Monk's Dream was among my first LP order from Columbia Record Cub my first year in college, 1962. 60 years later, his music is still fresh, awake, alive, still revealing new hidden gems--

Listening to this reminded me that in 1965 I had "dinner," ramen noodles at Mister Henry's, ("Approved by the Bohemian Embassy") sitting next to Thelonious Monk and Bill Evans on consecutive weeks. Each of them had been playing at Maxie Bluestein's, just down the street, The Brass Rail, was it?
Just reminiscing led me to Google and Wikipedia, and then to Johnny Papalia: (Papaglia??)

he truly taps into something primal here. nobody rocked harder. all of them. riley's little kicks (like in I'm Getting Sentimental) are shotgun blasts. monk's 'right wrong notes' twice trace the same melody exactly the way his real heir, jean michel basquiat (currently being revealed as the greatest american painter of all time), will draw and redraw the jagged shape of the teeth and jaw of the human skull.
