    If you are doing this in your driveway, you should take off the brake calipers first. The spindle is just too heavy to get back on otherwise. Also, this video shows the plastic covers already off - you will need to remove those before starting. Great video other than these minor issues.

    How very Edd China.
    Great stuff though! Now if you'll excuse me.. it's time to go outside and swear at my BMW while playing High Stakes Jack-in-the-box with some spring compressors.

    Thanks for the great video! My struts are shot on my e61 and I'm wondering how can you know if you need only the shocks or the hardware that goes on top of it? Like strut mount and bump stop

    Thanks for making this video. I have a 05 645ci in need of full suspension since my mileage is 137,000 mi. I already purchased Bilstein shocks and Lesjofors springs to get the new ride feel. I know I can tackle this project as I did my e36 just need to know the tools needed. I am in NYC and my tools are in Tampa,FL so I have to buy alot of tools to do the job here. Grrrrrr. After seeing this video I know I can do it. Also, isn't the rear control arm supposed to be tightened with the suspension under a load?????

    • @autodocuk
      @autodocuk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for your feedback! You are absolutely right - the suspension fixings control tensioning should be carried out, when a car is on its wheel and under its weight loading. We recommend that you contact our Support Team, where our managers will check all the suitable car parts more thoroughly. Best regards, Autodoc.

    At 12:45, how do you get the nut to tighten on the shaft without spinning the whole shock? The shaft has a torx thread in it, which would be used to hold the shaft still while tightening the nut, but there is no way to fit a wrench around the nut.

    • @autodocuk
      @autodocuk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your feedback! Yes, you are absolutely right: when tightening the central bolt, it is necessary to hold the strut rod. Best regards, Autodoc.

    Not best method, albeit it is official BMW ISTA method.
    Remove tie rod end and other stuff.
    NO NEED TO SPLIT LOWER BALL JOINTS.
    Loosen top 3 strut mount nuts.
    Lever down and bring full assembly out under wheel arch.
    Much faster and less danger of damage to lower joints.

    Isn't there ment to be a pin or something at the top of the strut to keep it secure? I need to adjust my e61 front passenger side as the camber is way out.

    • @autodocuk
      @autodocuk  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your feedback! The shock mount of this model of car provides only one position that's why it can't be mounted incorrectly. During the replacement of this car part was involved many joints of suspension mount. The wheel settings could get busted during the assembly. In this case we recommend to visit a specialized car service center with a wheel alignment for furthering adjustment. Best regards, Autodoc.

      Bilstein have the same part L & R and it will fit either side. BMW (Sachs) have a slightly different marking for the left and right to align them. Bilstein simply chose to have both the markings on the same shock.

    Can you use the procedure for xi model?

    • @autodocuk
      @autodocuk  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the four wheel drive car this procedure is different because it is necessary to further disassemble the drive shafts from the hub. Best regards, Autodoc.

    • @marcwoodward8056
      @marcwoodward8056 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NO! It is similar but not the same. If you follow the instruction here without disconnecting the output shaft the hub will fall forward causing the output shaft to separate on the outboard side inside the boot... Ask me how I know?!?! You can fit the shaft back together but you will end up removing it from the car to do so. This was supposed to be an afternoon project & turned into a 2 day mess! If you have an Xi E60 DO NOT follow this guide. Do some research & you will find easier ways to change the struts without removing all the components shown here.
