I get what you are saying. It does sound like it's not an automatic, but the V8 S80 only came with an automatic as standard. No manual were avaliable. But I think the 6 speed manual from the same gen diesel S80 will fit on the V8.
After owning a V8 executive Volvo s80 for 7 years, I have to say this - the car was fun, but really it is probably the most power-strangled and de-tuned V8 in the world. It was fun to have, but really it's against everything that a V8 should be ))
The automatic gearbox are always terrible in Volvo's, they should have been equipped with Mercedes or ZF transmissions. This engine was the top of Volvo's car before the falldown due to chinese management and ridiculous 4 cylinders following the nice 5, 6 , 8.
315hp small block v8 4.4l the m113 in the s500l makes about the same power as the yam 4.4l so its not that bad for what it is these cars are bricks its not a 900kg honda with 300hp so its not going to move like 1 but the honda dont have volvo seats lol

No. It’s ok though. I used to drive a lifted 70 Chevy with a 350 and dual pipes, was ok. I’ve owned two boats with 351w, sound was awesome on those with marine cam and no muffler. I have also owned two 7.3 Powerstroke diesel with turbo back straight pipe. My current 7.3 came with upgraded turbo and programmer with big exhaust. Above 2500 RPM it doesn’t have an exhaust note, more like a doom siren. Those Volvos sound a little bit like a Holden or something. Definitely not bad sounding.

So far I have changed the radiator, thermostat, front and back brakes, front rotors, front driver side caliper, fuel filter, air filter, vacuum pump and solenoid, hood release cable, brand new driver and passenger headlight assembly, DVD/SAT/NAV hard drive, oil change, coolant flush, transmission fluid change. Couple of things I want to get. Genuine Volvo maf sensor and spark old plugs. What am I missing for it to pull off that fast.

It happened on my 850t5 , s80d5 and v70d5. Now my Mercedes E350cdi my2010 hhas 365 000 km and just oil cooler changed and gps knob button. It makes a big difference €€€€€ !
All are not loud most of these are running a delete cat and resonator or some similar setup. Also in case you missed the memo most old V8s are slow AF before being tuned. I have one perspective with cars and that is if it sounds like it’s fast it damn well better be, Lol.
Not sure why it would be quiet. The noise those trees make as they fall and crash........then the sound of the V8 rumbling again. Maybe the silence you would ( or wouldn't hear ) would be as the driver realises he has stripped the angle gear
nope these do a million miles and where put in alot of stuff (MOST OF IT ABUSED ANS STILL RUN got a hacked togever gen get at work still works no one has changed oil in years its kinda low its leaking the power head isnt up to the job but it isnt dieing (we want an upgrade lol the engine is fine )

In that era, Lexus targeted mainly the old people for car sales so even their healthy V8 sounds rather pathetic in stock configuration; they were selling them to people who were driving to the country club to golf or a quiet drive with the mistress to a hotel. Once you strip away all of the sound-reducing components in the exhaust system, the "ZJ" makes a beautiful snarling growl! 👍🏻

Well mine has done 330000km and has not a single problem. Service them right and take care of them and they will last a long time.
