About Caitlin Blue:
Hi everyone! I’m Caitlin, a millennial who owns a small business from Boston, MA! Here you'll find vlogs about how I'm building my brand Solette, life in New England, and some of my favorite products, books, and more! Be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss out on any new videos! So happy you are here!
your soaps always look stunning 😍😍
Oh thank you!
So glad to hear you had some good markets. I literally said oh no out loud when I saw the rain footage lol! I've also been on the grind and have been able to get my products into two (and hopefully about to be three) stores !
Oh my gosh congrats on the wholesale accounts!! Woohoo!!
You are not alone, my friend. I’m putting a halt on events for now because I was tired of being so discouraged all the time. And I heard it from fellow vendors at the events. And friends who are vendors. I’m in tons of vendor Facebook groups, and it’s all that’s being talked about. I work in a retail store full of small businesses and sales are down there too. You are noooot doing anything wrong!!! It’s just tough everywhere right now unfortunately :( thank you for sharing your life and your experiences with us, it’s always encouraging to see you smiling through it all!!! 🫶🏻
Thank you for this information and your perspective, it sounds like we are all in the same boat which is sad but also a little comforting. I hope this all turns around for all of us soon because it would be so sad to see small businesses close.
I can relate. Since covid markets have not been 100% the same for small businesses. I'm in CT and just did an event last weekend in RI that we all thought would be amazing, but it was a very small crowd. I'm looking to ONLY do a few bigger festivals for the rest of the year because the effort put in with creating, driving and setting up isn't always worth it. Wishing you so much luck the next few weeks!
Sounds like exactly what’s happening here in MA. You’re so smart to narrow down to a few “bigger” markets. Hope you have tons of success!!!
You are a trooper for being able to set up your canopy tent by yourself! I bought one just like it(on your recommendation!), and tried to put it up myself the first time during a test run. Couldn't do it, had to call my husband outside to come help me! 😅
You’ll get the hang of it! But I have found that my market neighbors are always there to help if I need it!
I admire your set up so much! You are very inspirational! Can you tell me where you purchased those lovely candle vessels? They would be perfect for an event that I'm doing later this summer. Thanks!!!
Thank you so much! These are actually custom candles I had professionally
printed with my designs.
It’s not just you. I did a few events in spring and none were great. I think people just don’t have enough money right now
I hear you! I'm wiped out after every market.
And we aren't' even in the busy season yet!
your tent looks so easy. do you have a link to that?
Is very easy, and I’ve had this one for 6 years. It’s linked in my Amazon storefront which is in the description box!
Caitlin , you are a trooper! You are inspiring us to keep going. Please let me know is there a reason you don’t take Venmo? Thank you.
Awe thank you so much, I’m honored you find my videos inspiring. I just never used Venmo…and then I read that they’re changing their fees for businesses and services so I just prefer to take everything through my shopify at events.
@@caitlinblue You are welcome. That makes sense with Venmo, anyway building your website using it is way better than 3rd parties. Have a great weekend ahead.
Its not you, major corporations that have been in business for decades are shutting down, its the economy. I am use to buying what I want but lately I have been having to watch what I spend. Things have gone up in price so much its wrong.
I love your products especially your bars of soaps. Looking forward to more scents coming back to the bar soaps. ❤
Hey Caitlyn, I wanted to ask you.. you said you made 3 times your booth fee but it wasn’t a good market.. what is the general target that you think is a good ROI?
There isn’t a hard rule or anything, I’ve heard some people say 10 times is their goal, but I think you have to factor in so many things like time, other expenses, etc.
Where did you get your blue and white table runner from? Does it have your business name on it ?
It’s from vistaprint and it’s my logo and my pattern. It’s so nice and I just washed it and it came out as good as new!
Markets are def bad lately
How much wax does that wax pot hold
I think it’s 8 pounds
@@caitlinblue I better get me one
summer is definitely tough as school is out, people staying out in longer sunlight hours and good weather, holidaying. Maybe it is expected so it is time to experiment with new products, limited editions, other products that accompany your existing products. Save money for quiet times. When I worked in retail the only busy season was Christmas. What we made in sales that Christmas would dictate the budget and how many staff they can employ during the quite remainder of the year. Very odd but it is how retail is.
Summer was always my best time (besides holiday) because in New England people are desperate to be outside from the long winters, but it seems like preferences are changing. Live your suggestions though!
It's the economy.
Yes that’s a huge reason, but sales at other major retailers like Amazon, TJ Maxx, and Sephora have never been better…consumer preferences are absolutely shifting and we have to pivot!
Omg you need to invest in a multibar cutter. That will save you so much time.
I know I know!! It’s on my list!
this looks wonderfuf - can you share where you got the colapsable displays - and I am in retail ( store) there is a retail recession on now - it is much slower so it is not you or your product it is the economy - hang in there it will change but probably not until next year sadly
Thank you for the encouragement!! All my shelves are from Amazon actually and I linked them in my store. You should be able to click the link in the description box to get the exact style/brand I have!
thank you so very much !
Markets here have been the same. I think it's just economic times.
Sadly I think you’re right. I’m just happy if I can keep getting out there!
