Eric you're so gorgeous. I grew up in Fort Smith NWT and figure skated there. Wish I'd been talented enough at tennis or track to come out during my career

Well we have two skaters have come out. But why you tell boys it's ok because you were successful. Just seen this.

Wait a minute.............You wanted to show young people that it is ok to be gay, and that you can do anything you want just like a str8 person. Yet he waited to come out until his career dreams were already fulfilled; NOT before or during. How is that an inspiration for young people to come out? The message I'm getting is, DON't come out till you are already a success!

While I agree with you it does feel a bit like coming out after the fact which always seems pointless to me, he did continue to compete for 4 years after that, so I give him credit for that, but when athletes come out after retirement it does maks me question what message it is supposed to send to young people.

He came out right before the Olympic Games in Korea, hence he achieved his biggest accomplishment (an Olympic medal) as an out-of-the closet man. Hope that clears things out. ;)

I think you have to consider that he also came out officially in pairs skating which epitomizes defined masculine and feminine roles where judging and fans can be influenced by heterosexual romantic norms where the man does all the heavy lifting and acts as completely dominate. A good example is watching Bruno Massot or Morgan Cipres. There will never be a pairs competition with two men (or two women for that matter) as a pair.. at least in our lifetimes.
