I used the Proton VPN. For the first seven days it was great. Then there was an abrupt change and from that point on it would only connect through Japan (I was in the USA). There was also a noticeable decline in how well it functioned. I uninstalled the VPN and proton drive. I still have the email which I have no complaints about but I've not really used it, I have so many email addresses already. I would feel better about them if they had just said it was a seven day trial. I'll consider them again if for some reason I need a different VPN again.

Hi Liron, just tried the free Proton VPN on my Windows Laptop, looking good.. except on your video you show you accessing Netflix via the VPN and it played.. well of course it did, it selected a USA server, so it would play it.. I'm in the UK and it selected the Netherlands, I clicked on Netflix and it didn't recognise my account logon!
I disconnected from the VPN and checked Netflix and all works fine... so it won't let you use streaming services like Netflix unless you pay!

As far as I'm aware from the reddit pages that focus on this stuff, there are no reputable free VPN's for torrenting. They recommend to try and look for direct download links as an alternative.

Do you know if any of the ones that let you stream, also let you cast to a smart tv? We used Surfshark when we were in Iceland and while we could stream on the phone, it blocked casting to the smart tv and no one wanted to watch shows on a phone. Thanks for sharing this!!

    • @LironSegev

casting to a tv isn't done by the vpn, it is handled by the computer or the phone. On my smartTV I have a vpn app installed and it works fine so that it can work independently of any device
