Q: Are you sending a bad message by telling your audience that you, a person with a perfectly normal body for a 37-year-old man, need to lose weight? A: I worried about that, but look, everybody has their own goals, and these are mine. I'm fine with how I look, but I don't feel very good, and I don't want to buy all new clothes. When I'm stronger and leaner than I am now, I have more energy, less back pain, and I sleep way better. And yes, a leaner me will also probably present a more "marketable look" in the video medium, which is something I do need to think about these days. Also I have a hot wife, and that alone is a good reason to try to keep my shit tight. But you do you. Q: Why can't you put more herbs and spices on that bland fish? A: You absolutely can, but I find decoupling nutrition from pleasure helps me maintain focus on my fitness goals during times like these. I believe they call it "functional eating." Q: What was up with that intro? A: It was an homage to the Hodgetwins - fitness TH-camrs who used to start all their videos with something like, "Hey man, you looking to make some gains?" And now that I've explained the joke, it's not funny anymore. But they're still funny, so you should go check out their channel. Q: Why don't you pronounce the "h" in "herbs"? A: It's very rare to hear an American pronounce the "h." People here who do it are usually either making a mistake, or they're being pretentious by trying to sound British. I sound pretentious enough as it is. Q: Why did you pronounce "Vidalia" like that? A: I have been to Vidalia, Georgia, and the surrounding onion-growing region many times. It's an hour from my house. I've interviewed onion farmers there. How I said it in the video is basically how most people there say it (though I lack the Southern drawl). You can say it how you want to say it. Q: Do you realize that freshwater fish aren't technically seafood? A: Yes. So do the marine biologists at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and yet they still talk about freshwater fish on their website seafoodwatch.org because in English we don't have a better single word to describe all the aquatic animals we eat. Q: Do you realize that carbs are actually great/awful, or that strength training is great/awful, or that some other nutrition or exercise thing is actually the worst/best? A: I am hardly an expert, but I've interviewed lots of scientists and read lots of scientific literature about diet and exercise. If you're saying something like this to me, I think it's probably the case that you are massively oversimplifying the available science. Also, good nutrition is bespoke nutrition. Q: Why do you squat the way you do? A: Squat form is a very controversial thing on the internet, in part because there are lots of different ways to squat depending on your goals (i.e. playing football vs growing Tom Platz quads) and also because good squat form is highly dependent on your own personal biomechanics. I've been squatting many years, and I've had trainers look at my form several times. This is the basic form that I have found works with my structure, and it's hardly unusual. However, I will go deeper, lower-bar and certainly much heavier as I progress. I've been almost sedentary for a year. Especially as I get older, I find that I need to be VERY cautious about any exercises involving spinal compression until my core strength comes back on line. The squat you see me doing here is what feels safest to me at this stage in my process. And yes, I deadlift too, but it will be several weeks before my core is strong enough for that. Q: If you're dieting, why is there Coke and other unhealthy things in your fridge? A: I am not the only person who lives in my house. Also, regarding the other ingredients, I am continuing to develop/test/shoot normal recipes for this channel, because not everyone in the world wants to eat cauliflower rice and tilapia for the next two months. Hell, I don't really want to.
@@higherpower254 Bro, what makes you think I don''t have one? Did you really think this video shows you every single form of exercise I do? It has three lifts in it.
My background is in science. One of the companies I would order specialty items from would send us free stuff. One the best was a shirt that said "E. Coli happens". Unfortunately someone stole the shirt from me.
Adam is one of the most talented chefs on youtube. Seeing him go full fucking goblin mode eating the most grey, unappetizing slop out of a bowl is hilarious.
HazelB I agree. The rugged, barely maintained look is great. And the equipment is relatively simple, but that's all a person truly needs to get healthy, really healthy, lean, and strong. More complex stuff is useful only to show off.
not even all that ghetto really. just in a dank basement. put that same equipment in a well-lit room with some mirrors and you'd think you were at any typical paid subscription weight room.
I much prefer the typical chicken breast, salmon, Greek yogurt, egg white French toast, roasted veggies, salads, etc. I don’t quite understand Adam’s goal of decoupling nutrition from enjoyment for these short bursts because it seems entirely unsustainable to be. I believe the best diet is one that you can enjoy and maintain over the long term.
the idea of eating out of a pot of cold fish and cauliflower rice over the course of a week where the rice will get mushier and the fish tasting old, is so genuinely horrifying
For what it’s worth, I use the frozen bags of pre-riced frozen cauliflower and I’ve made a few portions to eat over the course of a week and it really doesn’t get any mushier as the days pass
Sometimes I like to come back here just to see Adam try to explain the logic of eating a progressively decomposing slop of protein. The knowledge that he made hundreds of dollars out of a very eloquent video of him eating days old fish to loose weight just warms my heart.
I lost 100 pounds in 4-5 months. I was the type of dude that was like “nah I can’t eat that I’m losing weight” and would pull out my chicken bag that I made and brought with me everywhere. Everyone called me coach. I lost a fuckton of weight tho. You don’t want to be coach at Christmas
I work night shift in a hospital with a bunch of phillipino nurses. They have feasts in the break room. Sometimes it really sucks being that person, but it helped me lose 120 pounds.
Adam, I appreciate the video specifically targeting weight loss. That said I ALREADY lost 35 lbs this year almost entirely thanks to your channel. I have taken your concept of freezing foods into ice cubes to a ridiculous extreme. I personally can't stand eating the same food over and over but by eating rice paired with reheated cubes of pesto, lentil curry, black beans (your recipe) or bolognese (also your recipe) I've been able to very precisely manage portion control and I only have to cook about once a week to replenish whichever cube stash is running short. Any more recipes you store in ice cube form would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a million!
I also freeze “ice cubes” of minced ginger, marinara, raw pureed tomatoes (for pizza sauce), fresh basil in olive oil, and freshly squeezed lemon/lime juice.
you should try IIFYM. A lot of bodybuilders (my wannabe self included) adopted this style of eating. Barebones explaination: eat whatever you want as long as it fits your macronutrient goals. You'll never get bored of the food you eat.
Another good ice cube food hack is to puree left over vegetables and freeze the puree. Whenever I'm making something with strong flavors like tomato sauce I take out the puree cubes and dissolve a few into the dish. The food usually tastes no different but I'm stretching out the dish and getting more nutrition. Plus it's nice not to waste food.
This was genuinely helpful. I was losing weight, then I was on an SSRI and gained a ton of weight. Which made my bad ankles worse. Which made exercise outside of work more difficult/impossible. I’ve observed you and I tend to have similar pallets, and we apparently respond similarly to weights vs cardio. So I really appreciated this
Carbs aren't an issue. They're needlessly demonized because of sugar. The only carbs you want to worry about are the fast digesting carbs, like sugar. Because it causes more significant insulin spikes and isn't satiating at all. For 99% of people, getting a healthy diet takes 3 steps. 1. Reduce sugars 2. Add variety 3. Make sure you're eating enough protein. Everything beyond that is marginal gains with little real world benefit and a whole crap load more work. Which is why 95% of diets fail. You are simply not going to put in a lot of extra effort for everyone.
Literally eating the veggie soup right now. I tweaked it a little, didn't have peas and I love celery so that got thrown in. This soup took less than an hour to make and I have lunch for almost the whole week now. Fantastic recipe! So simple!
You're the first person I have ever seen acknowledge the realities of how a diet works perfectly until real life happens, and you get invited to things, and you go out with people
A small addition to the soup recipe which has made it even more tasty for me is adding a tablespoon or two of soy sauce, and a table spoon or two of nutritional yeast.
Actually step 0 is not changing your diet at all really. Things as simple as reducing the sugar you consume from your morning coffee or instead of having a juice/soda with your lunch or dinner having a glass of water. Easiest way to lose weight without trying in a month, reduce sugar and milk content in coffee by a small amount, trade one nonwater drink for water or dilute it with 1/3 water.
@@andrescrespo2514 Nope, losing weight is all about being in a caloric deficite. Reducing sugar is very good don't get me wrong but sometimes it's not enough.
Yeah, Gordon can talk out his ass all he wants, but unless you buy your fish from the fisherman/vendor within 1 mile of the dock where it came in, flash freezing does less to hurt the fish than the time it spends rotting waiting for you to buy it. If you can't find that fish fresh caught this morning within a 20 minute drive or buy it alive (i.e. clams, lobster, etc.), frozen will almost always be better unless you're a high-end restaurant having your fish flown in daily.
Its so cool how relatable his videos are. Its kinda like talking to a stranger in a bar who knows his stuff. Like doing videos WITH effort put in but also in a down to earth manner, its just something worth a praise
A diet is just eating in a certain way So if you dont have any kind of schedule or certain kinds of foods you eat more or frequently then your not on a diet But anyone that has any kind of frequency or common stuff they eat are technically on a diet regardless of if its a planned one or just by chance and doesn’t follow any existing diet When people say diet they mean on of two things This is what i eat often This is what i have to or am allowed to eat because i need to “blank”
@@calebangell77 I'm saying that it's a shock that he would even need a "Adam's diet food" video because of how fit he looks and how well he is at cooking
Adam, for me this is one of the best videos you've done. Thanks. I'm 65 and am working on getting into better condition. This will help immensely. Thank you.
I really like how you break down rather complex things into something perfectly doable for the average guy without going the "you have to do this exact same thing" route. I'm considering going with lean chicken for the most part, mostly because i like fish way too much. The idea of making the food not a reward but a nutritional necessity is great, and totally agree on that you have to remember to treat yourself once in a while. Repetitiveness however will kill the mood after a while, might do a switch to fish after week two. Really nice idea with the cauliflower "rice". Anyways picked up quite a few hints from the vid that will make getting started quite easy.
I've lost 90 lbs in 7 months. I'm a 55 year old male, with only walking 20 minutes a day for exercise. Cutting carbs is really the key, along with keeping your calorie count between 1200-1500 per day. I aimed for 40 net carbs per day. I drank a protein shake in the morning, chicken tacos or Arby's double roast beef sandwich for lunch (no shells or buns) and then chicken and some sort of green vegetable, or eggs and bacon for supper. Now it's about keeping the calories below 2000 in order to maintain. For me, I found the repetitiveness helpful. You find something you like and stick with it. That way you don't have to wonder "Can I eat this or not?" It may not work for you, but I needed the repetition.
@@aragusea I can just imagine what that must sound like: "Ok,so I'll give you the cable crossover, power rack, deadlift platform and a couple of isolation machines for ... let's say 47$" "Could you throw in those 200lb gold plated dumbells in and make it an even 50" "Yeah sure,we were using those as doorstops "
Here's a few of my versions of Pot-O- protein, wanted to experiment a lil Canned pre cooked Chickpea, haricot, Dutch brown Beans and blood sausage (pudding here in Ireland) usually a mix of blood, organ meats, oat, fat ect Spicy Lamb liver and spinach Great as a broth too in the morning Salmon and Sweetcorn Egg, ground lamb, beans and rice. Chicken and green beans
Cauliflower rice is one of the few things I kept from my stints in keto. I luckily have a food processor with a grater attachment and wide feed tube so ricing it is easy. Try spreading it out on parchment paper and baking in the oven instead. It comes out with a much better texture in my opinion, and doesn't really take any longer. You can then quickly stir fry it with anything else you might want.
For me, the hardest part when I try to diet is the fact that I live with 3 other people (my parents and my brother) and they eat different food and we eat at the same time and I start CRAVING what they eat. On top of that my parents buy my brother snacks and I can't help myself when I see him eating them. Also, when I'm a bit hungry, I open the fridge to get some of my food, but when I see all the other, better tasting, better feeling food, the hell with my diet!
If it makes you feel any better, you're not alone. It's hard to eat healthy when the environment around you is full of fat, sugar, and salt because those are delicious and our stupid monkey brains want easy calories. Eating is also very much a social thing. The best thing you can do is try to find healthy stuff that tastes good to you and that you can make the _easy_ option when you're hungry like his big POT OF FOOD. And don't wait to make that food until you're hungry; make it ahead of time. Side-step your willpower.
@@OmniversalInsect Not going to debate that with you. But for what it's worth, that's not actually what I said. I said the food environment around us is loaded with unhealthy (mostly highly processed) foods heavy in fat, sugar, and salt, because those trick our brains into craving them.
As a variant of cauliflower, I suggest lupini (aka lupin beans). I use dried ones shredded into flakes. They'll mix with anything, taste good, and are packed with both fibre and protein.
@@sigmoidbeast7712 well if u buy frozen then atleast get some fish that come from the sea and not farmed.. all those antibiotics are going to add up if u eat a lot of it.
Bro the brushing after eating tip is killer. I often notice that I crave sweets after dinner, mainly to balance the flavors in my mouth. I'm a consistent healthy eater so this has kinda messed up a handful of excellent dieting days. I'm gonna try that
In Japan it's the cultural norm to brush after eating anything, even a small snack. Not that absolutely everybody does it but it's really common for people to keep a toothbrush and a little mirror in their desk at the office for example. I wonder how much of a factor that is in their high life expectancy stats, as well as the high fish and ferment traditional diet etc etc that people usually bring up.
When I lost 50 pounds one of the best ways I found was intermittent fasting. This fasting allowed me to normally skip breakfast other than a black coffee, eat a very light, but protein heavy lunch, and then eat almost whatever I wanted at dinner. I could fit most any meal outside of the outrageous into my caloric needs. That said it's not easy to keep up. Although I'd tend to say this isn't much easier to keep up either. :)
I've been intermittent fasting for three weeks now and I've already lost 10 lbs by basically doing nothing other than skipping breakfast and not snacking or drinking anything but water after 7pm. I haven't changed what I eat at all yet, but I'm starting to scale back on the carbs.
One of my favorite meals to make is broiled tilapia (rubbed with olive oil and Cajun spice blend), steamed collard greens, and beans and rice. The cauliflower rice could easily be subbed in. Oh, and don't forget to slather everything in Tabasco sauce ;)
can somebody pls elaborate on 5:00, it's A HUGE POINT and was glossed over so quickly. It's just one non peer reviewed study stating trace amounts of dangerous heavy metals in popular protein powder (though seemingly no more than say lead found in food like whole wheat bread, shrimp, etc.). Am I just trying to rationalize this away or is there actual valid reason to be concerned and for me to start cooking breakfasts instead.
My favorite takeaway from this is bake fish from frozen with olive oil, salt, and pepper with some lemon afterwards. I'll have to try it since it looks so simple.
Im a kid and i want to be a chef but then i looked at my body and i was like: *I will be a big fat panda to help a bird serve dumpling or ramen to people*
HaRrY pOtTaH your body shape isn’t really a thing to worry about as of now, you should focus on school, because you usually slim down when you grow up and get taller
Adam, Thank you very much for this video, I came back and re watched it when I started dieting for inspiration. The cauliflower rice/ tilapia is great, even cold. I like to add red chili paste as I eat it for a little kick. What I really want to thank you for is the vegetable soup. My entire life I thought I didn't like vegetable soup, turns out I just didn't like the veggies that were being put into it. My current version is: carrots, shallots, dried mushrooms (oyster this time around), frozen peas, roma tomatoes, lots of garlic and a serrano pepper for just a hint of kick. I could, and currently do eat it every day
IMO, that study, if you can call it that without an academic paper or, at the very least, a more rigorous write-up, is a bit suspect for a few reasons. For one, they do provide a spreadsheet of unnamed samples and levels of various of chemicals, but we have no way of knowing how they got those numbers or which products they apply to. They only use a star rating system, with no explanation that I could see for how any given product received its particular rating. There's no way to independently test (and thereby disprove) any of their results or critique their methodology. That should be a big red flag. It's all very consistently opaque, so that we basically have to just trust them while they are charging companies for an unaccredited certification. That is a portion of how they are funded. Only, they seem to be using misleading statements, such as emphasizing that there are *detectable* levels of so-called contaminants, when those levels aren't necessarily at a concentration that is known to cause health risks. Search for Lead in plants and there are countless proper studies documenting its presence and measuring concentrations without scare-mongering over it. There is also a bit of amateurish ambiguity in the infographic (the organic vs non-organic section), and the statement that "55% of protein powders tested had higher levels of BPA" is incomplete. Higher than what? It says organic powders are "up to" however many times worse, but is this comparing the least of one to the most of the other or what? It doesn't say. It is more marketing than it is informational - if you can even trust the information. It was hard to find any credible sources comment on it at all, and more than easy to find all sorts of dubious news and blog sites jumping on the bandwagon with affiliate links and their hot take along with their "unique" solution. Apparently, they've done similar "studies" with pet food and baby food, and Consumer Reports did something similar in 2010 with protein powder, so you can hear the media and industry response from back then for valid criticisms. If you look into the baby food one in particular you'll see a lot of good reasons to be very skeptical of their entire operation, from much more (relatively-speaking) reputable media organizations that lack the inherent conflict of interest by which they exist. That said, there may be risks, after all, it is a "dietary supplement" which means it has the bare minimum oversight from the FDA, but it's certainly overblown if there is one at all compared to getting that protein directly from the source, at least as far as "contaminants" are concerned. I don't mean this as a criticism of you or your decision to moderate your protein powder consumption. I think there are perfectly valid reasons to do that, particularly in your situation when you aren't juicing and you don't need to consume 600 grams of protein every day to maintain. I would just caution everyone to take scientific claims, of all sorts, with a grain of salt, but particularly for those you read on the internet with regards to health, nutrition, exercise and psychology, hell, just dump the whole shaker on it and default to, "that's interesting, but I don't really know until I look into it a hell of a lot more, and even then I *can't* know for certain."
That "study" is in that form because it's easier to read for the commoner persons. but at the end, there are going to be cited sources. your "academic" papers so to say
@@jasontan6013 You might hope so, but here you are coming to their defense without looking for yourself at what is pretty obviously not that. They have a so-called "white paper" accompanying the infographics, which is definitively NOT a research paper, that simply claims that they performed the tests with certain methods to get their results, but mostly it talks about why they would do it in the first place and seems to me to be misleading in the process. In the end, it amounts to little better than me saying that I used lasers to prove that the Earth is flat. If it were true (it's not), you could use lasers to get results that would confirm such a hypothesis, then draw an infographic saying that you did. But would you just take my word for it that I actually did it? I hope not. In the white paper, they cite some other studies from reputable journals to back some of the claims about the risks and consequences of exposure to certain chemicals. Many of them (the sources cited, not necessarily the claim being cited by the Clean Label Project using those sources) appear valid, others I'd need to look into to determine whether the research is sound (being published in journals with less-than-stellar reputations is one particularly relevant reason), but regardless of that, the studies cited don't really back up what they are implying is true in the infographic OR whitepaper, and they certainly aren't definitive about things besides acute or chronic (meaning, consistently over a long period of time but still many magnitudes of what is simply *detectable*) heavy metal toxicity. Just one example - the infographic makes a big deal of merely *detectable* levels of BPA being in protein powder. The research papers cited, being a tiny fraction of the available literature today, say nothing about whether an amount that is merely detectable (whatever that amount is for this testing - we don't know because they don't tell us their methodology that precisely) will have any negative health consequences. The literature isn't even in agreement that BPA does have health consequences in significant levels in humans. On the contrary, meta-analyses done more recently have led the FDA to dismiss such concerns and conclude that some X parts per quadrillion of BPA metabolites in peoples' urine are highly unlikely to cause adverse health consequences. If you don't trust the FDA, then at least look into the meta-analyses that gather hundreds of studies together and carefully examine them. In any case, and perhaps most importantly for this one, the actual research papers cited at the end of the white paper have nothing to do with what The Clean Label Project actually did to come to the conclusions and results for individual products that they did. Again, it's not an academic paper. It does not serve the purpose you say it does, as in, to make it easier for the average person to understand. It leaves a big gaping hole such that nobody could understand it if they wanted to because they don't tell you. Instead, this private organization that gets paid to put labels on food packaging with no oversight or regulations - or consequences if they take their "research" - claims to test products, but doesn't even give the bare minimum evidence that they actually did do the tests, which would be easy to furnish if they had. Be skeptical, but don't just limit it to "The Man." There are plenty of grifts out there.
@@Insolent1 neeeeerd Haha I jest, but seriously yup I'd be just as skeptical Everyone puts so much trust into soulless words without doing their own research Though I'll admit I'm one of them. I trust vaccines despite not knowing a single thing about them except theyre funny sticks that poke
I’m so glad you talk about heavy metals in food. When I was researching food for my daughter it was surprising how much heavy metals were found in baby food. The Clean Label Project helped me find the type of baby food that was good for her.
I have a fairly similar philosophy when it comes to low carb/high-protein dieting; the way I see it virtually anything you eat, even if you go out of your way to eat protein-rich food like legumes, nuts, dairy, will contain a sizeable amount of carbs in the final tally, especially if you make sure to eat at least some fruit and veggies every day. Thus, I really don't see the need to specifically include carbs. Nuts and legumes in particular are a very good replacement for rice, pasta and bread because they also provide a ton of starchy carbs, but with several times more protein per calorie. My lazy bulk-prep food of choice is chili beans because I can make a huge batch that'll last me half a week and it'll taste just fine throughout, arguably better after it has settled for a night.
Substitute the rice with lentils by like half on training days and completly on non traing days, gives you extra protein and fiber, adding some peas at the end of the cooking gives some more prot. and fiber. Lentils make you more full than just rice. I eat tofu and low fat feta cheese for my remaining protein. Tofu is just alot cheaper than most protein sources but contains less protein per 100g than chicken breast but it's more sunstainable for the world, your wallet and your body. You dont have to worry about antibiotics with tofu unlike with cheap supermarket chicken. Smokes tofu actually tastes like something and has more protein per 100g but also a bit more calories. 200g lentils: 44g of protein, 645 calories 200g frozen peas :10g of protein, 145 calories 350g of smoked tofu (thats how much one package has at my supermarket), 64g of protein, 600 calories 100g of low fat feta: 28g of protein, 180 calories two scoopes of casein protein powder ( I prefer casein before sleep, you do you) : 50g of protein, 250 calories teaspoon of oil to fry the tofu, 40 calories (you could also use those cooking sprays, where i come from they just aren't used) vegies, i like carrots and brokkoli, about 200g to 300g of gives you around 140 calories depending on what you choose, about 2000 calories and 194g of protein, if you want less calories you could use low fat fish instead of tofu, I just can't afford as much and tofu just has a lot of volume and makes me more full. You should know that this is more of diet to do a body recomposition and less strict fat loss, aka building muscle and loosing fat at the same time. Lentils can be substituted for beans or chickpeas. You could also leave out the lentils for more feta and ad veggies for a more low carb diet.
@@l.h.395 I mean, I like cauliflower in general. Depending on how it's made, it can be pretty good. I'm more likely to roast it and then puree it, though.
Another piece of advice for forming/breaking any habit: Stop depending on your raw will-power. Remove as many potential bad decisions from your day as possible. Eating too many cookies at once? Stop buying them.
I do have a tip. Instead of going for cauliflower rice go for cauliflower mash, it's MUCH easier to do. Just steam a quartered cauliflower until tender or WAY BETTER throw the quartered head in a pressure cooker for 4-5mins depending on how tender you want it, take it out and mash, and then season with salt/pepper/butter or whatever you would put in mash potatoes. Once you try the pressure cooker faux mashed potatoes aka cauliflower mash route you will NOT go back.
I've been making Ragusea Vegetable Soup for three weeks straight now, with oen batch of Chef John's garlic pasta in there somewhere. Making another pot tomorrow, this time adding some miso paste. Yes, yes, I know it's "just vegetable soup" but, and I admit this with some slight embarrassment, before this video I'd never made a *simple* vegetable soup before. Amazing.
Flavour wise, I would put on some garlic powder and Herbs de Provence or Italian seasoning in addition to the olive oil, salt, and pepper. I would also consider a little butter, even though this is a thinning regimen. Butter is about 100 C per tablespoon. You don't need much, just enough to coat for flavouring. You don't need to drown it in butter like school cafeterias do with corn. Which was great by the way.
0:51 speaking of, it's a common misconception that cardio is great for weight loss. Cardio, is as the name implies, exercises for the heart, which are great for increasing your durability while running, climbing, fighting, lifting weights and for recovery of your composure after an intense workout. Generally cardio exercises increase your body temperature a lot and cause you to sweat and for a long time, people believed that fat is lost primarily while sweating, which is only partially true. Yes, some material is released via sweat, but the majority of fat lost comes from exhaled carbon dioxide and water which is mostly released with urine. The radical weight loss seen from cardio is due to water loss, via sweating, which the body uses to prevent itself from overheating. By the end of the day, you will have recovered all of that water again. Great weight loss exercises are those which require you to use your whole body. Burpees, jump rope and jumping jacks with light weights are great for that. Burpees are also really good for building explosive strength, while jump rope is good for rythm and balance training. Bonus tip: don't dehydrate yourself in order to loose weight. You'll only be damaging your body that way. Drinking a good amount of water actually helps with weight loss. Bonus tip2: certain cardio exercises can be dangerous if you overdo them or have bad equipment. Running is an innocent and healthy activity, but only for 5-10km every other day if you don't have the experiance. Running 10km or more every single day can have a negative impact on your joints. Additionally, based on your diet, you may end up burning more muscle tissue than fat. So be careful and stay safe
Losing weight is 90% diet as most people say. You want your body to use the fat reserves for energy and eating more calories than you need as maintenance will result in your body converting the energy to fat. You still need some carbs in your diet, 0 carbs will result in you feeling hungry and tired all the time. Just count your calories if you wanna lose fat. This is also not to say that you don't need exercise. Do that too. Drink plenty of water. Do not care about water weight. What Adam is doing is called cutting. He is weight training and eating a lot of protein in order to maintain as much muscle mass as possible while keeping his calories down to cut all of the fat.
I thought that cardio was good for weight loss because the Body only uses the Energy stored in fat (aerobic system) after the Phosphagen and Anaerobic systems have been deplenished, which takes a while and running happens to do so.
Hey man, long time viewer here. I really like this video and how informative it was, however, I wish you would make a video like this on how to gain weight for building muscle. Great vid man, and it’s great seeing your channel grow as much as it is.
Hey Adam! I’m really glad I saw this video a while ago. While I did not follow through for a long time, I’m finally doing it, and feel great! Thanks for sharing this, lost 10 lbs and hopefully more later!
@@joatanpereira4272 White rice is super bad for you, actually. It's basically like eating chunks of white loaf wonder bread. Insulin and metabolic equivalent of munching on sugar. Also, though, it's speculated (with a lot of anecdotal evidence, no one has really studied it specifically, though) that Asians tend to have a longer intestines better suited to digesting (and not getting diabetes) from rice. It sounds crazy, but it's common wisdom by a lot of GI tracts and a lot of Asian people (especially Japanese) claim it is true, although there's never been any hard study looking specifically at that. It's unclear if there are differences whether they are due to genetic/evolved traits or brought about due to be being raised on a specific diet since birth. But yeah. White rice is not great for people.
Rice isn't actually bad, but you should start to eat more brown rice and other whole grains. It's a lot better, trust me. Don't ever not eat any carbohydrates. It's necessary.
How do you not get bored af eating the same thing multiple times a day for days? That's my biggest thing-- I will go crazy eating the same thing over and over.
I highly suggest you watch some of Greg Doucettes videos It will help you find healthy protein rich foods with few calories His videos are alsp great if you want to know more about nutrition and training in general
@@rjpaulsen1 This is a general thing. You don't want to eat too tasty things when on a diet, especially if it's a long one. Imagine eating rice and chicken for months and then eating a burger and ice cream etc. Some bodybuilder will gain 10+ kg in a week because they start to fast with tasty food after a cut.
Eating the same thing over and over can make you get the prep and cooking second nature, reducing all of the work. You end up seeing it as a time saver when time is a precious, rare commodity. I went through a time when my dinner was always parmesan-crusted tilapia, baked sweet potato, and green beans. I would wrap the sweet potato in foil and toss it in a 400F toaster oven before running to my apartment's gym. After my workout (~1-1.5 hr) and shower, I'd heat some oil in a caste iron skillet and coat my tilapia in a pre-mixed combination of seasoned bread crumbs and grated parmesan (I used an old parmesan shaker jar for convenience). The tilapia took only a few minutes to cook on each side. Meanwhile, I tossed 200g of frozen Frenched green beans on the microwave. The total amount of time I actually spent in the kitchen was probably 10-15 minutes. Now, I can't do that with a family.

I don't know if you got that in the US but in Germany one eats a considerable amount of "Magerquark" (my translation site says low-fat curd cheese, not sure though). It's basically so heavy in protein and low in fat that it almost has no calories (apart from the little bit of lactose and the protein of course). You can mix it with all kinds of stuff, like berries, oats or even use it as a replacement for yogurt in a lot of recipes. You can even make doughs out of it. It's really an essential diet food for us.
Love it, eating the veggie soup I made on Sunday for the fourth lunch day. I should have been using tomatoes to make soup this whole time! Thanks for your work , from this Friend of DeSoto!
@Adam Ragusea I have a food processor tip for you. If you run the machine, and drop the cauliflower (or whatever) through the chute, you are less likely to have those spinning chunks that won't break up.
I believe they call it "functional eating."
Q: What was up with that intro?

Pureed soups (like tomato bisque, celery soup, sweet potato or butternut squash soup, and carrot soup) are great in ice cube form too!

BalancedEra they're also full of fibers, so the net carbs aren't exactly worrying
1. Reduce sugars
2. Add variety
3. Make sure you're eating enough protein.
Everything beyond that is marginal gains with little real world benefit and a whole crap load more work. Which is why 95% of diets fail.
You are simply not going to put in a lot of extra effort for everyone.

Yeah, Gordon can talk out his ass all he wants, but unless you buy your fish from the fisherman/vendor within 1 mile of the dock where it came in, flash freezing does less to hurt the fish than the time it spends rotting waiting for you to buy it.

This was actually really helpful not just for losing weight but for taking control of your diet for general health reasons

That said I really appreciate that you're promoting the consideration of waste reduction and economics for food preparation.
Substitute the rice with lentils by like half on training days and completly on non traing days, gives you extra protein and fiber,
adding some peas at the end of the cooking gives some more prot.
200g lentils: 44g of protein, 645 calories
200g frozen peas :10g of protein, 145 calories
350g of smoked tofu (thats how much one package has at my supermarket), 64g of protein, 600 calories
100g of low fat feta: 28g of protein, 180 calories
two scoopes of casein protein powder ( I prefer casein before sleep, you do you) : 50g of protein, 250 calories
teaspoon of oil to fry the tofu, 40 calories (you could also use those cooking sprays, where i come from they just aren't used)
vegies, i like carrots and brokkoli, about 200g to 300g of gives you around 140 calories depending on what you choose,
about 2000 calories and 194g of protein, if you want less calories you could use low fat fish instead of tofu, I just can't afford as much and tofu just has a lot of volume and makes me more full.
You should know that this is more of diet to do a body recomposition and less strict fat loss, aka building muscle and loosing fat at the same time. Lentils can be substituted for beans or chickpeas.
You could also leave out the lentils for more feta and ad veggies for a more low carb diet.

I’m three days into this. Added a bowl of oatmeal with a banana and scoop of peanut butter in the morning to fuel my workout. So far so good!
More processed though. I'm thinking it's better for your gut to do the mashing.

3:01 I love the way he says “I’m on my diet” 😂
Flavour wise, I would put on some garlic powder and Herbs de Provence or Italian seasoning in addition to the olive oil, salt, and pepper. I would also consider a little butter, even though this is a thinning regimen. Butter is about 100 C per tablespoon. You don't need much, just enough to coat for flavouring. You don't need to drown it in butter like school cafeterias do with corn. Which was great by the way.
I agree, but I would suggest picked onions. Adding that with the 'sweet' cauliflower + fish will excite the palette a little more
0:51 speaking of, it's a common misconception that cardio is great for weight loss.
@@Worldwidegam3r My comment is only based on the cardio statement as I already elaborated, not the whole topic of the video
I thought that cardio was good for weight loss because the Body only uses the Energy stored in fat (aerobic system) after the Phosphagen and Anaerobic systems have been deplenished, which takes a while and running happens to do so.
