In the quiet, single-family housing district of Seochodong, nestled between Seoul National University of Education and the Gyeongbu Expressway, sits the Seoripul Tree House. The name reflects the area's history, once abundant with Seoripul plants and prone to fog during rainy seasons. Unlike the towering apartment complexes that dominate most of Gangnam, Seochodong offers a tranquil atmosphere, a perfect backdrop for this unconventional house.
The design for Seoripul Tree House emerged from a unique collaboration between the architect and the client. The client envisioned a house that wasn't centered around a traditional living room, but rather a collection of independent spaces for each family member. This concept resonated with the architect, who saw the house itself as a microcosm of a city, with each room representing a distinct area. The final design reflects this philosophy - the house is an L-shaped structure with separate sections for different functions, like a hall or a library, rather than a central living space.
