All 3 b sides of Who we are, leaders and followers, shattered faith are in my top 5. Other 2 I'll nominate, struck a nerve and... Umm.... I'll go with "You"
It became some sort of a habit that I try and watch this on my birthdays. Today I'm 31. The music and the video still means the same to me as they meant several years ago when I first saw it. Ageless.
BR have a bad habit of burying some of their best work as B-sides and export-only tracks. This is easily one of my favorite post-holy trinity BR songs. The songwriting and frenetic performance are top notch. This video is great, btw. I've been watching it once in a while for at least a couple of years now.
I come back to this song and video every so often. It really affects me personally. Years ago, I once had the exact same moment when I lit a cigarette and burned a picture from heartache. So surreal to see it here. ❤
It's cold again, it looks like rain A procession of humanity, strikingly simian Saunters by, I can't explain Why it's troubling to see them so Whoa, better than who we are with mania And yearning for, and learning from Whoa, better than holiness and candy aisles Of loneliness and sweet revenge A cigarette, a memory All connections to the permanence of burning The pedestal gets in the way And cannot withstand our honest scrutiny Whoa-oh, better than who we are with mania Or standing for, or dead against Whoa-oh, better than holiness and candy aisles Of loneliness and sweet revenge Do you feel the chill of December In the rioting of spring? And are we made of something better than clay? A leap, a fight, a secret rite The lonely quest for meaning and the universe is dreaming, oh Whoa-oh, better than who we are with mania And yearning for, and learning from Whoa-oh, better than holiness and candy aisles Of loneliness and sweet revenge Whoa-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, sweet revenge
the ending to this song is one of my favorite song endings around... Greg's crooning... Brooks' little triplet drum fill... Great band great song great video.
Yep it's from process. There's one other song which, like who we are, wasn't on the europe or US release, called shattered faith (tis similarly awesome.)
This video its really great, and this song...I cannot find anyword to describe what I feel when I'm listen to... It's my favorite song...for sure!! The vocals, the guitar solo and the drumms...gee its so huge this song!! Beats me up! For songs like this one, its impossible to accept that phase "no Bad Religion song can make your life complete..."; without any, my life for sure wasn't complete!
I want you to know that i think that this is in total accordance with the tone and feeling of the song, the lyrics, the content. Especially the all in clusive macro perspective flashing imagery. It works excellently as a juxtaposition with the micro and all of our little problems that we make so big and take so personally. I have to say, i loved this so much i made my own copy so i could watch it and listen to it whenever i want. I especially love the part at the end with the black and the white fading while the world saturates with a new brilliance as our main character chooses wisely to walk away. Which, side note, for me being such a huge bad religion fan, made me feel like it was a reference to another bad religion song, walk away. :P I love this, its excellent, and i hope eight hundred thousand more people experience it. Great work.
2:00 - There are those, there are those who'd think That drastic actions will make them unique It's really all the same That no one's happy and nobody's to blame.
Just a pure,Brilliant job you did with this video. If there was a shred of Justice in this world, your tuition would be zeroed out on grounds of this little "Art-Project" alone. :) ;)
when i got into this page i though another crappy fan video ... but man your video is really really great, you should seriously think about becoming a video director, congratulations from a very grateful bad religion fan, nice art and interpretation work
What's wrong with a little polite criticism? He didn't attack the person in any way, and there is always room for improvement. For a project done by a student, I'd have to say it was pretty good. I really liked the colouring at ther end. Honestly, it was better than many of Bad Religion's videos. Quite frankly, their videos tend to suck. Their music is amazing, though, and that's much more important than a good video.
@b443556 The last line of the song is "sweet revenge", but that could clearly mean one of a million things. I think explaining the story of the video would destroy the moral ambiguity that makes it great.
For all of you who do not understand the song, it is a anti suicide sog, is is talking about talking revenge on being a mortal by not taking your own life, beucause that is the only way the system can win.
BEST BAND EVER !!!!! Such prolific lyrics.............Anyone else a bit upset at there new album? but an album like "into the unknown" is fucking genius "hippy like album" especially after such punk albums as Bad Religion and How could hell be any worse......................... God damn...................................
@SticksTheFish47 i would start with the album Suffer then Against the Grain and No Control... all BR is pretty good but any real fan has these 3 memorized.
Great video! I dislike the gun and the suicide thoughts at the end but I understand that it was the easiest way to blatantly portray the "lonely and meaningless" metaphor in a video.
Could I suggest that if you don't have the budget for true replicas of weapons, go with painted airsoft next time. The BB gun handgun is the only part of the video that really jumped out at me. Airsoft looks far more realistic and with some editing can be indistinguishable in shorter cuts. Other than that, I liked it alot!
It's cold again, it looks like rain A procession of humanity, strikingly simian Saunters by, I can't explain Why it's troubling to see them so Oh better than who we are with mania And yearning for and learning from Oh better than holiness and candy aisles Of loneliness and sweet revenge A cigarette, a memory All connections to the permanent are burning The pedestal gets in the way And cannot withstand our honest scrutiny Oh better than who we are with mania Or standing for or dead against Oh better than holiness and candy aisles Of loneliness and sweet revenge
Thats actually a nice video. There was still something that made it not like the pro music vids though. Holy crap was this amazing though. xD You should keep it up and make more. ;) You do a great job at it.
I think bad religion is the greatest band ever! If you agree, thumbs up! ;)
How was this song ever a B side? It is comfortably in my top 5 BR songs ever.. and that is an illustrious top 5!
The two best songs from Bad Religion’s best album weren’t even on the album
All 3 b sides of Who we are, leaders and followers, shattered faith are in my top 5. Other 2 I'll nominate, struck a nerve and... Umm.... I'll go with "You"
News From The Front is my favorite b side, love that song.
I don't know much about the history of foreign songs, but I like Bad Religion's songs, both old and new! From a Japanese person.
It became some sort of a habit that I try and watch this on my birthdays. Today I'm 31. The music and the video still means the same to me as they meant several years ago when I first saw it. Ageless.
thats a lovely tradition, and i may try it out. This video hits me very existentially.
BR have a bad habit of burying some of their best work as B-sides and export-only tracks. This is easily one of my favorite post-holy trinity BR songs. The songwriting and frenetic performance are top notch.

We are here, the true bad religion fans, who prefer this song to the more popular American Jesus
My goodness, how this song didnt make it to the actual albums is beyond me.
It's cold again, it looks like rain
A procession of humanity, strikingly simian
Saunters by, I can't explain
Why it's troubling to see them so
Whoa, better than who we are with mania
And yearning for, and learning from
Whoa, better than holiness and candy aisles
Of loneliness and sweet revenge
A cigarette, a memory
All connections to the permanence of burning
The pedestal gets in the way
And cannot withstand our honest scrutiny
Whoa-oh, better than who we are with mania
Or standing for, or dead against
Whoa-oh, better than holiness and candy aisles
Of loneliness and sweet revenge
Do you feel the chill of December
In the rioting of spring?
And are we made of something better than clay?
A leap, a fight, a secret rite
The lonely quest for meaning and the universe is dreaming, oh
Whoa-oh, better than who we are with mania
And yearning for, and learning from
Whoa-oh, better than holiness and candy aisles
Of loneliness and sweet revenge
Whoa-oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh, sweet revenge
This song rocks and meaningful to me....plus Brooks is the best drummer.
I ENJOY FANTASY CREATURES, THE SAFETY OF ANIMALS, THE SAFETY OF PERMANENT PLANTS.
GOD IS NOT JUST.
This along with the other BR track on punkorama 8 put me onto their legacy. I haven't looked back since.
you know it's old when there's a myspace link in the description
How can you not love them Bad Religion forever
i can"t stop playing this song,it has to be one of b.r"s greatest .oi! oi!
tHIS IS definitely the best fan-made video i´ve ever seen. congrats
I've owned this song for a few years, but all of a sudden I've been singing the chorus for the last 8 hours.
Another masterpiece from an eternal band. I love them since I started listening to their music in the 80´s.
Heard this song when I was 10. I'm 27 now and it means so much to me.

This song is a good song by Bad Religion it's one of my faves
I'd love to hear this song live.
I have just come home now from their concert here in Germany and they rocked like hell!! They have made such a great show.
Yep it's from process. There's one other song which, like who we are, wasn't on the europe or US release, called shattered faith (tis similarly awesome.)
still one of my fave Bad Religion songs - punk o rama 8 was great cos it had 2 hard to find/unreleased BR songs on it
Yeeeah. I didnt know this song. One of the best of last Bad religion work. The video is nice and deep.
@2Grobie After 20+ years of listening to Bad Religion, they've become the only band worth my time anymore
best homemade clip i've ever seen
This video its really great, and this song...I cannot find anyword to describe what I feel when I'm listen to... It's my favorite song...for sure!! The vocals, the guitar solo and the drumms...gee its so huge this song!! Beats me up!

Have you sent this to the Bad Religion dudes? I think they'd totally love it. It's amazing. And of course, the song is one of my favourites too.
That was a damn good video. You should seriously send it to Epitaph and see if it makes it onto one of their DVDs they plan on releasing for the band.
2:00 - There are those, there are those who'd think
That drastic actions will make them unique
It's really all the same
That no one's happy and nobody's to blame.
Nice feeling for the song, you uncovered the soul...so to speak
Watched the video a few times and read description after... so this isn't an official video? Its really really good!
@patrickai it is on a punk-o-rama album along with shattered faith, maybe their best song ever.
I have known this song for years now but I just realized the hawtness of the bass in the bridge.
Just a pure,Brilliant job you did with this video. If there was a shred of Justice in this world, your tuition would be zeroed out on grounds of this little "Art-Project" alone. :) ;)
Now that was what's called an Epic Pwn, thanks for that, Dave
when i got into this page i though another crappy fan video ... but man your video is really really great, you should seriously think about becoming a video director, congratulations from a very grateful bad religion fan, nice art and interpretation work

Very well done, it fit the song perfectly. I didn't see that you had made it, and thought it was a professional shot video. Great job!
that's some badass guitar riff!
@b443556 The last line of the song is "sweet revenge", but that could clearly mean one of a million things. I think explaining the story of the video would destroy the moral ambiguity that makes it great.

2:14 Universe is a great juxtaposition etc. AWESOME!!!
@Lordoftheflies234 it was a single off of one of the punk-o-ramas (i think it was #8)
piel de gallina...

Amazing editing, you did a great job on this.
For all of you who do not understand the song, it is a anti suicide sog, is is talking about talking revenge on being a mortal by not taking your own life, beucause that is the only way the system can win.
