Great video, the little boy was a ham! I loved him. All of the kids were adorable and having a good ole time. It brought back memories of myself as a little kid in the late 60's, I climbed trees and played outside until dark, no cell phones, no tablets. Just good ole dirt and grass. Loved this video, definitely simpler times. ❤😀😃😄
I also loved the big houses with beautiful big front porches. Now days a lot of houses have tiny ugly porches, i love my porch, i sit out on it every day. I couldn't imagine not having it. 😀

They have sidewalks. What a novel concept! Because, you know, people may want to walk safely around the neighborhood separated from the traffic. Not like today, where they create developments with no sidewalks and you're forced to walk in the road with vehicles speeding by you.
My area has sidewalks on one side of the street and not on the other side. It was that way when I lived in a townhouse, and it is the same way now that I live in a house. I guess they expect you to walk on one side only and use the sidewalk. But no one does that. People on my side, with the sidewalk, use it. People across the street walk in the street. I don't think they wanted to leave enough room for two sidewalks. But I find it strange. And as you wrote, some have no sidewalks at all. Stranger yet. In this video, the kids have a lot of room to play and sidewalks, too. It strikes me as a kinder and gentler time. And everyone in the video had a smile. Plus sidewalks, too.
@rb9628 There are so few sidewalks in America because they (Henry Ford?) decided America should be a car centric country. It was a terrible idea and greatly contributes to the impersonal landscape you have today. No one can walk anywhere unless they live in certain, heavily European influenced, areas. I live in the U.K. and you can pretty much walk anywhere except for a few, more rural, areas.
Yeah, I don't see kids playing outside anymore, they are all on their damn cell phones or laptops, in the 1950's we played outside after supper until dark.
I am guessing maybe Milwaukie just because of the sidewalks and that aerial shot. My mom was from Wisconsin. A very little rural town called Russell. She would have been 9 years old in 1929.

Yes!! Both my parents have passed. My mom born 1928, my dad 1926. My mom said when she was little there were still a lot of civil war vets around. Also, my mom's mom was born 1897.
I was wondering if this was Canonsburg PA, mostly because of the church which looked very similar to that when I went to relative's weddings in the early '60's. That would put it on Main street (east to west) Canonsburg. But then a church is just a church, and many EVERYWHERE look the same.
Kids had more pleasure with the simple things back then. They relied on their own abilities and imagination, and no expectations.....Kids today lack this completely...these days they take their lives from boredom. Not ever in our time..........
'Suburbs' really began outside most major cities when passenger rail service, both main line and trolley, expanded late in the 19th century. You no longer had to live within walking distance of your job. It accelerated when cars came in.
@@RS-dm4yo No, it did. There was a term for it.'Streetcar Suburb'. And in the town I grew up in, outside Boston the population quadrupled from 1900 to 1940, similar to many other towns in the area.

In 1929, when this was filmed, only about 10,000 black people lived in the entire state of Wisconsin. Most of them lived in Milwaukee. This was filmed in Fon du Lac. However, yes, segregation was still a part of the U.S. back then until the 60s. This was clearly a family that had money. Poor white families would not have lived near them, either. There was racial and financial segregation. There still is financial segregation. I will never be able to move next to Tom Cruise, now will I? I am a white female, but I simply lack the funds. Is it a social injustice that people who don't have enough money, aren't allowed near those that do, or should we maybe just work harder to get to where we want to be? After all, there are plenty of rich black people who live in gated communities near other white rich people now. You know segregation existed back then, so why ask a rhetorical question? Instead, thank the Democrats who passed the Jim Crow laws, and vote them out to keep them from continuing to sow divisiveness. They're the only ones keeping race and color on life support. No one else cares. We treat everyone the same, based on their qualities as a person.
