On this, Episode 3 of my Classic Flights series we relive one of my best flight ever: The First Class Apartments on the Etihad A380.
With the entire Etihad A380 fleet currently grounded due to covid at the moment all we can do is reminisce and keep our fingers crossed the beautiful product will soon be flying again.
The Etihad Airways A380 First Class Apartment has long been considered the gold standard of long haul first class travel. Until Singapore Airlines refurbished their own First Class Suites no other first class came close to this Etihad A380 First Class product. It is a truly incredible, indulgent, luxury experience. Joint me and we'll do it together.

When he said "the golden era of air travel", I really felt that;(
I was due to fly from Brisbane to Sydney with Virgin Australia Business Class return and then onto Glasgow return on the Etihad 777 and a380 in first class, but alas corona virus had other ideas.
So missed out on the flights, lounges and stopover in Abu Dhabi
Short of having your own private plane, this apartment in the sky is stunning.
My dream flight what a blessing ...how I’d love to enjoy that flight!
What an epic come down that would have been going from the apartment to Qantas economy. I guess it could have been worse had it been Tiger economy!

Flown Etihad Business many times including A380 and have always loved it - really fantastic product. And flown First Class a couple of times on the old 777 I think it was. It's a dream of mine to fly A380 First...meanwhile I'll live this dream by watching your great video.

nice one Dennis, did you ever get to try the new Emirates 1st class on the 777 ? if not, try it out.
i was lucky enough to fly emirates's new first class from stanstead last easter time and other than the q suite and this cabin it was the best first class in the world imo.

Yes you are lucky! That was a lovely video and let’s hope we can get back to normal travel sometime soon. I suppose there are people who travel in first class constantly and perhaps they take it for granted. For me, first class is very special and, the few times I have been in first have been a real privilege.
thanks heaps for reuploading this, reminds me of what i missed out on. I had my very first First class flight booked on these from SYD-AUH-LHR for May 2020 which was cancelled obviously. Sad to think that i may now never get to try this. Oh well...that just leaves EK to burn my many QF points on for my onboard shower experience.

Hi Dennis. Wow what an airline. I am a great fan of commercial airline reviews on TH-cam and I feel this video is amongst the top three I've ever seen. It is not always about the big things but the little things....But this was about the BIG things. That "apartment in the sky!" Outstanding. The English Cricket Board (ECB) has just signed a deal with Etihad to take the England Cricket Team around the world on tour. Something tells me they made a fantastic decision. Now reaching the top is one thing, staying there is another. But for now well done to this airline, and great video by yourself mate. 👍.

Faultless!! Everything is just on point. I love how you said in the beginning "share the experience" because it truly is an experience rather than a flight. Ive always flown Business Class, yet no matter how cosy the bed is l have never seemed to master the art of sleeping on a flight, how do you do it?. Great re upload. Thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks. Sleeping is aided by a few drinks after take off and the fact my trips are generally long haul so eventually I do fall asleep.
This made me miss flying even more.. But one of my favourite flight reviews from you Dennis. Still hoping Qantas will resume it's international flights sooner than July 2021.

As a Canadian from a lobster fishing community, great choice of entrée.
I honestly don't known if I've ever seen lobster served without the shell before. Then again, lobster in the shell is messy enough at the best of times, I can't imagine having to crack the shell in turbulence.

Dennis, whilst you were viewing the menu I was choosing my dinner from the list. Picked exactly the same as you did, even down to the wine. Looking to go to Europe in a couple of years, unfortunately the A380 is no longer flown by Etihad 😔 but hopefully their replacement will be just as good.

I was booked for AUH-LHR in 3A for October. Obviously gonna cancel that one now, since the A380 won’t fly by then. It was a lifetime dream to do that flight - I guess it needs to wait a few more years :/

Did I hear you say Colombo to Melbourne via Abu Dhabi? Seems a crazy out of the way backtrack.
It's too bad that Etihad is nearly bankrupt.
A cheap one way fare out of Colombo was the only way I could afford this one. Well worth the long layover and roundabout trip home.
These are great Dennis. My last flight was IAD to TLV via British Air Business class in February. Was on Business trip and remembered seeing a group from Singapore wearing masks and saying to myself how glad I was that the "virus" was over in the East and not in States. I also thought I was fortunate that I would never have to wear a mask as a Westerner..Well be careful what you think..am itching to fly international again. Had my trip to Bucharest canceled a few weeks ago. Hopefully with vaccine we get to return to normal. Anyway really appreciate your channel and reviews. Cheers and take care.
Those were the days - being able to fly around the world. I was in Israel, Egypt & Jordan in Feb and was feeling the same whenever I saw Asian groups wearing masks. Hope you got the BA A350 into TVL rather than the old 777 business.
@@DennisBunnikTravels Experienced the new BA on the 350 from LHR to IAD. It was great. A huge upgrade to the 777 BA business which I have flown for the years. Imo the new BA business now competes with most other Business class products.. Business on the 777 as you know feels very outdated and uncomfortable seats as well. Sounds like we were in Isreal same month. Next time you are in Tel Aviv try the restaurant Mashya, it is imo the best of what that city has to offer,simply excellent...When this all clears up ,would love to see you review Turkish Air business and the new extraordinary business lounge in the new Istanbul Airport. Have flown Turkish Air business several times and its terrific. I miss the smell of jet fuel! Cheers.

Question: Is it worth to fly business class with Qantas within Australia? How do you feel if you are flying first on an international flight and then economy within Australia?

Thanks. Flying business class within Australia is expensive so rarely worth the cost. I only fly it on points upgrades or where it is included in the international ticket as a connection to MEL or SYD. Due to my status level with Qantas I get lounge access even when flying economy so economy flying (even after a long haul first class sector) is never a problem. Cheers D
That hotel looks like The Jumeirah at Etihad Towers... what did you think of it? I stayed there in 2016..
It was great - only used it for day-use as arrived early morning from Colombo and flew out that night.

Hi Dennis! Just watched your vlog on Etihad first class again. Would it be safe to say that no one really knows when we’ll be able to travel again? I’m in Adelaide & I just spoke to my old flatmate who lives in Melbourne now & she said they’re going mad with all the restrictions. -& I said I’m going mad not being able to travel anywhere. -Just having a trip planned every few years gives me something to look forward to, AND NOW, just not knowing if and when I can go somewhere is doing my head in! Feeling your pain only a bit worse here in Melbourne!! We are going stir crazy. Like you l always had plans to go somewhere and took it for granted to pop off to Bali for a little rejuvenation or Singapore for New Years. Just when we thought might get a trans Tasman bubble with NZ thats been blown out of the water for a lot longer. At this point lm just hanging for maybe coming over your way if the borders reopen to Victoria in the near future, thats how low my expectations have become. Take Care, hang in there.

Like I said, I just got a message from my friend in Melbourne-& like you, she is going “stir crazy”! She said she can’t travel more than 5km from her house & she is so sick of wearing a face mask. I’m so sorry for what you guys are going through. I was planning to go to NYC for my birthday in a couple of years, but THAT won’t be happening anymore!! Stay safe and look after yourselves! Brilliant But Blue -No, I did mean “years”! I was last there in 2018 and now, -who knows...!! Unfortunately, I’m going to be psycho careful!! Because, a few years ago (actually it was QUITE a few years ago now!!) I was hit by a drunk driver and was in a coma in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) for a very long time -& I will not do anything to risk going back there again!! Stay safe! Kirstey xx

I wish they’d up their economy class i flew from Dublin to Abu Dhabi then on to Sydney last year and i was really disappointed with the experience. Food was the main issue, one main meal then a non negotiable snack of a little lunch bag I felt like I was back at school not on a £1200 flight. I especially chose Etihad as I had heard great things but I could have saved several hundred pounds and flown with another airline
I agree. Both Etihad's business and economy class have suffered due to cost cutting in recent years - especially economy class catering.

Every time I see the phrase "back in the golden age of air travel", I feel so depressed about the future prospects of air travel. At least I was there when it WAS the golden age.

how do you get by the false (or legitimate) copyright claims? is there any chance of dispute or does the video simply get taken down?
They leave the video up but take away all the advertising revenue. Disputing the claims often doesn't work. Rather than let them profit from their false claim I'm re-uploading them even though I know this one won't get as many views (the original had 750k).

Dennis, how do you film without accidentally being obtrusive or feeling awkward yourself?
I've been doing it for a while so it stopped feeling awkward a while ago. In terms of being obtrusive I avoid filming other passengers and never film crew/staff unless I have their permission.

Such a shame to know that Etihad won't fly the A380 again. I doubt their 777-9 will be as luxurious. Will it even have First Class?
One of the few things I don't like about the Apartment is the tiny TV. It needs to swing out so there's their excuse (and TVs on planes cost a thousand dollars per inch I've heard) but you really expect a true massive screen. Even the Residence doesn't have really big screens.
