Yeah... he's a bit of a dumbass, you know the type, top marks in the academy, but falls apart in the actual thick of the mess. Still, he kinda turned around at the end.

Many of the officers got their rank out of a Cracker Jack box anyway...
And then one soldier just T-poses and says "Sir yes sir!" And the officer watches in horror as the man gets ripped to shred. "Where was he gonna fall back too!?" Says the one sane soldier in the field. But the officer, being a dumb son of a bietch, keeps shouting "FALLBACK! RETREAT!"
The Federation is doomed...
I mean it make sense. They need troopers to cover every angle, if they keep losing troops then they need to close the circle to plug any gaps.
Given there was a General present with only 20 to 30 troopers i'm guessing they had exhausted every other option until that point. It was an act of desperation that unfortunately didn't work out.
In a world where tanks could solve a lot of problems....
Tanks would only help outside the bug tunnels

If I'm remembering right in the books they have tanks but there are scorpions with plasma firing tails that bust tanks and bunkers
@@jumpinglemur4860 tanks are clearly vulnerable to the Arachnids in the Starship Troopers cinematic universe.
Plus, their version of the Bugs can tunnel underground and outmanoeuvre tracked armor. Combined arms assault with air support and infantry are more versatile, with mechs and power armored suits later on, to confront a subterranean-type enemy.

I can say this, the movies may not have been the best, sans the 1st film and invasion, but they provided kickass infantry units for Terran Command.
i personally enjoy 2 a lot more than 3 and hold it in almost as high regard as the first movie
what holds 2 back for me is the fact it's very obviously low budget and it doesn't quite have the same parody in it that the original did (although there is quite a bit of veorhoven leaking through) but it's scenes like this, the reveal of everyone being under the influence of control bugs and the ending that make it stand out so much to me - if it had a proper budget and a better cast, it absolutely could've been a very good sequel, it already had a good premise

Agreed! SST 1 was amazing. 2 was crap, 3 was good! 4, was Ehhh. I will have to rewatch 4 maybe it was good maybe it was not. It defiantly was not memorable.

I love the added lore of the parasite bugs and found them horrifying, the isolation of the outpost and small personal scale was also a really cool change from the bombastic war machine of the others too. I think if the 2 was removed and it was just subtitled Hero of the Federation, people would appreciate it for a side story.
Starship Troopers 2 is something of a guilty pleasure for me. Is it good? Hell no, and it certainly doesn't hold a candle to the original, but I find enjoyment out of it all the same. Plus, the fact Terran Command went and included e-pulse rifles is pretty awesome; they're really damn powerful.
This and the nice reference to the parasite bugs around the same time as we unlock the pulse rifle units was a nice nod. It basically took the best elements of all 5 films and added at least one thing based on those. Though I genuinely think 2 is good, it just needed the 2 removed so people would expect a side story not a sequel
@@PKryik I think the biggest issue with the second film was that it was banking on brand recognition. The sequel had a very small budget, at least compared to the first. The acting is passable at best, the effects are laughably cheap (the bugs look okay, even if they don't look quite as good), the plot is nice on paper but wonky in execution, the characters aren't very memorable, and the movie lacked the satire the original was known for. I think that was the key difference. The movie played itself completely straight without any of that self-aware satire it was known for, and became another sci-fi horror B-movie that wouldn't be out of place on the SyFy channel. That being said, I still hold this movie as a guilty pleasure, enjoying it despite those aforementioned flaws. It's just a fun little bug movie at the end of the day, even if it falls short compared to its predecessor.

My exact opinion about the film I had fun with it
I think it would be an interesting concept to see a Penal Unit in the Starship Troopers universe. A bunch of condemned criminals given the chance to fight for full pardons and the opportunity to even become a citizen. Of course, 99% of the missions would be suicide.
I know in the original StarCraft, the Terran Marines were just that, prisoners and anyone else that were deemed expendable by the Confederacy.
So basically The Dirty Dozen meets Starship Troopers. That could work if done right.

I remember seeing this movie and then Brenda Strong appeared on screen. I knew the film was going to be crap then because her character died in the first movie, so they brought her back to play another character. She must have been desperate for money.
The entire budget went into this scene.
While this was low budget, there were a lot of good choices. The variation in the music, the heroic brass, then a sudden shift to a more somber tone really sets the mood for the horrors of war. And getting eaten by giant bugs.
I loved the sound design for the guns in this one
Just for a hunch, the guns used in this movie. Are meant for the troopers to strike at the heart of the AQZ
can't tell who is braver in that scene during the final stand, the soldiers, the general, or the flag bearer, even against being overrun they stood their ground... they held the line

oh it absolutely had a lot of potential and its super unique premise helps big time, it somehow mates alien & aliens together perfectly if that makes sense
This is the 2nd live action movie. This one was definitely better than Maurader and the SFX were spectacular.
ima... ima gonna go with the writing. I wont knock the acting because it has to be compared with the first film. which wasnt as bad as a lot of people nail it for on acting.
It was super small scale compared to the first and none of the characters were really memorable or likeable aside maybe the main guy and the captain from the first movie.
The writing and the acting just intersected right in the sweet spot of 'not good'. And that can make a decent premise quite bad.
It's really fun to watch this after playing ST Terran Command

Especially the part with the Command Squad. The flag and the Commander standing there getting over-run but not leaving. Looks like something out of the art books

Starship troopers 1&2 are actually childhood classics for me , they are both fun to watch through depsite the bad dislike for the second one

I remember watching this in a binge (between 1 and 3). The original is a classic; 3 is madness incarnate; sadly, this one is just forgetable.

It is blindingly obvious how many people know only the movies. It took 4 movies to introduce what was in common use in the BOOK. That equipment was an armored exoskeleton fed by negative feedback carrying bombracks(read large grenades) rocket launchers, flamers(written when flamethrowers were still in common use worldwide) and a select fire rifle calibered in .50. They were in effect walking tanks.

I miss the actual gunfire in the first one, I can always tell when the muzzle flashes are cgi and the actor is just bouncing around for recoil effect 😂

I don't think the bugs would be able to melee/brute force their way through ceramite armor. I I also think bolters would be super effective against them. Plasma bugs might be able to take out a few astartes if they're tied up with the drones. Tyranids these things ain't.

Think they had around 20+ troops when they got to the outpost. When they were being attacked by thr bugs while Dutch was still imprisoned they lost like 90% of their group thats why we see like 6 or 7 of em after Dutch got the fences back up
They made the bugs way more overpowered comaored to the books in the movie every bug is a warrior

There's virtually no chance of winning when the opposing army is simply much bigger... In war, the side with more resources usually wins. Whatever weapons you have, it doesn't change the fact that there is far more bugs than you have ammo. Flamethrowers and machine guns are not bottomless too, you know. Unlike the bugs... They use a strategy that is, with their numbers, fail-proof, they simply keep coming, until you run out. Never fails. Typical war of attrition on the bugs' side. And they are winning.
Can’t beat the first film.
The drop in quality and direction is so drastic from one to two. This feels like a TV show not a movie.

they needed way more sound effects, I can see why these movies fell short, theres no background noise, extremely few gunshots, no explosions, no bug sounds, etc, the sound editor should have been fired

And just goes for that Arimata MK3 or something, that mark 3 got load of equipment but the firepower is kinda suck as see in Marauder that they need entire squad (I mean 10+ soldiers) to just kill a few bug.

I remember how hype I was when this movie come out and this we get this movie where it rush and the budge was low as hell and you can tell both this movie and the third one was rush and I guess since the first movie was so popluar and made alot movie they rush this out and the third one in hope people will still watch it and it suck bad and I did like some scene in both the third and second movie like see General Shepherd with few of his guys stand together
