G'day mates, I hope you are all doing well! This film was pretty heavy to say the least... I hope you stick around to watch the outro as thats where I'll give you my score/thoughts/opinions & questions about the film and it's topics. I asked quite a few questions in the outro and I hope some of you can illuminate me. As we are talking about sensitive subjects can we please keep it civil even if we don't agree with each other. Healthy debates are fine but I only ask that you do not attack people personally. Keep it professional and never personal! Cheers, legends! ❤

If you look at the medals in the sheriffs office, you can see a silver star. He is also a veteran, but from the Korean war, he does not like dirty hippies, or bad hygiene at all for that matter. He feels forgotten and overshadowed by the Vietnam war, thus in his position he takes it out on others in his safe little town.

Fun fact about Rambo's knife. When the movie came out they sold the knives as well. My parents got me one, I was around 8 or so at the time. It indeed came with needle and thread , a wire saw, fish hooks, matches and a compass (everything fit into the hilt of the knife and the screw on cap to it had the compass built in), it also came with a sharpening stone with it's own compartment on the shealth. I still have it to this day. It's has gone on many wilderness trips with me and seen much use and wear and tear!

When Rambo jumped off the cliff and used the trees. They planned to do a lot of editing tricks and nets. But Stallone said F that Imma do it myself. So he really did jump from that height into the trees. The part where he hits the branch and yells “ah Jesus!” He broke some ribs and they had to halt production for a few weeks but Stallone is a machine so he came back after only a few weeks.

Vietnam ended in 1975, so it was a 60's and 70's "Conflict". It was a very unpopular war in the US which generated lots of Anti War Protests. Some of those protestors wore "Military Gear" with bogus patches and medals to mock the Military. The Sheriff ASSUMED Rambo was an Anti War Protestor - not a Vet. Veterans back then were not allowed to wear anything but their Dress Uniforms in public, so anyone NOT in full dress was "obviously" a protestor".
It was also assumed that any self respecting person would find a way to avoid serving in Vietnam (many fled the Country). So if you were serving, you were complicit in murder and vague atrocities supposedly committed by US Troops - like "Killing Babies". If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.
Yes, returning Vets were spit at and called all sorts of things. Viet Vets generally avoided telling people about their Military Service. No one was going to shake your hand and thank you for your service.
I joined the Marines when I was 17 in 1971. Less than 12 months later I was IN Vietnam during the "Easter Offensive", a 5 month long battle around Quang Tri which produced over 100,00 casualties. When I came home, my own friends shunned me. Former classmates called me everything but Human and refused to have anything to do with a Murderer.
It wasn't until the Gulf War that people began thanking service members for their service.

I Really Hate wars . Too many common people die and are injured Physically and Emotionally . And it affects their Families and Cillians too.
Wars seem to motivated sometimes with "good intentions" but more often seems to be about land, resources, politics.
True . Vietnam has been one of , if not , the least popular war. Poor troops were treated badly upon return.
True . In the earlier wars WW1,2 and recent wars , even wrong wars , there has been more Thanks .
I'm glad to see there has been some progress at respecting Vietnam Vets. Never mind it took at least 30 or more years .

I was born in 1971, grew up in the 70s & 80s. My entire generation was horrified at the rampant mindless contempt for our Vietnam vets. It was pervasive & 99% of those men served honorably & bravely.
I'm sorry for all that you & the men who served with you endured. How you all were treated is a real stain on the soul of our nation. Unforgiveable

I discovered this channel quite by chance and decided to stick around (subscribed). First Blood makes me nostalgic for the time when Sylvester Stallone would take risky roles (as opposed to Rocky part 27), which John Rambo was at the time. I also recently viewed his 1981 film Nighthawks again, first time in ages it was very good, ripe for rediscovery. Great supporting cast, Rutger Hauer, Billy Dee Williams, Joe Spinnell, Nigel Davenport. I recommend it unreservedly. Cheers Captain Tinney.

Vietnam Vets were the most hated people in America at that time. Anti War sentiment was huge, I mean they were spit on and protested against from the moment they stepped off the plane and got back home. Called baby killers, and rapists. They got treated like trash, when most of them were forced to go to war in the first place. Also, American law enforcement is almost ALWAYS giving disgusting treatment to anybody who seems like they are homeless. They dump out their possessions on the ground and take away their carts, they burn their tents and ramshackle houses to the ground, all the time. Rambo is just another example of how the US government and her entities treat everyday Citizens every day.

Vietnam was very unpopular in the U.S. because many Americans felt that our soldiers shouldn't have been there in the first place and the majority of the blame was placed on our soldiers but most of them were doing what their commander in chief wanted them to do because they were drafted. Brian Dennehy who played "Will Teasle" that arrested Stallone (Rambo) for no good reason was a Veteran of the Korean War which was known as "The Forgotten War" was upset because off all of the attention that the Vietnam Veterans were receiving so it was personal to him and couldn't let it go even though he had chances to walk away. It's better now but still far from perfect for many Veterans as there have been more Wars since then like The Gulf War and Afghanistan but now the U.S. is facing problems with Antisemistism and Extremism so things have changed but they haven't.

Rambo 1-3, Rocky 1-4, Over the Top, Demolition Man and if you havent seen I would highly recommend "Assassins" thats one of his best movies in my opinion.
Other movies you should watch are Shutter Island, Inception, Shawshank Redemption, Falling Down, Trading Places, Cube, Back to the Future 1-3, Indiana Jones 1-3, Karate Kid 1 (1984), Ninja in the Dragons Den (best martial arts movie IMO), No Retreat no Surrender (but not the extended version, the scenes are horrible and dont add anything), Drunken Master (Jackie Chan), Bloodsport, Silence of the Lambs, Jurassic Park 1-3 and
Ben Hur (1959) and Spartacus (1960) are a must watch IMO (and "Clash of the Titans (1981)" was one of my favorites as kid but I wouldnt say its a must watch like Ben Hur or Spartacus).
Wish you luck with your channel, God bless.

You should definitely watch part II & III for sure. The US involvement in the Vietnam War was quite controversial. Unfortunately a lot of that anti-war sentiment ended up directed at the soldiers, many who were conscripts. It was not a "popular war" like WWII and as it dragged on and on the public turned against it.

Watch ALL the Rambo movies, 2 is Vietnam 80s action perfection, 3 is 80s action perfection with more Col. Trautman in Afghanistan during a specific time when Russia threatened tribal territory, Rambo joins the Taliban shhh, #4 (my 2nd favorite) realistically violent brutal rescue thriller during modern day atrocities in Burma Myanmar, book end for Rambo's story, 5 is a tight lil razor sharp gloriously dark grizzly kidnap revenge thriller Taken meets hard R Home Alone, also check out all the Rocky movies, Cliffhanger, Copland, Demolition Man, and guilty pleasures Day Light, and Tango & Cash

Veterans of the 1960s to 1990s were & are treated like shit in America. America treats its Veterans overall any time period exception of WW2 & a short period after Iraq, Afghanistan were treated better but never on par. As for benefits you have to fight for them & hope your part of the 40% or less that ever get at all. According to what Era depends on what you get if anything. Myself being a proud veteran & majority of one's I know I can tell u we have a bad taste of how poor we are thought of in America & this is just the short version.
