    My husband and I worked at a farmers market selling empanadas I made from scratch. It was like a family, you're right. Lots of vendors wanted to trade, so we always went back home with organic veggies, eggs, honey, chocolate...I miss that, but not the setting up part. One day it was very windy and our tent flew. Fortunately, it didn't injure anyone but me, but it does happen so insurance is very important.

    I'm on the board of directors for our farmers market in my city and I can tell you this is no small feat. We've been around for 43 years and have 200 vendors, we run from the beginning of June until the end of September. It is a huge venture and not undertaken easily, it is however doable. My suggestion is talk to people who run a long term, successful market to avoid some of the pitfalls.

      It’s no small feat for a grower to do what he/she does… especially since most board of directors and managers are so clueless about what real work is. Been there, done that.

    So Luke fyi my yt did not notify me of this one nor the one previous. Looks like it happened to a lot of your viewers with these. Last one I got notified of was the garlic. Keep the videos coming though! You can beat the algorithm!

    You always put out such great info. Would you consider teaching how someone could become a vendor at a market and sell their homemade goods. As in the basics, and even legalities involved with food products? I make and bottle hot sauce that people really like and are buying directly from me. I’m also getting into homemade soaps, the pretty, moisturizing and scented kind. I would love to learn how to locally sell my products.

      My state of GA requires a cottage kitchen for any shelf stable products. As well as listing all ingredients in your hot sauce on the label. Look into your state’s requirements for your hot sauce. That sounds delicious too!

    As an artist who sells at events, THANK YOU for mentioning the MLM! I know a lot of people run them, but it's so frustrating to compete with non-handmade or non-artist-created vendors. I remember I did a craft show once, and I was excited to see the artistry in the area. Only me and one other person were actual artists. Every table was an MLM, from jewelry to vitamin drinks. I was so disheartened and no one made any money at that show.

    I was so looking forward to all of the parts of this series, as it appears to be well thought out and broken down into easily understood sections. Lately I've been trying to learn about raising quail, and haven't been visiting my usual gardening channels. I just don't have time to view every video from every channel I'm subscribed, within a day or two of them being released. Sorry to see this series left unfinished.

    No kidding! I have driven by that market all summer and haven't had a chance to stop by! I did not realize that Summer Thyme market was started by you! I will have to make a point of stopping by next summer. Looking forward to the new building, it's only a few minutes drive from me! Best of luck Luke!

    You do not "file" to be a sole proprietorship. You are automatically a sole proprietor by conducting business. A sole proprietor is a person doing business with no liability protection in place. Operating any business without liability protection is pure folly.

    • @JustCallMeInsane
      @JustCallMeInsane 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In MI you have to file. It's different in all states.

    • @busker153
      @busker153 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JustCallMeInsane Sorry, but there is no state in all fifty that has anything in place to form a sole proprietorship. If you buy a book dealing with legal business structures you will learn this.
      States may have a way to "register" a sole proprietorship for a variety of reasons, but that does not form one. Simply doing business automatically forms one. Of course, I would never recommend that anyone operate as a sole proprietorship, as it is the second worst form of business structure in existence.

    • @JustCallMeInsane
      @JustCallMeInsane 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@busker153 I literally have a form for MI. You register your business and business type. You cant just run a business without registering it. Most states wont like that. It may not be "creating" a sole prop, but you are filing your business as one to get your license, etc.

    • @busker153
      @busker153 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JustCallMeInsane Filing a form saying what business type you already are, and forming that business type, are two different things.
      Merely conducting business of any kind automatically forms a sole proprietorship.
      Getting a business license is another thing altogether. But that has nothing to do with business entity formation, either. Generally, it has more to do with the municipality raising money through unnecessary fees! LOL
