    Nice piece! That's one of our favorite lenses for the medium format setup. We just picked up the rare Mamiya 300mm 2.8 to test on the GFX100s for video/photo - will try to get something posted to one of our personal accounts.

    Keep it up - and yes, the 645 lenses were designed for a film size / images larger than the 44x33mm GFX sensor size, so no vignette as you said. I think they will be going up and up in price as GFX (and perhaps other similar systems) become more popular..

    Thanks truly for making these videos, watching your videos have helped a lot in choosing vintage lenses for my GFX, there a few videos out there with people using old lenses on new medium formats but not all of them are better photographers like you (and maybe vuhlandes). so, its helpful to have your input on them. Thanks again.

    Hey Josh :) I was wondering. How difficult is it to work with focus on the manuel lens? What is your go-to? :)

    • @joshshanksphoto
      @joshshanksphoto  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not too bad, especially on the 45mm for some reason. It's always been a little harder on the 80mm for me, the focus throw just seems to be longer on that one. But for now the 45 is my go to!

    Wouldn’t it be tighter than 45mm on a GFX since the sensor is smaller?

    • @joshshanksphoto
      @joshshanksphoto  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, the sensors bigger than full frame so it has a .79x crop factor

    • @whatcouldgowrong7914
      @whatcouldgowrong7914 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ Was referring to medium format as digital medium format is a lot smaller than film?

    • @joshshanksphoto
      @joshshanksphoto  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, so the 45mm is like a 28mm equivalent on a 645 and a 35mm equivalent on the GFX so yeah it's tighter than the 645 field of view

    Great video. What adapter do you use to fit the M645 on the GFX?

    • @joshshanksphoto
      @joshshanksphoto  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fotodiox. It's an ok adapter, there's a very small spring in it that comes out easy. I use it without the spring now, albeit a little precariously. If you can spend a little more for a more sturdy one I'd recommend it

    Nice video. It would be nice to see how this lens compares to the GF 50mm f/3.5. I have the 50mm on my 50r and love it. How is corner sharpness with the 45mm? At what f-stop does it achieve maximum sharpness in the corners?

    Was this a S or N version of the lens?
    Kids! Auto focus sucks man. You can do better with your eye. Auto anything sucks. Just take your time and get the shot. Also, your 80mm vs 45mm comparison is flawed. The brightness are not equal. Try out a 24mm or vintage lens sometime. Maybe try out a fish eye on a zoom. Your photos don't tell me anything. It is ants crawling around on the face of a cliff with a waterfall. Start looking at magazine covers, photography books, and the museum of art. The museum is a great place to learn lighting. Those old guys had light in their paintings. I did that when I was starting out. Your photos are like snapshots. You need composition and framing. This means you have to start thinking like an artist.

    • @joshshanksphoto
      @joshshanksphoto  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      They're not like snapshots they are snapshots, most of them. And the 80mm v 45mm is a focal length comparison for the visual the brightness is irrelevant. Thanks for your advice though.

      That would be great, but they don't let you do that here. There is AI here that just removes the post and sometimes black lists you. It might look like you commented when seen from your own channel, but in fact no one else can see it. Weird right? A lot of my work is product related these days. Creating images that are compelling for recording studio engineers. However, you can work it out if you try a little. My channel here is Mossware Pro Audio. I bet if you slide those three words together, then put an extension on it (hint hint) then you might get to at least some of my current work. I designed that unit. Let me know if that works for you? Those images are all made with vintage lenses.

      On eBay I just passed on what was advertised as a Mamiya 45mm f/2.8 N lens for $125, but in fact was a Mamiya 45mm f/2.8 S type lens. That is a huge difference. The seller knew nothing about this. It sold for just under $200, but the N series is much better and costs more. On the N type the serial number is on the side of the lens. On the S type the serial number is on the lens ring. A lot of times there will be fungus on lenses that come out of humid areas. Lenses need to be kept below 50% humidity. I also like to keep them in non-organic cases. So, the old leather causes go into the trash. I use nylon cases. Right now I have about 33 vintage lenses. Each one has a different look. I generally use the lenses wide open. Olympus had this different idea of how colors should look. That is pretty interesting. I like the fast versions like the Olympus OM-System G.Zuiko Auto-S 55mm f1.2 Radioactive 3389 CPM or the Olympus OM-System Zuiko MC Auto-S 50mm f1.4 Black Nose Radioactive 460 CPM . They have a razor thin DOF. I use it for effect. I also use Asahi Super-Multi-Coated Takumar and FUJINON lenses for those photos that I talked about. I also use Russian Jupiter 9 85mm f2 (1966 version) M39 Silver with Lilac Lens Coating for some requirements. The Jupiter 9 lenses are German, but acquired by Russia after WWII.
