We do love the media literacy check because it's more interesting than you narrating grabbing blooscaduu fragments. But we also love it because it's interesting
30:20 the coloniser comparisons are so obvious it is wild how some people don't get it. I saw someone in a comment saying how master hewg is evidennce that the demihumans/misbegotten can be 'civilised' but choose instead to act like 'savages.' Like what are you on about, the demihumans and misbegotten act like 'savages' because they are systematically hunted down and enslaved. Hewg is also a slave, just a more respected one.
I've seen more than one Marika diehard justify all of the ethnic cleansings the Golden Order does in the lore seemingly unironically and it really makes you worry for how much FS fans do or don't understand the narrative and ignore its core messages overall.
I prefer the term imperialist to colonizer. Singling out colonialism implies that people like the Balkan peoples didn't have it as bad because the Austrians and the Ottomans weren't colonial powers.
@@playmsbkI don't think either is quite perfect since both are different, but I'm not sure what a good replacement would be if we're trying to cover both. I'd guess it would just depend on who you're speaking to and what they're most familiar with.
@@seeker38 I agree with you, the two terms are different and the problem comes from conflating colonization with imperialism. I believe that colonization isn't inherently bad, in the context of ancient peoples like the Greeks or Phoenicians founding coastal trade cities or a hypothetical future humanity colonizing uninhibited planets. The inherently bad concept is imperialism, and the colonial empires predominantly used colonization to further their imperialism, which is the source of the conflation.
Bro i am not native american nor english yet i don't have any problems understanding your videos, yet every time you start to talk about lore and compare it to real world it's so interesting that i turn on the subtitles to be able to remember what you said. That must take some talent to engage people like that fr
One reason why I like the lore segments is because it reminds me how much I am taking my severely left leaning social circles for granted. Socio-materialistic hierarchies are inherently exclusionary and are build around the need to exploit others? no shit! but it's important to remind yourself that this is knowledge is as trivial as it may seem to yourself. edit: I think I just stumbled over another thingy for the literacy check: Gideon is a prime example of the colonized intellectual. He is a tarnished himself, one who explicitely seeks to know everything. Issue is: the systems of knowledge (the Discourse) is controlled by Marika, by the Fingers, by the golden order. Gideon is devoted to the academic study of knowledge, but this means that he has to work within the systems of academia, within the systems of knowledge dictated by the golden Order. He turns the ideology which seeks his own exploitation into his own personal paradigm of how to understand the world. As such, it becomes impossible for him to think anything that contradicts the golden order. When he says "I know in my bones that a tarnished cannot become Lord" what he really means is: "I have become so invested into an ideology which presents people like me as second class citizens, that it has become impossible for me to imagine myself or anyone like me breaking out of that system" This is why knowledge is power. Knowing/being told that something is impossible, is a very valid way of controlling one's behaviour. Mistrusting the Fingerreader Crones is the first step of breaking out of that system. Vyke is also an interesting case here: he mistrusted the golden order, so instead placed his faith into the frenzied flame, which destroyed him. A nice example of how revolutions often turn into Authoritarianism with even more severe censorship than the previous governments.
A tip in case it comes up in a future run: You know how some attacks knock you back or cause you to fall over when blocking? The thing that's really annoying against Radahn especially? If you have a weapon that can shield poke, the shield poke animation overrides the knockback one. It lets you do REALLY funny stuff if you learn how to use it well. My personal favorite is that you can literally not get moved by the Orbital Laser of Miquella, which lets you easily punish the move even if Radahn is in the center of the explosion.
As someone with a MA in History focusing on Film history, the analysis you do whilst referencing history is better than what I wrote for my dissertation
As the Ambassador of Niche Weapons, I can confirm the Albinuaric Axe and Halberd are very good when you use them with Arcane Scaling Greases, but otherwise they're really mediocre.

I was wondering if there was some hidden lore in the name "albinauric" so I looked up the entomology . . . . . . . . . Turns out "entomology" means the study of insects.
As much as I liked the last media litteracy bit, this one miss the mark. It's well supported by IRL facts, not so much by the actual media discussed. - The royal capital is half destroyed from the siege, half covered in ashes and the dragon corpse, and the people there just sit down waiting for death or some drug. It's not fine. - Land betweens jars are sentient, sane pots containing inanimate flesh. Shadow Land jars are inanimate pots containing animate flesh driven insane by the whole whipping to meld them thing. They're about as similar as hermit crabs and some weird shellfishes body horror. - Wandering nobles aren't part of TWLID. They are still accepted by nearly every factions, protected by pages, they don't take the bonus damage from holy and anti-TWLID weapons, and nothing indicate they are part of it. - The height of the Age of the Erdtree was a period of peace. Turns out there isn't any need to kill people for them to die, they do that naturally on their own, and then you could just burry them at the roots of the Erdtree. - the most morally sound ending is arguably the one where you tell the laws of the world "nobody should have absolute power"
minor, but important correction, the dragon corpse is not from the Shattering. It was either Godwyn or Godfrey who slew Gransax, that dragon, and Godwyns death is what sparked the Shattering, and we all know that the Tarnished were exiled before the Shattering. Further, the removal of the Rune of Death(Destined Death, as in, natural and true death) is what created the Golden Order to begin with. I'm not sure if Marikas Age of Plenty was before that or not, though? So I dunno if that's actually a correction, more just context.
@@cataegisira1663 The Age of the Erdtree preceed the Age of the Golden Order. It was founded when Godfrey killed the giants. The Golden Order was founded after that, and is much closely tied to Radagon than Godfrey.
You have said sometimes that Elden Ring has burned you out and of course it’s tough to stop doing whatever pays the bills to pursue something else. However, I am pretty optimistic because damn, that is some writing! Hope this isn’t too annoying, I am just amazed at the comedy as well as your ability to read media among other things. our country was very economically prosperous between the 40's and 70's because of how many social programs we had and our investment in middle out economics. it's no coincidence that when the middle class was at its largest people were prospering. People were able to work and actually afford things.

Phil, a possible use for spells! If you use scholar's shield on a shield in the Radahn fight, you can boost the shield's stability/stamina consumption, which can make the staggers you get from the big swings less impactful, so you can take more hits, and potentially makes the fight a bit easier. Only requires 12 int. Maybe?
I feel like the Frog Albinaurics are RB, but I think the Archers probably are Green - bows are often used to give Reach, and they ride on wolfback. Though, their white blood also makes me wonder if both ought to have Devoid, representing that they aren't really part of the natural cycle (unless you bring Loretta to the church in the Snowfields, at least).
