This was a great video! I've always been obsessed with palms but today I finally fell thru the rabbit hole of palm gardening TH-cam and I'm so glad I did. Hope to get a palm going next spring
It's fun how they die back and come back! This is the first year that i am unsure if it will come back for me or not, such a long and fridgid yo-yo winter. Fingers crossed!
Smart! Even though I have this one that comes back every year, I still have my potted ones also that i bring inside, just to be safe! This year i'm particular glad i do it that way because we had -8F and the ground froze 11 inches down! So this may be the winter that kills it, fingers crossed and hoping for the best!
Tropical Plant Party That’s rough! Do your Needle Palms take that kind of cold? That looks like a good micro climate though. I had -5°F, although I’m between Lake Erie and Ontario, so it’s a little more moderate, and we get a lot of snow.
Interesting. But in Dallas Texas I don’t see any reason to grow these lol we can grow Pindo palms, Sabal palms, California fan palms, Windmill palms and they grow trunks. We can also grow ferns, cycads, bamboo etc
Thanks for the video. I also live in zone 6 and picked up 2 Chinese Fan palms which were for sale for only $19 each. 1 is indoors and 1 is planted outdoors and it is now early December and actually the one outdoors is doing better than the one indoors.
bought 4 of them for $45 each at home depot today. they are huge about 7 feet tall. I'm in zone 8a, but it freezes every year. I wonder how tall they will get over the growing season in charlotte, nc?
Hey! I'm in zone 6(st. louis) and with a lot of mulch they would usually come back around late may to early June. Originally i learned about their winter hardiness from studies done at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio where they were growing them on campus, which was also zone 6.
I think so 🤷♂️ This video is an old one and the garden has changed a lot since then. I did have day lilies over there think they were the stellas and a pink rebloomer that I can't remember the name of.
love that palm! I have looked for them but I can't find them.:0( on m computer not my phone so I miss my emoji's sooo sad. trying very hard to get some you tube videos done since my brother surprised me with a camera for filming. I am excited, but there is MUCH to do first to get going the way I would like, and the way I can learn. Wish me luck! Your big fan!!!! Libby
Good news guys, I just got a 6ft gorgeous chinensis for $20 at my local nursery, looks like the prices went back down. I won't be putting her in the ground here in Indiana but if I find some smaller ones i may try it. Seems you could just bury one in a pot or something to get a similar effect with more growth potential

Awesome! what kind of palm are you thinking about?
Hi just saw this going to keep my eye out for one. Pretty cool how it came back for you. I'm in New Jersey so I think I can give it a try. Thanks

@@TropicalPlantParty did it come back or not? Been curious.
Jeff, that’s awesome! I’m going to try it in spring! My potted Livistona is also super tough, but I’d get another one to experiment.

Lol, must be nice! Haha, these grow trunks and looks really nice when they can grow all year and form into a tree.

@@TropicalPlantParty 👍thanks👍
come back in zone 6? but it will never get to tree size if it dies back every year?
That's right. Only the leaves return and since they continue to die back every year, they won't form a trunk.
thanks for tips, im considering buying one
What are those flowers behind it? Daylilies?
I think so 🤷♂️
