  • Today I want to share with you the stories of my hypoglycaemic attacks - how and why and when they happened, and the things I've learnt from them. I hope you'll never have to experience even one of these, because they're not very pleasant, but if you do, know that you're not alone.
Hypos happen when the blood sugar level drops too low - and in type 1 diabetics this can be fatal as the brain needs sugar to continue to function. Hypos happen every week for me, but usually I can feel them before they happen... it's only these handful of occasions that I haven't been able to act fast enough.
Actually, as soon as I posted this video my mum reminded me of another episode, so that brings the count to 6, so I've shared that other story and a written account of all of them on my blog at:

I struggled with seizures in my teens (epilepsy rather than diabetes) but this struck me how very similar they are - tiredness, excitement, alcohol, temperature, finding myself under the dining room table, wedged next to the toilet etc etc....(!) All unique circumstances, sometimes very, very slight, which tip the balance. Although being seizure-free for many, many years I too had to have pre-conception intervention and also, often wonder if my daughter will inherit the condition. Sx
