I love this kind of videos in which you compare cars and dont care if theyre premium brand and non premium, just car vs car!
The Cooper actually gets a lot better fuel mileage than what they report in this video. I'm getting an average of 43mpg over almost 6000mi. The lowest mileage I've recorded is 38mpg and that's with 2 bikes on the roof and a car full to the brim with camping gear.
that is great to know Bradley! Can you or have you filled up with 87 or 89 Octane? I belive I have seen it says that 91 is required, but I tend to believe that usually not necessary.
+krisschedler it is possible to fill the car with 89, but I always use 91 to maximize efficiency since the ECU is tuned for 91
The 3 cyl Mini has an 11:1 compression engine. That's really high for a car, that's like Sportbike territory where they're try to squeeze out the most power possible out of a small engine. Add to that forced induction from the Turbo and you're cramming even more air into the cylinders. The problem here is detonation. High compression engines need high octane so you don't get ignition before the piston reaches top dead center, the engine can be severely damaged from it. I wouldn't put anything under 91 in it. You may be alright in some weather/temp conditions, and you may ruin the engine in others.
For the price of that mini, go to local Ford dealership: Pick up Fiesta ST (starts at around 21k) and you're golden.
Also get the premium sound system, recaro seats, sunroof and some other small extras. still less than the (giant) Mini.
The slight dip in fuel economy is worth it X100.
Or go buy a Cooper S and have a car with better materials, build quality, sound, and many other perks. I know because I just got one. No disrespect to Ford but I the extra 2 thousand dollars spent on the Mini are all well spent. Not to mention the performance. The Fiesta doesn't even hold a candle to the Mini. Again, no disrespect to the Ford.
Leo Tanzi The cooper S STARTS at the price of a fully loaded Fiesta ST. And we all know Mini, you need to pay tons of money for options that are standard. the Cooper S can get up to over 35k. No thanks.
Leo Tanzi Mini's are awesome!!!!!!
***** Actually the biggest problems are with the transmissions, not with "oil changes"...Also the Mini comes with free oil changes for 3 years...not sure what you are talking about when you say "yokel trash running them into the ground?" Do "yokels" buy Mini's? Free oil changes and maintenance for 36 months....it is a no brainer, free is free. I don't think you can blame no oil changes on major documented transmission problems. People that buy Mini's are usually well educated and particular about such things as maintenance.
Mini has better looks and people say it's better in every way but in reality they buy another car :)
and you can customise the mini however you want. interior and exterior. colours, strips, seats, leather, lights, switches, mirror caps, handles, wheels and so on
Why are they using the lowest base model fiesta? At least use the titanium. It’s a great car.
I purchased this 3 cyl Mini (6 speed maual transmission)...the engine is quiet, smooth, powerful, and very quick/torquey right off the line....You have to drive this car, it is FUN! It is also much quieter than the "clackety clack" diesel sounding 1.6 liter engine.
Was this shot in the Thorncliffe Park / Don Mills area?
If it is one or the other, then I'd choose the Fiesta. Mini is nortorius for it's unreliability. Plus, I hear the EcoBoost engines are magnificent even for a I3.
The syling of the Cooper however is hard to resist.
It's a good thing that these lower powered engines are offered in a manual. Something that is becoming ancient history when fuel efficient CVTs are replacing automatics.
I'm surprised the Ford is not offered with a CVT.
Ford's reliability has plummeted in the past year because of this engine, so I'm not sure if I can agree with you. Also, the MINI is much more enjoyable to drive, faster, and has a better made interior and better seats. If you're OK with a rental car, sure, get a Fiesta. If you want a car that doesn't blend in with the rest of the world, get a MINI. Personally, I'd go for a used MINI. The newest model is really ugly from behind and loses a lot of the character that made these cars unique. They're still unique, but they're more like a regular car than ever before.
Kev50027 Untrue Kev...try even finding a 3cyl Fiesta anywhere/that isn't why Ford's ratings have dropped ....Ford has other issues, this engine isn't one of them. It is actually winning awards.
autos.yahoo.com/news/ford-1-0-liter-ecoboost-gets-engine-gong-090009465.html?bcmt=comments-postbox
+Kev50027 i was looking for a mini and even used they are more expensive then the fiesta unless you get a really old one.
+Kev50027 ford reliability went down because of the power shift and my ford touch .ford sold only 5000 of these engines in 2014 in the usa not a major dent at all.
Ford is literaly the most vanilla car on the road! Especialy the fiesta. I thought he explaind it well, they really do feel like your driving a rental car. I guess if you just need a cheap car with good gas milage ford is the way to go. But out of the 2, Mini hands down for sure! Much more fun to drive, and so many options!!
Mini is very fun to own and incredibly good handling!
to buy it depends on how crazy you get with the options. but to own i would disagree . repair yes... unfortunatly :( but BMW has put alot of their little gimics into it so i guess it makes sence
+slabbie slab you mean toyota?
haha well yeah Toyota too. There are several very vanilla cars on the road. I was just being dramatic... also I personally can't stand Ford. but I know their doing well lately soo hats off to them I guess
***** Focus ST and RS are far from vanilla...
another question is why not give a 2.3L ecoboost engine on the fiesta or the focus??
Because it has over 300HP
they may do that in the future, but that car will be 40K or more in price, and it will have the RS badge :)
mini all the wayy
Im in love with the Mini. It has that "panache" and cool factor that no other car on its range has. I personally find the Fiesta the rental car sort of type. No offence to Ford.
I think Ford have it right. If you're in the market for a fuel sipping car. You're probably not going to spend a load of £££/$$$ on options.
It's worth noting that both base Mini Coopers and Fiesta 1.0L ecoboosts will be hard to find anywhere.
Guess you guys didn't get the 1.0 ecoboost sport fiesta or the red and black edition.
nope, but theres no point because if I were to get one I would modify it anyway. Base model all day, I will personalize and modify it myself.
I used to own a 70hp Ford Festiva and loved it. I put 3" White lettering on the back window that said "Chick Magnet" and you wouldn't believe me how much it worked. Girls all over wanted a ride in the Chick Magnet, lol. Now I'm getting a Mini... Chick Magnet 2.
Id much rather have the Fiesta. Then again, id much rather buy a nice used car and save loads of money and have a much better all around car. But I do not feel mini's or this dudes lisp at all!
You forgot to mention the automatic can get up to 55 mpg highway on mini. The manual of course is rated lower cause no one knows how people will shift exactly.
No comparison, the Mini is amazing to drive.
thats funny
@@gamesmaster1060 It attracted you
@@buildmorefarms1007 I don't get your statement. The fiesta is also amazing to drive so there is a comparison
@@gamesmaster1060 The Mini is premium and upscale. The Fiesta is an economy car and discontinued.
@@buildmorefarms1007 The mini is mostly only premium car because of the badge. The fiesta is much more value for money which is something good unless you are a badge snob.
Why is the mpg so bad in the us? Both of those will easily get 50-60mpg in the uk
You never think about how many S's might be in a single sentence, until you hear Sami deliver those lines.
the guy in the mini has no clue what he's talking about... he's not impressed with the new mini's mileage? it's a three cylinder with same 1.5 liter displacement as before plus the turbo that produces more torque and horsepower and he's not impressed with the improved mpg? get real mini has accomplished something very impressive but this guy is belittling significant gain of 2 mpg on top of additional torque & power with heavier curb weight than before.
That lisp doe
no doubt, I hate every video hes in, kills me.
ah ha ha ha. I was trying not to mention it. It's bad...
first i heard in intro, hell of annoying. FFS. Do camera work instead and let other guy talk. This is fucking torture to listen to.
Are those Canadian values or American values? Very confusing because I see that you review your cars in Toronto, Canada, close to where I work actually... =)
the front fascia of the mini cooper reminds me of a toads mouth and now I can't see anything else.
Have a 2011 Mini Cooper. Wouldn't change it for another car. ford fiesta is ugly. Mini is fun and completely different to other cars
Different as in... always in the repair shop? :)
ah no.
I agree about the Fiesta. The two door in Europe looks OK, but the four door just doesn't look right at all. I'm buying a Mini. The Mini looks great and takes corners like some kind of amusement park ride!
Photo314159 I bought a Mini 2 years ago...it has been great fun.
Please compare mini cooper to ford fiesta st line 140ps!
The video is nice work, but you mention the elephant that is the Mini is more expensive but you never say by how much. You guys break down several Fiesta trim levels and still never mention a cent on how much Mini Coopers cost. For an average Eight Thousand Dollars more than the Fiesta 1.0 L ecoboost it better be a nicer car.
where is this filmed?
love mini cooper sorry other guy I just like mini cooper
The Mini does 0-60 mph n 7.4 sec??
My Polo GTI has got 180 hp and 250 lb-ft of Torque and does it in 6.9 sec.
I really can not believe that Mini is that fast.
Why not focus st?
Because THE WHOLE POINT of this comparison is to compare two cars with 3-cylinder engines, or didn't you watch the video?
Holy lisp
Holy SHIT, this railing on his lisp is really getting old. You must be a 9 year old or very immature. We all know children can be so cruel to other children, but it is sad to see that so called "Adults" revert to being the cruel children they once were. Grow up...
oh, I am disappointed, I was hoping you had more than that... what a joke
+krisschedler his lisp is funny. It doesn't make him a bad or uncool person, people with lisps are hilarious and awesome. Life would not be complete without lisps. Or lithpth rather 😂 these videos are now informative AND entertaining. Again, his lisp isn't a bad thing, and I am sure the guy who said "holy lisp" wasn't saying it to be a jackass. Give people the benefit of the doubt. Don't assume.
its annoying to me too...hilarious when he says "seats" or "switches".
i got to ask , is that 30 mpg in the city and 34mpg with load hauling or empty cause u can't tell me a number with telling me how u did that test , real life everyday test or just whats stupidness they tell u on paper
Filmed in Toronto :)
Bring a few friends and all their stuff along in that Fiesta 3 cylinder, turn on the A/C and go up a big hill and hope like hell it doesn't burst into flames!
You jealous bro?
That makes no sense?
Neither does your post about it bursting into flames....this isn't a Tesla.
It's a tiny engine working very hard, I don't actually think it would burst into flames, it was a sarcastic exaggeration.
That 3 cyl won awards....
Uuuhhmm, I have not seen any rally mini or for that matter any competition mini. please correct me if I'm wrong
The Mini was originally a rally car dude.
The Mini Cooper won the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964, 1965, and 1967 beating out bigger and more powerful cars. It was kind of a big deal and completely launched the brand.
Basically the 3 cylinder in the Mini is what BMW wants to put in the 5 series, so your foot has to be on the floor everywhere.
No, BMW is using the 2.0 liter turbo inline 4 in the 5 series. It produces a heck of a lot more power and torque.
I heard a rumour from fastlane daily that they might use it in the future along with the 4 cylinder by 2018 or something like that
For the average person a mini might be more expensive. But honestly, if you are a guy most repairs are simple and you save the hourly wage. Plus most repairs are preventable if the car is checked...but once again people know nothing about cars these days.
I would no doubt in my mind take the mini over the fiesta.
Both are cars to die in.. And not to die for..
In a Mini.. lol
Small cars are much safer these days
lol..
Jealous?
Nope.. Intelligence..
I'm so irrelevant here, but why are the steering wheels on the American Fiestas different from the European Fiestas?
Don't know. We don't even get a two door version here either.
i think the european steering wheel is ugly. i'm glad it's different in the u.s.
looks like a saggy old tit.
in europe ford fiesta ecoboost costs 15.000 dollars, mini cooper costs 35.000, in america is so low price for that car. SOmething must be wrong with quality....
Fiesta SFE
Super Fucking Efficient
I have pearl moonshine zetec s 123cv,, brillant sound on sony radio usb n bluetooth,,,3cly growl ,, needs a sound symposer,,,, maybe not ,, turbo sounds cool,,, the growl from engine is impresive
!,, wants to go fast,, be careful engine likes todrink,,, but pure joy too drive
Make it a one cyl.
The Mini is 20k, the Fiesta 1.0 is $17,900... Mini is premium sports car. Fiesta is a bare bones economy car.
+buildmorefarms100 where can you get a mini for 20k
jay czyzyk At a Mini dealer.
which dealer
is it with an engine
jay czyzyk Youre silly, sir.
This was a joke. Don't waste your time
It's high time America got decent octane fuel.
We already do.
European octanes are measured in RON, while American octanes are rated in AKI.
91 RON = 87 AKI
95 RON = 91 AKI
98 RON = 92 AKI
compare mini cooper to 2017 ford fiesta st line 140 ps
and not the screen lol cheap small screen in the mini show 1 with the big one then, 7.4 ? its 7.9
For how much that Mini cost you should have gave the Fiesta ST the win ....what car has the better powertrain? ...that's what the review should have been the Mini cost 7K more!
Base Mini is cheaper than the ST...
If the mini had anywhere near the reliability of the ford it would be great but it doesn't!
Mini is actually much more reliable than Ford now! Anything past 2014 is super reliable!
Without question the Mini will be the much better car: More features, more fun to drive, better shifter, better handling. Past Mini's are legendary for their fun factor! Enjoy!
Wrong. First, my 2014 MINI cost LESS to insure than my Hyundai Veloster did! Yes, I was surprised, too.
Second, since the 2014 MINI has an all-new chassis/platform shared with BMWS models [UKL2], all-new BMW-made engines, BMW-shared electricals, BMW everything else (iDrive, etc.), all-new interior, new transmission -- you cannot compare this MINI to any previous MINI. How reliable it will be, nobody can say yet, long-term, but there's no question that your statements are wrong, wrong, wrong!
darexdarex You are so right...I was wrong in my opening post here. I actually purchased a 2014 Mini!!!! I LOVE IT!
+buildmorefarms100 and extremely poor reliability resale value
jay czyzyk You are incorrect, the Intellichoice 5 year resale value for the Mini is 51%. The Fiesta resale after 5 years is 49%. Also, Fiesta has had many many problems with their transmissions/very unreliable.
both cars are highly unreliable and poor uhs but based om gda mini has dropped on resudual value by 3-PERCENT
Want fuel economy get diseal or a hybrid
I would take a previous gen mini looks better to me
3 cylinder? No
Just about every sentence starts with a metaphor. Way to overkill
Yeah agreed!! Its like they're trying too hard.
Yeah, you know
it be buggin' me out, you know what I'm sayin'
that rap, how everybody like is using metaphors and all that
it seems like everybody's some kind of metaphor freak
some kind of metaphorical freak or somethin' man,
you know what I'm sayin', word up
So, You know what I'm sayin, - LL Cool J
I think it was Ford on this one. At about $18,000 the Fiesta had the win on this to the MINI. The pricing of a Titanium Fiesta with all the goodies is better than that model of Mini. I like mini, but if I was someone looking for a low priced new car, it would be the Ford. Besides Ford cars have definitely changed. Better built & very reliable. For the money you spend on the Mini, you could have tricked out your Fiesta the way you want it.
The Ford might be better value for transportation, but you need to sit in a MINI and drive one around to understand why it costs more. First off, they're designed by BMW. Secondly, the interior is far nicer than the Ford. Third, there are options available that are vastly superior than those in the Ford (HUD, nav is more reliable, easier to use than the disastrous MyFord Touch, LED headlights, adjustable dampers, etc). If you're looking for a car to get you from A to B, the Ford is the way to go. If you have more personality than a grey blob, and want your car to match it, the MINI may be a better fit.
you americans got punched in the face by ford some european countries ,Australia and New Zealand have that engine available for every variant of the fiesta
hi i'm Scott Malkinson
I have diabetes.
Mini Cooper will always be in the Repair shop. Go with the Ford !!
False
Then buy a mini.. Let us all know how that goes for you.. lol
I did. I just bought a 2014 Cooper S. Fantastic car with a solid build quality. Besides, have you actually been in or driven a Mini?
Nope.. I would rather be on a motorcycle than in a mini. Mini is a car to die in.. Not to die for.
if you bought a 2014.. Then how can you possibly say it is solid? It is a new car? Let us all know how solid it is in 6-10 years with over 100,000 miles on it.. Let us know how that goes..
sounds wreally croul
Shame the mini is totally unpractical for a family.
These cars have very little in common....except they both have 3cyl engines. Mini is incedibly fun and the Fiesta is an economy car.
Fiesta headlights are very ugly.
Kudos to Ford for only offering a manual transmission.
My jet ski has more horsepower than these cars, lol.
Ford sux the big leather houdini. How they are still in business is beyond me. The Mini rocks!
Who'd want a Ford lol
thhhh
b fcn mw...build reliable minis please...clean up your mess
The Fiesta is a better looking car, is more reliable, and does not cost as much. The Feista is obviously the better option.
CRAP! 25000 $ for a decently loaded Mini, nuts, one can get a well moderately loaded Focus 2.0 with DCT for this price and its faster, more fun to drive than Mini and spacious and in all way a better car, apart from that unique Mini looks
Under 20000 $ Fiesta is the way 2 go,also the ecoboost fiesta is a economy tuned car, still it rides handles drives like s ports car, that dosent make it a sports car, so for the purpose on hand Fiesta is way better, shift peacefully and drive peacefully and Fiesta will give almost 50 mpg while cruising @ 60 mph
Fiesta has a proper back seat, proper boot,if we take sedan model it is cheaper and gives 450l boot space as well
Americans might say Fiesta is slow but please give an eg of a car with less than 1.4l displacement thats as powerful as Fiesta, its actual 0-60 mph is 9.2s and for mini its 8s both are GPS tested time unlike manufacturer times
I just got a Cooper S for 27k and it has more options than the one in the video. The Cooper S does cost more but you can see it in the quality. Also, the Cooper S is faster than the Fiesta ST.
Leo Tanzi What the hell are you talking about, Cooper S is NOT faster than Fiesta ST
www.topgear.com/uk/photos/mini-cooper-s-vs-ford-fiesta-st-2014-05-12
Want more
www.autoexpress.co.uk/mini/mini/87490/mini-cooper-s-vs-audi-s1-vs-ford-fiesta-st
I have driven a Fiesta ST and i bet even if BMW made FWD cars they 2 cant make a FWD car that can handle as good as the ST, its too good, unbelievably precise and extremely fun as it has the rotation that can easily challenge even a proper rear wheel drive car for fun
Twinturbo 2.0 190 bhp and 207 Ft-lb torque. Check your facts. The fiesta has a good chassis and its quick but let's not lie to ourselves. Not to mention the dull interior and the Ford badge that screams "I've given up on life." It all comes down to opinion. A car with no heritage, personality, and dull design or a car that actually puts a smile on your face when you press the crazy-looking ignition button or when you put the car into sport mode and the screen says "Let's Motor Hard". It's these factors that add up to that price tag or the smile on your face that has you looking like a 9 year old boy.
Sorry too much replies cuz of internet failure
More fun to drive? Nope, sorry. Also, the MINI is a much better designed car. It's so good that BMW (who designed it) sells a 2 series FWD car which uses the same chassis. So you're getting a BMW for the price of a fancy Ford, and the interior is a lot nicer. In other words, you get what you pay for.
Had to stop watching because the video crap nearly gave me a seizure.
I thought the three words that come to mind were, piece of shit. Smh
Fords reliability is sooo much better and equal quality to the mini. With the mini your just payin for the name
Boss Buse
Yup equal quality. It's more better! ha ha. DERP.....
Fords wheels are awful.
If you want fuel economy then get a VW diesel.
Ford... Ewwww
