses he could get all anyone with a high libido could want. But he wants to take something against someones will, and to feel like he can have *anything* he wants. Its the power, its sick and gross.
I came from the Philippines and I remember this being on the news and everyone was devastated and enraged. This remained one of the high profile cases to this day.

This case gave me nightmares the first time I heard about it. I studied at the same school, different campus, so I felt a certain connection to this young girl. As a young woman myself, what happened to her made me fear men.
The scary thing to me is it's not just men. I'm not defending like, yeah men do sexual attacks more but the horrific things humanity is capable of is so overwhelming if you think about it too long. I recommend like, seeking out the good in the world actively, because the negative stuff is presented to us without us looking for it just constantly.

What the bad guys were referring to here when they said to go turbo on her is a metaphor to stuffing her like a chicken inside a turbo broiler. Here in the Philippines, it's popular to "turbo" the chicken wherein you stuff the chicken cavity with herbs and spices until it's overflowing. Then you put it in the Turbo broiler. The way these two were doing nothing at all. Just living their lives, completely uninvolved, trying to succeed in college and this happened. It’s sick.
As a women, I have a underlying sensation of fear every single time I walk out of my house. Even just to get something from my car or do some yard work. I am afraid that some monster is gonna happen to see me and decide at that moment, for whatever reason, that I am his target.
What happened to this young woman is exactly why I feel afraid. He saw her for a split second and decided he wanted her.
I am sickened by the violence we see against women all over the world. Simply so that some creep can get off. Enough!!
As a single mum with a daughter, im also scared being in my own home. I wish i had someone else living with me so i didnt feel like such a target. Luckily i live in a fairly safe country, not a very good area tho. (Not that it seems to matter where you live, bad things can happen anywhere)
I feel you. You always have to be cautious as a woman. I was molested by my mother's boyfriend when I was 13 till 14 years. Someone I thought I could trust. My mother didn't even care. So never forget that other women can be bad too. So basically, you need to be careful with anyone. Not saying that you should immediately think bad of someone. I try to keep in mind that not everybody is like that. And that's the best thing you can do, because otherwise you'd go insane with paranoia and miss out on getting to know really good people. But definitely keep your eyes open for any red flags and always take those red flags seriously.
But yeah I definitely understand you. Try as I might, I always feel intimidated around men when I don't know them yet. I also don't go out on my own when it's dark, avoid places that have a reputation of being shady, don't go to an event without a group of friends etc. It's sad that we have to take precautions like that, but it's for our safety.

I have social anxiety due to childhood sexual trauma and other SA traumas as an adult and after I broke up with my ex, I began having severe panick attacks because men did not stop catcalling me. I was on crutches and some of them (80%) wanted to "help me" by taking my crutches, and one man actually did and I could barely fucking walk so I turned around and yanked them out of his hands and fisted them like they were my weapons to protect me. It's insane what they did the moment I broke up with my ex and while crippled.
After this experience I honestly feel the way you described 24/7 and I literally threw my crutches in the corner of my room and haven't used them ever since and my ankle is still bad but at least no man is trying to take away the one thing that is holding me up...
My sister went missing for two months nearly 4 years ago now. During that time, there was a story running on the news about a young woman who'd been found dead at our local park. She'd been assaulted, beaten and then murdered. I was almost certain it was my sister.
I lost it for just a bit, there. Thankfully, it wasn't. But I've never quite been able to shake the terror and despair I felt on that day. I hate it with every fiber of my being and it is never far from my mind. I know for a fact that if that poor woman had been my sister, I would have never, ever recovered. Our last conversation before that had been a pretty nasty argument. I would have given anything in that moment to take it back.
In some ways, it's been a positive change in my life. I'm more cautious now and I always make sure I part ways with loved ones on good terms... but the fact that we have to live in such constant fear... I don't know man. I really don't know how to word it. It just aches.
Your storytelling is very engaging. Some things that I want to add because I was teaching in the university when this happened. Back then, classes in the Philippines start in June so it didn't happen during a summer break. Eileen's body was sent to the university police office without any cover so a lot of students saw and were horrified on that early morning. The university is in the town of Los Banos that has a different mayor. Mayor Sanchez ruled over a neighboring town called Calauan. He had the reputation of being corrupt through an illegal game of chance called jueteng, the same accusation that caused a Philippine president to be ousted. It is also noteworthy to mention that the parents of Aileen and Allan made sure that their children got the justice that they deserved.

Thanks for the clarifications I was a little confuse during the case with the different descriptions of the mayor, so they were two different mayors. And it was just cruel for them to paraded the bodies of the victims in the university they attended

My heart hurts for Eileen. She did nothing to be in so much pain. I think crimes this horrendous should have a sentence or punishment that is as horrendous as the crime they did.

There's also a case from Paloma an inspiring actress. She was R and SA by a celebrity and politicians here in the Philippines. She tried to seek justice but her truth was heavily corrupted, she took her life and her oppressors are one of the richest people today here in our country.

One of the most disturbing moments of my University life. I attended the same University, Eileen was my batchmate, she was on the College of Agriculture while I was on the College of Engineering just a stone throw apart across the road. Eileen was my classmate on one of my cognate classes in Agronomy. Something as a choice outside the more rigorous classes in Engineering. Actually, she was on our lab group. I remember her as a very reserved person but yet fiesty and curious in a good sense and spot on one of the most recognizable figures around the campus without trying to be one. I remember her sitting alone in front of the Library lobby with her usual white shirt and levis jeans preparing for our exam,, looked at me very relaxed almost telling me not to worry. What happened that day changed my life.

I was just meters away from where the abduction happened at the time they believe the abduction happened. There was an arcade there(coin operated video game machines), very close to Tops. I usually spend my time there after dinner, partly because of the power crisis and they have a generator. I had absolutely no idea something bad happened just meters from where I was.

As I remember, Eileen conducted an interview with the Mayor months before the murder. It was for there thesis. That is the time that the Mayor got interested with Aileen. So every night those men would be looking out for Eileen... There are also other students got raped by the Mayor but would not testify because they were too afraid.
That’s terrifying and so scary 😢 I wonder why he chose to let some of the people live after SA-ing but didn’t do the same for Eileen? So terrifying 😭
@@ritariza2835I would think it’s likely because her friend was taken too and he was killed. Many of the other victims were likely taken alone and therefore could be scared into silence.

If it's just a girl all by herself, in a more conservative country she might not want to come forward because of how people will treat her. Someone being there who could testify with her would make it more likely for her to come forward. If they kill him she would know and would probably talk to police, so they killed both

Unfortunately, everyone knows that the police are corrupt in the Philippines. It's also part of why I always dress like trash when I visit my family in there. These poor people did not deserve any of that. RIP, thank you for bringing this to people's attention.
The mayor’s daughter was a classmate when i was in elementary. I clearly remember how she ran away from our class because at that day it was announced that her dad, the mayor, was guilty. Los Baños has such a small community that almost everyone knows each other. So having this news at that time was really shocking and devastating. It was too close to home. It was scary for a kid like me too especially when you have met them personally and i was in disbelief that a father can do that to someone else’s daughter and son. Nobody deserves to die that way.

I don't know if this will bring comfort to you, but I was being poisoned & didn't know it & died in an ambulance in 2018. My Service Dog was with me - he's my 4th dog & 3rd Service Dog. It was very painful & I was seizing & my chest hurt. My body hurt less as mu heartbeat got weaker & I had the conscious thought, "Well, this wasn't what I expected (dying that particular way) but I've had a crazy (full-ish, interesting) life."
Then I experienced the most profound peace & was in a nice bright cozy place with my trio of deceased dogs. I understood "the people & the rest of the things" were beyond my dogs, but then I was back in my body. I didn't have a "choice" like some explain - it wasn't asked whether or not I wanted to like, go back or not.
I could "see" the paramedics outside of the ambulance in my mind's eye - I couldn't really move or open my eyes. Sound came back first, but there was no machine beeping or sirens blaring. It was very quiet. I tried to sit up but couldn't, & still couldn't open my eyes; but I was able to flop my left arm down over the side of the stretcher, where it landed on my dog. I understood I was alive when I felt tangible dog fur again.
Eventually I was able to sit up & call for the paramedics. They came in & just kinda stopped & stared at me for minute. They were on the phone with their supervisor.
My dogs' souls definitely went somewhere. I definitely went somewhere - just not in my physical body. And it was nice. Where you have a question about the afterlife, I have questions about life because an afterlife is a known to me.
Eileen & Allen are at peace, with relatives gone before them, & with their childhood pets if they had any. They will likewise greet their loved ones someday when their time comes, too.

UP is actually one of the top universities here in the Philippines. They're known to be activist, often criticize the government and fight on what they think is right. It has free tuition and students are often called 'iskolar ng bayan' which means scholar of the country. It's sad to think that they killed 2 people that definitely has big dreams, not only for themselves, but also for the country.

learning about true crime is like a double edged sword. on one hand ive gained more awareness over the things that can happen and to be more careful when in public, but at the same time ive also kinda gained an underlying fear of life in general. like this could be anyone. it could be me, you. its just so terrifying to think about. i could be on my usual bus casually going home from college and then the most unthinkable thing could happen to me. why would anyone want to leave the house with those kind of possibilities

Exactly. Based on the sheer brutality of the crime, its safe to say that they were used to doing this. Maybe they didn’t go as far as murder but they probably have prior cases of SAs and harassment.

I was born and raised in the same municipality and attended the same uni, so this case is twice more horrifying to me. I remember my parents warning me about the dangers of staying out late, and they would mention this case (alongside a more recent one: look up Given Grace). When my friends and I were attending uni, we'd always make sure to walk as a group when it gets late. Cases like this remind me that simply existing as a woman in this world is already a danger, which makes me so sick and angry. I got really emotional, remembering feeling so helpless and scared frozen when I encountered vile men. They're literally everywhere. We don't deserve this. I really hope that they all rest in peace.

I know someone who knew someone that is a relative to Givem Grace's family, and there are details about that horrific case that he told me, i felt sick and still feeling sick when I remembered it.
I graduated from the same University as them. I remember my mom trying to stop me from studying there when I got accepted. My dad would have nightmares about me getting harmed. UPLB is vast, with a lot of wooded areas. Because of this case, we would never leave the dorms alone when it's dark. We would walk in groups, because of the dark paths. It's a beautiful university in the morning, but it's ominous at night. I never heard the details till now. Thank you for shining light to this case.
I knew these 2 students and the mayor personally. The while thing was devastating. To this day, this still haunt me.

I don’t know how it works in the Phillipines, but if a Mayor and a bunch of cops went to prison here for a gang rape and murder, they would have to be in protective custody the whole life sentence. The other prisoners would try and find a way to kill them constantly. Even rapists that aren’t cops suffer, but a Mayor and cops would be daily targets in Australia.
3 died in jail last 2019. the mayor also died in jail in 2021.

I was a freshman at that time in that university and there was an eerie feeling around the campus while the investigation was still ongoing. Somehow, you know someone who knew the victims and there were many speculations surrounding the case. I still wonder where she could have been if that gruesome abduction and murder didn't happen. I feel very sorry for her parents. 😔

You might still be young, the case concluded in 1993. It was really sensationalized back then. There was even a movie made about it. If I'm not mistaken, Kris Aquino starred in it.

Until now Sanchez's family is in denial that their father is a monster.. i went to school with the grandkids but they never mention this. Then when we go to field trips and the tour guides find out we are from calauan this is the first thing they mention. This case that is forever scary and sad and heartbreaking.

I asked my mom about this. Like I just mentioned what happened and not the victims name and she knew about it! She said it was such a wide scandal and issue during that time and she almost flew back home because of how dangerous it was.

This case is so outlandish that it doesn't even feel real, and it's so sad that it actually is. The whole time it felt like Stephanie was not covering a true case, but a summary of a horribly made movie. The corruption of the police officers is unbelievable. I was a kid when this tragic case happened. I remember seeing the actual devil on TV, with his ugly hair, fake ass smile and tons of religious artifacts in his home. He tried so hard to show that he is a religious family man in his interviews, but something was definitely off. You can see evil lurking in his eyes. His capture and the video of him falling down the stairs while cursing at the crowd has been played in the news over and over for days. I watched it over and over while cursing back at him.

I was in grade school when this happened. This was a bone-chilling story and I saw re-enactments on tv. Now that I am a mother I couldn’t imagine the pain both of their families went through esp Eileen’s. I couldn’t imagine the confusion, pain and fear she went through of every second from the moment they were abducted up until her last breath.

Although I can't handle the novelization of a case like this still I appreciate attention brought to this type of cases, I'm from México and it's absolutely brutal the violence most against women. I believe feminicides shows how broken a society is specially when is done with such level of cruelty and impunity like here. Be careful but also enjoy life people.

This is one of the cases we studied in law school. I still remember this case vividly. The case file of this crime was so specific it is forever burned in my brain and one of the reasons I stay away from rape cases .
I watched Allan's mother interview. She said that Allan himself threw the wallet so that people will atleast know that they're missing. I remember listening to this disturbing story back then. Still the most disgusting story of r@pe in the Philippines.

No amount of jail time or suffering could ever suffice for what those demons did that poor girl and her friend. I can't even imagine what Eileen went through in those last moments. All that terror, humiliation, loneliness and pain. And I can't imagine what it did to her family when they heard that their poor daughter and her friend met such a tragic, senseless end. I don't know if there's a way to ever heal from that. I just hope that Eileen and Allan are at peace, and I hope their murderers never find peace.

The humanity aspect would feel removed and the stories felt like they were simply told to satisfy true crime enthusiasts. With little empathy to the victims involved. It’s why I always come back to Stephanie. It’s like my best friend telling me a story. She handles these so well and really listened to her critics. She includes show notes, she works with translators to not only fact check but to understand the nuances of how these crimes affected, dealt with, and resonated with locals or netizens.
