I'm halfway through Philosophy of sailing. Its wonderful. I came for the adventure but the dry humor and cutting self deprecation really caught me off guard. You're quite hilarious.
The audio books are best. Terrific performances by the author.

I always wanted to sail, at 50 years old, damaged and retired from the army, i forgot about that passion, thinking i was to old and that it was out of reach.
You inspired me to do it, my doctors says i would be good for my PTSD.
You sow, you cook, you wear pink pants ! you know how to use the internet ... you kick ass ! all my respect to you and sorry for those asses !

I'm on crutches and use a wheelchair at times, I feel trapped at times and it's great to see you in the sun and on the waters! 😄🌞🏝🏞

My 30 foot keeler sits patiently on her mooring, waiting, waiting.... I on the other hand am practising patience. Us humans are better at practising. It allows us to remember. No boating allowed here in New Zealand but I’m lucky cause I can still go sailing thro’ TH-cam. This was not possible that long ago. At least we can be thankful for that. Now on the other side of the "great isolation" I am so glad I did not see this video before now out of the grief of hearing, "for the duration". Thank you for this wonderful informative and inspirational channel, Christian. I began sailing at 62 through OCC school of Sailing and Seamanship. I thought I was too old a female and called to cancel my course with that feeble excuse when the woman answering the phone said, "What the heck, I'm 67, get in here."
I sailed lake Ontario on a Catalina 30 for many years. Sadly at 72 for health reasons had to stop. I love your trips and your humor
You are living my dream Mr. Williams. We are the same age but I’m not there yet. In two more years, God willing, I will leave my home to my family and buy my dream boat as well.

As well as your message, it is wonderful to read all the supporting comments. Like everyone here, I love my boat and I am fortunate to be living in British Columbia. We are encouraged to get out for the exercise, fresh air and food for our souls.

Thank you for your content. I have a Nordic Folkboat in San Francisco Bay and enjoy racing. The Coast Guard canceled all permits for racing in 2020. A few exceptions have been allowed for single-handed racing, or racing with members of one's family with whom you live. I'm hoping with the onset of vaccinations that we will obtain sufficient herd immunity that we can begin racing again. We are allowed to sail, exercise outside and other such activities here in NorCal. Stay safe and keep posting.
I love these videos. They are very helpful and encouraging. I'm 57 and quite frankly sick of it all. I'm seriously considering selling everything, getting a boat and going....well...who knows where. Maybe Alaska, then to Hawaii. Guess I better learn how to sail first though. Could be dangerous.

Hi Christian, I've developed an interest in sailing after watching your videos. My wife isn't as excited as I am just yet. Especially about being alone with me in the middle of an ocean trying to figure out what all the tangled lines are for. There's so much to learn about sailing and I appreciate the way in which you focus on what's important. Thanks! When the weather and Covid conditions improve here in Germany, I plan on taking my first sailing lessons. On a Jolle, at first, which is German for Dinghy, before I move up to something bigger.

Live on my Morgan 41 here in Bermuda. We are now under 24 hour curfew and all boats have to remain at their moorings. Glad to see someone out sailing. Stay safe and look forward to your videos, Sir.

A true inspiration you are, Christian. Thank you. I'm in Michigan and our Gov. just extended the Stay At Home order through 4/30 and in that extension also ordered all "motorized boating" banned for the duration. However, kayaks, canoes and SAILBOATS are allowed. I am fortunate to have all of the above so rather than lament my loss I will just wait for things to warm a little and hoist a sail. You do such a wonderful job with your videos and I consider myself graced by your efforts. Keep it up sir.
God has blessed you with a wonderful life, starting as a boy, what a treat, I would have loved to have had the adventure of being a true sailor...I’m sure the rant on the covid that I couldn’t hear was laced with profanity and still hanging somewhere over the mid-Atlantic impressing the whales.
There was a time where I longed to expat to another country. Your videos are an inspiration knowing that I can learn to sail and explore a world outside!

The Marina is not closed, but all facilities are. Most people living at the Marina are welcome and kinda walk the gray path of rules. The members are welcome but only for working on their boat. This is the situation at my Marina in the Netherlands. I am prepping my boat but i don't think i'm going to go out there and maybe put Resque services at risk, just because i want to go sailing.

I am heart broken knowing that the boats must all be tied up for now. For sure if there were hundreds out sailing and not just one or two the statistical reality that trouble could occur and put first responders at risk makes good policy sense. Now that you are grounded I feel all the more alone and stranded in my four walled box. Knowing you were out there helped me breathe a little deeper. Bet there are some boat projects you could do and share that could help me pass my time. So thankful for social media; FaceTime, Zoom, email, texting. So thankful for those like you who use it well. Be safe. We’re both in that “high risk” category. You are a precious resource and many don’t want to lose you. Book reviews...I like those too. ❤️
What a delicious day you have there in San Diego for a terrific sail: such blue waters and clean air derived from diminished human activity. Your Viieyard Red trousers, your dry wit, and doughy spirit hopefully is enough to initiate a rout against the SARS2- Covid 19 virus. You certainly have boosted my immune system with your hearty video message, and I have quarantined myself due to very real "vulnerabilities" since March 5th here in Colorado. Thank you for the boost! I will trust that we will hear from your salty direction sooner than not at ccx all, I shall hope. Thanks for those cerulean blue waters your video celebrates. I very much enjoy your videos. I particularly appreciate your sense of process and order and focus. A well organized boat deck is a thing of beauty. When I was a teenager I was lucky to race sunfish and crew on some larger boats. I think I enjoyed the technical aspects of rigging a sailboat and the fundamentals of maneuvering the boat more than anything. You explain the processes very well. I always took pride in being well organized and keeping my boats in excellent condition. I think you and I would get along very well.
self isolation ,,, wow the pandemic hasn`t bothered me one bit as i just dont like being around other people ,,, I go bush in my RV a 32 foot winnebago or hit the water in flapper a contessa 32 ,,, either way I love being alone ,,,,great vid Christian Keep them coming ,

Here in Sweden, we have no sailing restriccions yet. But we still have to put the boat on the water. It has been too cold to get her ready from winterizing. Hopefully she'll be in soon.

Christian what you were about to say "... I don't think so, we have to use common sense..." is absolutely right. The world has gone safety mad, fuelled by social media, news outlets desperate for 24 hour news and politicians scared of everything. We must realise that only a tiny proportion of the world's population will be fatally affected (less than 0.005 percent in fact based on current rates). There is a huge different between being alive and living... thanks as always for your videos.

We live in SWFL. SO far no restrictions on taking the sail boat out. However, travel seems limited in terms of overnight stays at marina's for itinerant sailors.
I am very envious. While I did get in a good bike ride, getting on the water here in the Chesapeake would be ideal. Loved the comment about the expiration date.
It is nice not seeing and hearing all these jets overhead. You know, I actually believe the air smells a lot cleaner. Good Luck Christian, we will catch you on the other side of this thing..!
I don’t think you are endangering the common good, and hope you can continue. When I solo sail I find it to me the most “alone together” time to think and admit listen to many times great authors . I hope as our season approaches I can be in the water this may.

"jalapeño cheddar...substance", hah. Recently read Philosophy of Sailing and Alone Together, funny and even educational! I'm a novice sailor and a stupid engineer who scoffed at philosophy when younger. Now, I've dogeared pages to go back to for reference and to add some classics to my collection while poking around on my first boat. So, thank you for taking the time to write these books!

This breaks my heart just a little bit more. Thanks for sailing for us all one more time. One of the few pleasures left was to go to my boat. I hope that I can at least do that for a while longer. I'm in the Bay Area. I wonder if they will close our access as well.

I am retired and I just want to sit on or in it. Wash the decks, vacuum below decks or do a little job onboard. It's my relaxation in life. It is my other life. Outside on the water, in the sun and the breeze. Even if I am watching TV or surfing the web onboard it's still my escape haven. Loving the San Francisco Bay Area. Our Yacht Club is closed, nobody to hang out with. We miss all our friends. Can't wait for this to end,

@@GPSJayDog22 We got a "new to us" boat last June. We we're scheduled to go to Napa, haul out and do a list of repairs. All on hold now. We miss our lifestyle terribly. Comfort in knowing even Christian Williams is on hold also. Along with the rest of the world.
Hoping to haul in Napa this summer, if I can finish up the pre-projects between now and then. My marina (not naming it here) seems pretty low-key with us being in our boats...
Christian, thank you for taking me out! My Ericson is locked in a boat yard with no hope of doing the spring commissioning for the foreseeable future. My gut says maybe next year.

Thanks for documenting the last ride. We are in Port Mansfield; no sailing boats on this part of the Texas coast, but the fishing boat ramps and piers have all been shut down. My Mooney, alas, was left behind in Illinois and is now undoubtedly covered in a green slime of Corona virus. Hope to see you and Tracy when the plague lifts. Til then, stiff upper....

Hi Chris. First, Than yous for great music and good cheer in latest clips. Helps in these gloomy days! Ask your opinion: how would you rate overall your Ericsson 38 as a blue-water cruiser? Question may be unfair, even unanswerable, but ask nonetheless. I'm looking for a mid '80, reasonably priced 35-to-40 footer, bluewater capable, and NOT built like a panzer tank. Not many Ericssons this side of the water, hence request for views. Many thanks in advance!
Love the video. I too went for the possible last solo sail here in Southport n.c. So far the waters are open, but they are starting to close boat ramps and fuel docks. Stay safe, and looking forward to more videos.
