Nice job! Only one comment. I flew Birddogs in 1969-1970 in Vietnam as a FAC. All our Birddogs, and all I saw, had white wing tops. Made it easier to get contact and join up with fighters, as they could see you better.
Yes, O2 all had white wing tops too. We called them “Skypigs”. They replaced us, we went to Pleiku and Ban Me Thout. We made a stencil of a pig, and, fortified by strong drink, drove down to flt line and painted it on the O2. Great reaction by O2 driver.
when i was flying it the name was L-19. I flew one from Sana Monica California to Ft. Hood Texas. A long way at 87 knots across a lot of empty country.
Thank you! This wasn't the nicest or easiest kit but does look like a bird dog in the end. If the clear plastic was better I would of spent more time detailing it.
Good video about the way of the build and a cool and very nice result in the end. Great paintwork and a great model. Best wishes and a nice weekend. Joachim
Nice work! The O-1 Bird Dog is like the little brother to the Cessna 180, I have that old Monogram kit with pontoons and thought it'd be neat to paint it up as a US navy bird but what would the navy need with a 180 Skywagon? Observation? Liasson transport? Quick delivery of certain small items needed at critical areas? All those things. Happy modeling.
The bird dog came out brilliant Floki! Fantastic job done on it. Nicely recorded video also, it is difficult to build and have a camera on the way, that's why i tell this. Thanks for sharing, take care and keep up the good work my friend.
Thank you so much. I've tried different angles, off to the side, straight above but the best spot is directly in front right in your way. Trying to do some things by looking through the camera screen or leaning around it hopefully not blocking the camera with your head. Thank you again for watching and take care.
Excelent video with good tips. The modeI looks very good, great job. I´m going to build the same model by Roden but in 1/32 scale. Keep the good job . Greetings from Portugal 😉👍
Great build Floki! The Bird Dog turned out really nice my friend. Roden has fantastic subjects in their line up, but their engineering is crap. You've really pulled this one together!! Thanks for sharing, looking forward to your next build. Model on!
Really enjoyed the build Floki. I'm currently reading "Sock it to 'em Baby" by Garry Cooper/Robert Hillier, so I had to go out and buy a Bird Dog. I'll certainly be using your tips in my build. What is that printer thing you used for the decal masks you made?
Thank you! That is a Silhouette Portrait cutter. It has a small blade in it and cuts through vinyl very easily. I got another video on my channel going into more detail on how I use it.
Also, top anti collision beacon sits in a little bowl like structure, so fighters could see you, enemy on ground could not. Really not important, as we never flew at night unless it was an emergency operation. You had ability to turn lower beacon off.

Thank you for the information! I do have another one of these in the stash to build and a skymaster FAC too, did they also have white wing tops?

@@Strattonlad1946 Thank you again for the info! That's a great story too.

That would be a very long flight. My dad was stationed at Ft. Hood
Great work ! I havent built a Roden kit but hear they can be tricky.

@@FlokisModels Lol, just in the way works for me as well. Of course and it has to be on the worst spot...
You did good!

Thank you! You are so correct the engineering on this kit is very bad.
Very nice

I wish I would of done a bit more research on this now beforehand and not just take the kits color callouts for granted.
One of the worst models I ever tried to build. Poor quality. Got so discouraged I gave up.
This was the worst fitting kit I ever built. I’ve sworn never to build another Roden kit
