I got to meet Luther briefly many years ago. He was a character in the film Meteor Man. I was the standby medic on the set one night. Although the meeting was only for like 2 mins. he was very gracious and personable. I already enjoyed his music, but after seeing that he wasn't your typical arrogant Hollywood type, I enjoyed his music even more. His secret doesn't mean a thing. And his music lives on.

He delivered an a musical artistry which I and millions more enjoyed and will forever enjoy. I respect people who want a private life and he had not been using nothing of mine or trying to force issue around his sexuality on me. I met Luther in early 2000 at Block Bluster it was an honor to shocked his hand and get an autograph. Dance with my father I never understood the song until my father died.
It came out right when our grandfather passed. I couldn't listen to it without boo-hooing. My aunts were worse, because he and granny still went dancing in their 80's
It came out when my dad died. I cried like a baby still do, my father and step-father are both gone.
I met him in 1989 he was slightly reserved but cordial.
It was his life. No one is "whispering" his sexuality was nothing to be ashamed of and had nothing to do with his music apart from a sadness that made his voice and songs touch the lives of millions. He was respectful and discreet why would anyone tarnish this. RIP Luther.
