This housing project, Norris Ridge, is now abandoned, the entrances blocked and the residents have been relocated to a new apartment complex several blocks away. Some notable people have actually come from the “hood” area around these apartments. These include Spartanburg’s newly appointed fire chief and Kitty Black Perkins who was chief designer of dolls for the Mattel Corp for many years and who designed the first black Barbie doll.
Thanks for sharing! I filmed this video last year, and I heard it was going to be closed and residents will be relocated. Didn't know it already happened.
The apartments shown at the beginning of the video are now abandoned, and access has been blocked. The residents have been relocated to a new complex several blocks away. Although the Highland ares is typically thought of as a “hood” , it has produced some notable people, including Spartanburg’s newly appointed fire chief and Kitty Black Perkins who for years was the chief designer of dolls for the Mattel Corp and designed the first black Barbie doll. The new baseball stadium under construction 2 blocks from Highland may bring it some economic benefit , and there are plans for a walking/ biking trail along a creek that runs along the edge of the Highland neighborhood.
You missed so many spots man , and green street and etc is not that active anymore , you should’ve hit the new highland(Robert smalls) and USA(una,Saxon,Arcadia) it’s also a lot of hood apartments here and there ! Google don’t tell you much
I filmed this last year, and this was one of the first hood tours I did so I wasn't taking them too seriously at this point. If I ever come back, I'll have to be more thorough. But so true, Google isn't usually the answer to finding the most hood parts to every city. Gotta do a little bit more digging than that.
@@infinite.destinations if you skip to 4:03 in my recent video , I featured two neighborhoods in there and its history , more on the city of Spartanburg coming soon
Those projects look crazy 😮
I agree. I think they're gonna be shut down and move everyone out eventually.

Thanks a ton!
Long before the Marshall Tucker Band, Spartanburg was also the birthplace of the song “Amazing Grace.”
