    I have this machine - I upgraded from an Elna, which was my first and I quite liked it. I love my Singer. It has wonderful features which I would NEVER go without again. The biggest to me is the ability to move the needle, which the Elna didn't have. I also love the stitches, I don't use them very often but when I do, I always wonder why I don't use them more often. I'm with you about the backstitch. My Elna had a lever, which I much prefer, but apart from that, I am so happy with my Singer 6805 and can't see me changing for many years to come.

    Thanks for your review. I am hoping that I can find one of these used. My daughter is finishing year 12, and wants to work at Spotlight, and at the same time start her own business, designing and creating short runs of clothing. She has been using my wife's old sewing machine, and this machine looks like a great step up for her, and something that will last. I appreciate your effort in sharing your review.

      How lovely of you to be looking into machines with her!
      I have a friend who is getting back into sewing and she agreed that this would last her, and allow her to tackle everything she wants to make. Also the frequent 50% off machine sales at spotlight come in handy! Mine has definitely had many hundreds of hours sewn on it over the past 1.5 years and it’s going strong! Please come back to update me when she starts her business, I would love to follow!

    I have this one. I like the stronger motor, which the old old machines all used to have. I could swap out the motor on this one for a stronger one and then it would sew like the older all metal machines. This one is my compromise machine. I still really want a SailRite portable for heavy canvas, upholstery and leather. I don't have that kind of money. Going to test this machine out on jeans today.

    • @behindtheseamswithjess
      @behindtheseamswithjess  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t personally used leather with it, although I feel like I might have seen a video showing that? The most I have worked with is 6 layers of denim 😂 but you may be looking at a semi or full industrial machine if you plan to work with a lot of heavy textiles!

      The mist reliable and trouble free sewing machines on the market are ELNA and NECCHI brands. I have an Elna Explore 340 for 7 years now. It never fails me. It is super duper. It sews everything. Very smooth and quiet, too, esp compared to other machines. Don't buy the cheapest, bottom of the cost machine, but somewhere in between. Elnas are very affordable and best in reliability. I can vouch for that.

    I just ordered this machine (currently have three fully restored No.6 treadle machines and a No.66, but are display pieces), and am completely new to machine sewing. I am an American Revolutionary Reenactor, and want to make my own hybrid (machine sewn hidden seams, hand stitched visible seams) frocks/coats, and was curious if this machine will handle a nice, heavy wool that we use for our coats? Thanks in advance. My last sewing project was a completely hand sewn, lined, all wool regimental cloak.... never again. Haha

    • @behindtheseamswithjess
      @behindtheseamswithjess  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ohhh all that hand sewing would have been taxing! I haven’t sewn wool yet (just purchased a lovely wool cashmere blend though!) I think it would be best to test a sample of the thick fabrics you are going to work with on a demo machine if possible!

    I have the 6800 as well, I find that every now & then when I change the bobbin, the bobbin thread shows up on the top stitch. It’s super annoying. I adjust the tension & everything else, but nothing works. I bought this machine because my arm was getting tired of turning the hand wheel on my old machine & needed one for heavier fabrics. When this machine is working good, it’s really good, but some days I just wanna throw it out the window.

    • @behindtheseamswithjess
      @behindtheseamswithjess  ปีที่แล้ว

      How strange! Have you looked at adjusting the bobbin tension? It’s a bit tedious but not difficult (videos on TH-cam show how) but it may be that your top thread tension is ok and your bobbin tension is off? I remember adjusting my bobbin tension once trying to use some shirring elastic and it helped!
