I was going through a hard time with my divorce and the death of my father a couple years ago. My big brother said “come let’s go out and cheer you up. I’ve got a spare ticket for a concert tonight come with me. Divine comedy at the london palladium” I went and had the most amazing time. Tomorrow, I bury my brother. He was more like my father. I love you brother.

This song was written about Neil Hannon's partner, Cathy Davey who is part of the team running the My Lovely Horse Rescue charity which looks after abandoned horses in Ireland.

I never used to like this band - I always thought Neil Hannon was a bit pompous... but then I saw them playing Rescue on Jools Holland. Honestly, I had to watch it at least 5 times in a row and I've never deleted it from my TV box, nor ever will. Now I'm discovering beautiful music and lyrics from the Devine Comedy that I've missed all these years. Such wonderful love songs. Certainly want to see them live.

A song and such underestimate group of the90s but can still bring out the last of real music since 2005. it’s been destroy by the digital world ,we had so much choice ,now we’ve gone to nothing.

I don’t usually comment but it’s one of my favourite songs, music for the soul. Also love the French Canadian band Harmonium and Georges Delerue Day for Night soundtrack.

I am Korean(South Korea for sure..) and I luckily had a chance to go to his concert in London on his 42nd birthday! The most memorable day in my life and I always think of the day whenever I have hard times :) I will always support this talented guy and will enjoy his songs!

Being completely new to the band, I was brought here while listening to Neil Hannon on Radio 3's 'Private Passions'. At first I listened as Mr Hannon's second choice 'Petrushka' played over it. Then I turned 'Petrushka' off. 🙂

When I was a kid no one really thought Every Kind of People was a cool record and this is one of those, classic great track
An exceptional song which continually surprises me because of 'when' it comes from. This could grace any of Neil's 90's albums, the decade when he produced heart-wrenching true beauty and almost no garbage. The rest of Foreverland, from which this song comes, is not very memorable but is a lot better than the atrocious Office Politics. I think To The Rescue is my favourite The Divine Comedy song. I didn't think he was still capable of songs this good. Perhaps he began it in the 90's?

Saw them last night in Cork, Ireland.......bloody amazing!!! They played this track and Neil announced "it's about being in love and animal rescue"!. His wife, Cathy Davey, runs a horse charity here called "My Lovely Horse"....of course! If you get the chance to see them go....you won't be disappointed!

It's about his friend who saves abused/neglected horses, but lyrics work on a few levels: could be about trying to rescue someone you love, or about our medical heroes or mountain rescue heroes.. our teachers or social workers... or more philosophically...about injustice... and even a hint of a call to revolution.

It has to be a great song when you hear it once and keep it on repeat for the whole week ! This song has some of the magic dust that fell on the Absent Friends album - in my humble opinion.Just awesome and then some.
All these years later, still always a tear at 2.22 🥲 What a truly beautiful song.
