When I was younger, I had a belief that god was out there. And I realized as I got older that there's no legit evidence to back up the claim that god ever existed. I thought it was a conservative idea that you put your money where your mouth is and if you don't like what some actor might say about politics it is your right to decide I'm not going to support this guy or gal financially. Robert Duvall is a well known conservative actor as well as Bruce Willis and it seems to me those two get a lot of opportunity to earn a living. Hey I admire Duvall's talent even after I discovered he was a loony right winger. I've seen most of his movies since he was in that very liberal movie "To Kill A Mockingbird" with the very liberal Gregory Peck. If they think they have to meet in private they're paranoid fools because John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart and many other right wing actors in their day had no problem with spouting off about their political views . If they don't get work because of politics then I say they aren't interested in nothing more than securing their financial resources. If they deeply believe what they believe they ought to have the cajones to express them regardless the repercussions which come their way. And a liberal director, producer, or studio has very much right not to hire the bastards. Beck is a blustering fool that is truly mental ill.
Yes. I'm not saying it's good to be rude to people if their political beliefs are different from yours. But we need to put the issue in perspective and recognize that certain groups do not face as much persecution as others. When conservative actors are shunned, it's because THEY outed THEMSELVES as conservatives. This might sound insensitive, but if you know there's something about yourself that would cause people to bully you (such as watching "Sesame Street" at the age of 30, for example) - whether it's right for them to do so or not - then for God's sake DON'T SAY IT! On the other hand, liberals who were ostracized by Hollywood during the McCarthy era had both Hollywood insiders and the government snooping into their private lives. Same thing with gay people who want to remain in the closet and get exposed anyway (yes, I realize there are very few of those people left, but just suppose). If a group of people don't want to let you into their club, don't fight them. Why would you want to be among people who despised you in the first place? Form your own club!

I'd be careful about the whole "liberals are smarter" thing. Liberals can be just as dumb as conservatives. Look at some of the far left on issues like vaccination. When I think about it, it's not much different than the early 80s. Back then conservatives had a huge swing into politics. Thinking that everything they did was gold they've used the same playbook for 30+ years now. Nowadays we laugh at conservatives because they don't think about new solutions to new problems.
I think we're at the early stages of another progressive era in politics. By 2020 we'll have a big wave of politicians claiming to be liberal. We need to be careful about not making the same mistakes the conservatives did 30 years ago.

I think the most telling mental slip that Glenn Beck made in his rant was when he started rambling about being "a pariah". He sets himself up as this HUGE strawman victim of some invisible majority that doesn't actually exist, talking ad nauseum about how he DOESN'T want to be a pariah, how it's so hard to be a christian (the ACTUAL majority) and whatnot.
The bottom line is, I think in his own mind, Glenn DOES have himself set up as this brave, tragic figure, the "lone gun" telling it like it is in a word of "religious oppression" or some BS.... Conservatives really DO have this reverse mentality of accusing opposing views of the things that they themselves are incredibly guilty of. It's insane.

As a Black man, I was not pissed off at THIS particular Beck comment per se. I am pretty much used to conservatives making comments along these lines, in particular conservative media hosts. They, daily, make us -vs- them, comments to play up to their fan base. However, if they get backlash from a particular comment, they are quick to half-apologize and claim they didn't mean what they said. Now, if there is something you truly believe, you are not going to change it simply because it may hurt your popularity and thus money. (Hell, he even distance himself, via a "medical condition", from a whole period of his comments after he got fired from Fox and his ratings started falling) Therefore this is all a dog and pony show to get ratings and sell books. However,what pisses me off is, the issues he talks about (and influences others) not only affect people's lives, but in some cases cost people their lives (like his views on police killings).
I wouldn't say liberals are smarter than conservatives. I would say they are better at critical thinking. or free thinking?? I don't think a conservative can actually do critical thinking.

My uncle who graduated with a teaching degree in the '60's who's name was LeRoy Johnson, graduated top of his class from De Paul University, got negative responses to hiis applications, until he sent a photo with his applications and they realized he was white, then he got offers. Equating people not liking you because of your beliefs to somebody not liking you because of the color of your skin is absurd. Beliefs, ideas, and positions are all things you decide to have based on your experiences and intelligence. They're things you develop and integrated into who you are as a person. Being black, brown, yellow, gay, straight, or transgender are all things that you simply are. There was no decision there.
