100% agree Ethan. I used to shoot either 24 or 85 on Sony and slowly came to realize it wasn't for me. Felt like I was forcing it. I still found 35 to be too wide as well. 90% of my work is on the 33 1.4 or the 80 1.7. Although with the GFX, I find the 80 1.7 can be too tight and feels like an 85 on FF (even though its wider at 63). Waiting on a good deal for the 55 1.7 and I'll snag that, sell my 80 1.7.
Yeah, I feel like 50 is the focal length all photographers end up at in time. I wish the 55 1.7 were a bit snappier to focus, but it’s a real gem when you give it time and space to do its thing.
I love the self irony! However it has to be said that this is not "a 50 mill", it has the field of view of a 45mm on the long side, but like a 40mm on the short side of the frame, in terms of FF. Different aspect ratio... Anyway it gives a bit more space to the images. But I can totally identify with that "I first hated the 50mm" comment, same here for my very first 50mm on my old film SLR in the 80ies.
@@bernios3446 yeah it’s hard (wrong) to generalise when talking about translating true focal length to equivalent field of view compared to a different sensor, compounded by a different aspect ratio.
Everyone has their own way of doing things, I think I’ve just found my rhythm. We’ll see if that changes with my switch to Fuji when next wedding season comes. Haha the bit where I just CBF finishing the video properly, and then compare it to a toilet? 🥲
@@jasonmarkharris yeah I feel ya! I love 28. For me, at the moment at least, the system is all about extra special portraits, which the 55 nails. The 30mm is great, mega sharp and quick to focus. I haven’t done much serious shooting with it but have enjoyed the little bits I’ve done with it.
@@ethanlowryphotography I have a friend selling a 50r with 50mm for a great price so might just snag that for fun as my entry into the GFX system. I have used all the 50mp versions and preferred the rangefinder style. Really hoping the do a gfx 50/100v style model with fixed lens. I definitely want the 55mm though. 💯

@@ethanlowryphotography Wild man!! Forgot to note that my favorite part was the contrast between the brown and green hues.. with the dead foliage and the green foliage. Good shit man!!

Super interesting that 50mm is 80% of your wedding work! I feel like not enough photographers support this.
Honestly cracked up at the last bit 😂

28/50 here 🎉
This is the way 💥
I just wish they had a 28 equivalent on the GFX as still on the fence. But I will buy one soon. How’s the 30mm?

@@jasonmarkharris nice! Yeah man that’s a great entry point.
