You know Uso Ron, when I was younger, my dad will not let us go anywhere. Growing up in Samoa, he wouldn't even let us go to our own uncles aunts houses during the daytime much less night time. My dad passed away and I've always hated him as a kid for it. But I'm thankful because he knew something that I was oblivious to as a kid and now Im thankful he did what he did

As a Hawaiian, many of my uncles were molested in the 60’s and 70’s, all lived fucked up lives. One recently went to jail for molesting my child cousin. And I was molested as a child and deal with trauma silently as a married man. I can’t remember it all. I’m also a convicted felon myself, and the doctors say I’m bipolar. I hope we can all find peace and break this cycle
    *update*
Thanks for all the kind reply’s, but I have yet to seek out therapy or find peace. My marriage suffered and now I’m going through a divorce…

Thanks for sharing this. I'm Pakistani and we have a lot of chomos in our community that get away with it because we come from a very conservative culture and sex is a taboo as well as "respecting your elders" type of culture. Us Pakistani kids felt so lonely until we saw that the Black and White and other communities also deal with their share of chomos.
Thanks for being so brave and being able to give criticism to your own community.
I tried doing that at our Muslim spiritual camp over Memorial day weekend and a lot of older men hushed me down and said only "Catholic priests molest boys, our Muslim scholars would never" but being a victim of it myself and knowing my cousins got molested too, I know they are in denial covering up our community's dark secret.

I really respect your transparency. Was molested by my mom's boyfriend who was old enough to be her father, so he was practically old enough to be my grandfather. Many black women are speaking up about these things because there is this "keep it in the family" "hush" mentality in Black American culture too, which would be fine if the family actually dealt with it. However many times they don't. Wish you the best and healing in your journey.

    • @Lee-fw9mr
      @Lee-fw9mr ปีที่แล้ว +4

That's terrible. I'm so sorry to hear that. Dave Chappelle had a theory about abused against black women. He said white women report abusive boyfriends and husbands to the police. Asian women report them to police. But when a black woman is abused by a black man, she doesn't call the police because she knows the police will likely have a disproportionate reaction towards him since he is a black man. He could literally be murdered via police brutality. So I think the statistics of how many black people are raped, abused, molested (whether the victims be women, men, or children)... I think all of your stats are wayyyy below the TRUE stats because your hurt goes unreported moreso than other races. It's very sad.

I only learned later in our teen years. It hurt my heart so badly. I almost have survivors guilt feeling like I'm one of the few who made it out. But I also knowing all of this feel the same as him about not letting my kids have sleep overs and stuff and it scares me when it comes to dating. Like how do I make sure the man I entrust to produce offspring with doesn't carry this dark desire. I know to pray for discernment and all and I am a believe in Jesus Christ for sure but men can be so deceiving it's not even funny. I also wouldn't want my kids around their family and I know that may upset whoever they end up being but oh well. I will protect my future kids at all costs don't care who don't like me for it. I can say the one thing I remember from my childhood is my mom always always always told me to be vocal and communicate with her if anyone ever made me feel uncomfortable and as a kid I used to think she was annoying always asking me that but now I am so thankful she did. If anything it instilled in me that no one is allowed to make me feel uncomfortable and to speak up. I will make sure to do the same. Protect our babies at all costs! Quit normalizing pedos!

So true. I remember seeking advice from a respected older woman in our community, we’re both Samoan, about confronting an SA molester.
She said but it’s just how men are. I was like, no young girls have a right not to be abused. I saw the veil fall from her eyes as it hit her. I think she was also a victim and carried that around that for years, that somehow she was to blame.
But you know what, God never forgets what’s done in the dark to His little ones. My abuser died of prostate cancer.

People who don’t heal or don’t feel empowered often victimize others. It is hard to watch our loved ones try to process and transcend all the traumas they have endured. YES!!! Tongan here and I’m so relieved to see another Poly talk about this. What really infuriates me is when the old heads tell their kids not to talk about their abuse, say “It’s a curse”… so the babies don’t even get to heal-forget the pedos being brought to justice for destroying their innocence. Good thing is that there is a new generation reaching middle age and most of us would catch a case before we sit in shame and let them hurt our babies. Thank you for sharing, Uso ❤️ 🙏
EDIT: I just wanted to say, same here about how we raise our babies. My kids do not go to outsiders’ homes and only vetted kids that I also raised can be around mine or take them anywhere. It’s disgusting-the stories I could tell you of what I heard and saw and experienced growing up-it’s like it was normal. I’m glad that we are learning as a people how to heal because a LOT of us live in violence and substance abuse, depression for so long under that unhealed trauma… and the best part is that now, we know how to protect our children-our treasures. We’re moving in the right direction because we can speak of it now. Malo ❤️

I can't imagine how it feels to be violated, to have something this insidious and traumatic happen to u and somehow find the courage to tell someone and the ppl that are supposed to protect u instead shame u, punish u, and blame u for being violated. I can't imagine how confusing that must be and how deep that hurt goes. 💔 I'm sorry this happened to u. I'm sorry this happens to ANYONE. 🥺🥺🥺

Faafetai tele lava Uso; you are very brave for talking about this. I have been married to my Teine Samoa for 30 years, and have learned a lot of about the wonderful Samoan Culture (but also some of the dark sides); like Moetotolos, physical abuse, and about the subject you are speaking about today in this video. I hope the elders watch your video, but more so, the middle age people now, so they can help to prevent this from happening to future generations. We have 3 daughters, and they have never had baby sitters, or have been left alone with any family members (no matter how much we might love and trust them), because of these facts you are speaking of.
As a Palagi, I know this happens in many cultures, but I appreciate your honesty in speaking about this sad but true topic.

I think you are very brave to discuss this. I am a survivor of this in my early childhood myself. My parents handled it very poorly and I only got therapy when I went to College. And even after therapy your relationships are forever altered and you have major trust issues. It's not just a violation of your body, but also your soul. I've seen this now too in both the Samoan and Hawaiian Cultures, a lot. I would hazard a guess that at least 80% of inmates had been sexually coerced, groomed, or assaulted as children, and about that many had an absentee parent. I had massive problems learning as a little kid because my childhood was filled with anxiety, fear, shame and guilt. So I can relate. I wish for you only the best, and don't be afraid to be a truth teller. The truth is long over due. Aloha

This exact same passed down trauma unfortunately happens in the black community as well! What makes it worst is the fact that our elders are comfortable playing the victim role. Nobody wants to "EVER" talk about past family traumas, and if they do, its never to discuss it and move on and heal from it. Its to play the blame game and gossip. However, that's the only way we'll be able to heal. We can't keep it bottled up forever! Much love to you brotha!!
