    It's actually fitting that John Tavares has an anti-5G WIFI amulet because that man skates slower than a dial-up modem you used back in 2005.

    I think Johnny T has gotta come off the first power play unit. Might be better to have Matty Knies as a net front presence. The power play is anemic

    • @darcys842
      @darcys842 7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

      I definitely do agree the powerplay needs to change, but idk if Tavares being moved is the choice. For one, his main problem is speed, which considering on pp he sits in front of the net and screens isn't a major problem. The second is that he's the center, if you put knies in then matthews has to take the face off, and that means he can't be setup off the face off. It's not always what they do but more often then not on the pp when they win it back to matthews on the one timer it goes in. I think personally they need to just fully change it up, put marner and Nylander on 2nd pp, give robertson and mcmann some time on pp1, see if it works. If it don't, try something else. Its the start of the season, but we need to figure this out sooner rather than later so we don't got 1/30 or whatever it was again

      @@darcys842 Might be a good call to spread the core 4 out between the units... PP2 unit is nothing but total scraps. just an absolute hodge podge of players

      @@Outta-hz1ej honestly. Like I love the talent we have for depth scoring, but it feels like the powerplay is set specifically for the pp1 guys, so when the pp2 guys come they try to do the same thing but they don't have the tools or chemistry to do anything. We should either split the pp1 and make it so we have two equally good pps or we need to get specific set plays that the pp2 guys can consistently do. Either way it needs work and I'm hoping berube can do it

    • @stevendchu
      @stevendchu 7 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@darcys842
      JT's decline correlates with the PP's decline in the last 2 years tbh. His speed is a huge issue on entries because for some reason they insist on passing it to him at the blue line. Before he could at least win board battles and let the team set up, that's going with age.
      The second biggest issue for me is you have three guys (16, 34, 88) who want to play on the wall, so nobody wants to play the bumper position which messes up the structure.
      With the 1-3-1 you have clear passing options, while for the Leafs it seems to be just move around and hope a 40-goal scorer gets open for a one-timer

    • @darcys842
      @darcys842 6 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@stevendchu all your points are fair, but still I think that just means they need to change how they go about the pp, hes the best face off taker we got which is the main reason hes still on the pp1. If u take him off of pp1 you either need to put someone else who can take face off in, in which case they will always be worse then Tavares is, or you have matthews do it meaning he won't be able to get the immediate one timers that when they happen work pretty well. Which is why I suggest just splitting up the pp1, they are already experimenting with having rielly on pp2 so why not try having Nylander on pp2 and have robertson or mcmann in his spot, both of them can win board battles and play bumper, and it allows Nylander to fill the much needed role of having a star on pp2. Alternatively you can have marner on pp2 who pretty much fills the same role. Idk who exactly would replace him, of course mcmann or knies would be good, but I could see domi taking it too, since they both are playmakers. Anyways, what I'm getting at is there is more than just replacing Tavares that could get the pp going, and I think just getting him on pp2 and calling it a day would do more harm than good

    That's why teams with elite goaltending have won Stanley Cup past 7 or so years
    Edit - I wrote goaltending, not goaltender. Binner was elite in that 2019 run if you watched every Blues game, and Hill had a .932 playoffs save percentage when Vegas won Stanley Cup. And Binner has single handedly won Blues so many games with trash defense in front of him past couple years.

Dude. You can't have it both ways. You just ripped the Leafs for not cashing in on broken plays, and scrambling around the net...right after deeming this same exact kind of scenario as 'cheap' or completely lucky because it went against your team. Normally, I really like your commentary and think you're making valid points but this some serious homer googles and it comes off pretty bitter. It's frankly not a great look.

      I think you misunderstood. When Steve dismissed it, it wasn't because it was a bad goal or didn't deserve to count on the score sheet, because he wasn't doing commentary about the Rangers. He was evaluating the goal as a lesson for the Leafs.
      I think you and I could agree that Steve could have highlighted the goal as the kind of thing the Leafs need to get good at - taking advantage of random events to get the greasy goals. But, in this case, I think he was specifically looking for commentary on the Leafs defensive play and finding no meat on the bone, and so dismissed it.
      Lest we forget, he acknowledged on the podcast how Leafy it is to start the Cup parade planning because getting shut out on their first game hasn't happened since 1967, and the guy who got their first goal wears 67, so.... he's still a Leafs fan lol

    Reilly - Pbbbllt - when can we admit he is below average in his own end and has taken a step back offensively?

    Reffing - when are we going to have the talk? These guys are so transparent. We know exactly how they feel about how they are going to call the game vs one of the teams. I am sniffing more and more stink.

    This loss, which wasn’t as bad as the final score made it seem, was no big deal. Probably a good yardstick to measure the team by. The best goalie in hockey did a number on them, and they got flustered. Time to check in with that, re-boot themselves and go forward re-energized.
    As you pointed out, the first NYR goal was greatly assisted by the referee being out of position and blocking a good clearing attempt, and the team was playing well. But the more Igor denied them, the more they tried too hard, and screwed up.
    Good to get that out of the way, early. It won’t happen again under Berube.

    This is such a Leafs result in my opinion. This is how they compare to a great team. Because they're gonna demolish the midfield, have the occassional stinker against terrible teams, and then lose to truly great teams. You need to beat those to win the cup. And the presence in front of the net... oof marone.

  • @Jrodsly
    @Jrodsly 4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

    If they're playing the same way they did under the last coach, which is to say they refuse to get out in front and take a goalie's eyes away, they're never gonna win anything as a group. It's almost like the team needs more than a fancy new coach to consistently beat top teams. It's almost like they need a new identity on the roster as a whole, something the previous GM was gonna try and do but got fired before he could do by a guy above him that lacks the heart in the front office that he had as a player and a head of Player Safety. We'll see if Berube gets them to start playing like they should, but this is exactly what I figured would happen with virtually the same roster as last year.

    I'm starting to think that yelling *_"Just shoot the damn thing!!!!"_* and *_"Someone please... Go TO THE NET!!!"_* at the TV is a normal Leaf fan response every 15 seconds... so much so that I should probably put those on button-play to save my voice.
    *_Chief won't change anything here._* If the boys didn't listen to Keefe, they aren't going to listen to Chief. And the sad thing is, that it doesn't even matter who you bring in new to the team because instead of them listening to the coach they too just play follow-the-leader and ignore the coach, rinse and repeat each game, each season, year after year.
    Let's put it this way... *_I'll beleaf it when I see it._* We know that Keefe repeatedly told them to play the right way and to play in a way that would help them win in the playoffs, but even though they might do it for a shift or two, or a period or two, or even a game or two, the players just won't bloody well stick to it and drop their bad habits. You'd think that bringing in new players would help break that cycle, but no!!! they too pick up the bad habits of the team. It's amazing to watch from a human psychological experiment viewpoint, but otherwise painful and frustrating!!
    Boys, break the cycle! drop the bad habits! Please, for the love of the hockey gods, crash the net (they did it multiple times to us and even knocked down our goalie with no penalty).
    Oh and, can we finally now agree that it's time for Moe to go (saves a lot of money, too!)? If he's still playing like this with Tanev as his line mate, then nothing is ever going to change him making decisions (or lack thereof!) that lead to goals against!

    The attitude problem is real, that's so on point. The thing with that is that it makes question putting the C on 34 even more. Best player, no question. Best captain? Heck no. Berube needs a guy on the inside, a driver of effort. That's not Matthews.

      @@saskk2290 Not saying Matthews effort isn't fine, just saying I doubt he's the captain the Leafs need right now. I'm not in that dressing room so I don't know, maybe 34 has grown. But Nylander saying "F-----' shoot it. Stop f-----' cryin', bro. This is the f-----' issue. You guys f-----' b---- about s---. Let's f-----' go!" indicates to me that maybe pinning the C on the best player instead of the best captain is the wrong move. I honestly don't know who would be better tho. If Reaves played a bigger role in the ice I think he would be more in line with what's needed from a captain right now. Might be a hot take, it is what it is. Either way, I'm more hopeful for the Leafs than I've been in a long while.

    For me, its only game 5... they are 3-2... they actually played a really good game, out shooting and out-chancing the Rangers by a LOT and just got robbed, like, absolute highway robbery by Shesterkin. Stolarz was amazing, when your goalie is regularly only allowing 2 goals with a .927 save % you are going to win 60 games a year. This was just one of those nights where nothing goes your way, its a long season, its gonna happen. They need get get Tavares off PP1 and replace him with Knies or McMann for a big netfront presence. For Tavares, he's now a 3rd line player and PP specialist, you dont pay guys like that more then 3-4M a year, even with his current play, I think Tre would be comfortable extending him 4 years at 3m.

    Its pretty easy to see that the Rangers are a better balanced team ,probably 10-12 points better over 82 games .Toronto is still in that 2nd level and somewhere around 8th to 10th league wide but they are pretty far away from being a serious threat to win it all until they have a top 5 goaltender that can win those 3-2 and 2-1 games in the semis or the finals .
