Sure, Elbow has had its share of sing-along hits, but this has to be their most beautiful song. The harmonies, melodies and lyrics are unbeatable. A song I always come back to from time to time.

The way this song starts with such minimalism, and builds up till we have full string arrangements with Guy's voice reciting those heartwarming and heartbreaking lyrics in high notes is just godlike. So graceful, so soft, so powerful, like waves crashing against your chest and returning slowly to the sea. I know this song might be about missing your partner, but to me, it really crushed my heart and made me think of my grandpa who passed away a few years ago. He was my partner in crime, my protector, my true father, my best friend, and the one I loved the most, in the most innocent way one can. I can't get enough of this song! I first heard it late March 2023. I shared it with my son who was struggling to create music for a college course. I hoped it would be inspirational to him. He ended up listening to the entire album before me! AND I can't remember if I have ever heard the bass played like that! Soooooo goooooood!
Best track on the album. I rarely press the repeat button on anything, but I had this on repeat most of the drive from Newcastle to Manchester to see the early show at the Ritz. And then still wanted to listen to it more on the way home. Just beautiful. Really, really hoping Elbow play this at the Newcastle gig on next year's tour.

this popped up on radio 2 a few days ago... i was taking a cancer patient to hospital for radiotheraphy treatment, he was a guy in his 30's .. this song came on and it floored us, we both had tears in our eyes.. so beautiful.

Always loved elbow so much but for whatever reason really only listened to this album the last few months, and this song immediately hit me as one of my favorite elbow songs (if not one of my favorite songs of the past decade). Such a lot of Peter Gabriel influence here and I mean that with the utmost love and respect. I am deeply moved and cannot get enough of this voice and these lyrics. Sublimely luscious.
Oh my, due to Brexit my son is preparing his "sweater made of Atacama Llama wool" and leaving for a new life in Hamburg (appropriately where the new album was recorded). "My Trouble" is he's running off with my heart and boy will I miss him. This piece of Elbow mastery couldn't have rolled into my life at a more perfect time.

I think that in fact it did start off with a recording of a toy xylophone. Guy explained it in a radio interview on radiox
