What is so valuable about TH-cam is that it shines a light on musical geniuses like Monk, simply by providing wonderful examples like this. This often introduces them to a new generation, ensuring their immortality!
OMGOD MAN! How Beautifuly said, Yes!
Haha! ( well, I'm a Genius Junkie) I Like You!
my 2 year old son approves this message, cheers!
Even to older people like me who haven't really been familiar with his work.
Truth!
Monk's Dream was among my first LP order from Columbia Record Cub my first year in college, 1962. 60 years later, his music is still fresh, awake, alive, still revealing new hidden gems--
ahh record clubs - mine was Giant Steps
And it will stay fresh as long as humanity lives and keeps its sense of art.
Incredible musicians- beautiful sound , a brilliant corner buy-the CD support the artist
He is the music. From his heart to us. All joy.
Charlie is so calm and centered throughout Monk's tempest. Beautiful.
...anyone who recognizes genius and the best of the best... hail thelonius monk...!
42 mins in everybody is checking the personnel for the drummer - Ben Riley droppin' bombs!
Ha Ha I just did that.. exactly at 42 minutes!
These drums are gonna stay with me for a long time. Perhaps THE BEST drums solos ive heard. Plus the sound of the space makes the snares pop so good
time stamp?

The man was unique even in the naming of his pieces
The music of Faso is an inexhaustible source of sweetness.
It allows us to plunge deep inside ourselves and at the same time resonate with our fellow man, Yé Lassina Coulibaly❤❤❤❤❤❤

Gift!
I love how you can hear Larry humming during his bass solos
its called scat. = ) all jazzmans do this... it is when u singing what u playing... but basicly u just playing what u singing in ur head = ). my father was great jazzman. i was study this music when i was young. telonius is one of those who create be-bop. he dizzy galaspy and charly bird parker. this 3 guys was create be-bop. = ) people nowadays dont know how great this thos guys was. basicly the greatersts. sry for english.
Well you needn't but I'm so glad you did!
I love when he "signed" his songs, like at the end of Blue Monk 23:02.
My god. The harmonies in "Evidence" are like… IDK… fresh juicy fruits, crunchy and squirting nourishing cocktail of vitamins for your soul. A weak metaphor, I know, sorry.
Rouse lettin loose on this one, so is the rest of the band. Playin with a heaviness
i remenber to play blue monk when i was learling bass as a teenager, realy nice to be able to listen it live almost 20 years after.
do you still play the bass?
the master speak to your soul...
Yes it is! I'm a bass player who just played along with another Monk tune.

I didn't know I needed this. Thank you
A genius I never understood that was really deep, but Oscar, Amad, Evens, etc I could understand.
💯 🙏🏽
Love Monk...
North Carolina master.
GRANDE DON THELONIUS
YES SIR!!!
Uma jam session extraordinária, com os músicos à vontade, tocando belíssimos solos. O piano dissonante e inovador desse Grande Mestre é arrebatador. As composições são também extraordinárias. Salve esse Gênio Sr. MONK!!
THANK YOU
Excellent performance. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you thank you thank you I do love his music
The consummate Jazz experience!
T-Monk killin it
Thelonius had a "kite" formation in his natal birth chart with the foot of the kite being Uranus in its own sign of Aquarius ♒ the planet of eccentricity, boundary-breaking and innovation...sounds about right♒🏜️🦁💎
I Love You're Comment, So Many Great People Here!
🍒😎🍒
I talked with him
Mind bending ¡!!!far out!
what 😂
Great performance.
El mejor!
this stuff really swings
Great art.
Vaya solo de charlie Rouse en "Teo"......vaya clase¡¡¡¡¡
AlhamduliAllah !!!
Listening to this reminded me that in 1965 I had "dinner," ramen noodles at Mister Henry's, ("Approved by the Bohemian Embassy") sitting next to Thelonious Monk and Bill Evans on consecutive weeks. Each of them had been playing at Maxie Bluestein's, just down the street, The Brass Rail, was it?
Just reminiscing led me to Google and Wikipedia, and then to Johnny Papalia: (Papaglia??)
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johnny_Papalia
Notes on an era.
👏
That's gotta be Monk humming along to his piano solo during Epistrophy...
Yeah, I remember hearing my mother making a similar comment about him back in the early 1970's.
Unbeatable, improvisation, jazz at its best;rendered by the king of jazz piano. "THE MONK". DOING HIS THING.BOBBYHARP.
Jean - marc thierry victorin like the music of THELONIOUS MONK .
35:17 Rhythm-A-Ning
call it ♥ . ♥
there is a lot of room for the musicians playing solo
he truly taps into something primal here. nobody rocked harder. all of them. riley's little kicks (like in I'm Getting Sentimental) are shotgun blasts. monk's 'right wrong notes' twice trace the same melody exactly the way his real heir, jean michel basquiat (currently being revealed as the greatest american painter of all time), will draw and redraw the jagged shape of the teeth and jaw of the human skull.
Ooooo, So Beautifuly Said!
I really love this shit
💕
I was there!
Amazing. For Jazz musicians that's the equivalent of saying "I was there when Newton discovered the laws of gravity, i actually saw the apple bounce off his head."
@@zivkovicable from 1961 on I went to all his appearance at the Olympia!
Holly cow !
Lucky you
Ben Riley especially hep on this set
But, Ha! I'm a Genius Junkie!❤

When TH-cam has 'real' value for society
1:02:00 the F sharp he played here in the 1964 Paris version was really nice, he should have kept that.
🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼🎼
Sometimes I wonder whether Monk is genius comedian who plays music; or a genius musician who plays comedy.
Irrelevant

Is it true that the reason that the tune is called Evidence is because its based on the chords of 'Just you just me' - which amongst those in the know was nicknamed 'just us' (justice) hence Evidence. Musician's humour.
so nice to sit back and listen without somebody trying to force-feed me their political views...
is that a usual problem listening to jazz?
@@donsurlylyte No...Exactly my point. Watching news programs, talk shows etc all seem to have a political slant. Even Sports radio is mostly political. Sorry Don for not being clearer, my bad.
Where can I get hat like that one?
I'm not sure if the fact that TH-cams algorithm identified one of the songs as another Live-performance of the song means these guys are good or bad jazz-musicians.
While some analysist might tend to wink in assenting to his genius while having no problem articulating the debth of a Picasso.
🦝❤️ 🦝 💛🦝 💚🦝 💙🦝
Love Monk, love the off-harmony and how against the grain he was back then! I do get tired of a drum solo in every song though...
thats crazy talk lol
because? You have to be stupid or ignorant of the artistic jazz brilliance of each one of the solos. Whats driving you to extract the performance of that particular instrument, the cornerstone of the piece. Are you europeanly arrogant or Africanly ignorant of the drums in jazz????
I get it.
You are a coward. Rise up and walk the roads of Chaos

HUH?
Looking for higher intelligence, there's Monk and his crew over there.
As a very precise, white musician from Florida, I had to stop listening to this music as it made me feel inadequate. ...Reported!
OK... but these drum solos...
...what's so great about utoob is that it works...
