    To all those people that say things like 'she's nothing special at all' or 'she's boring': I am now 16 years old and I've been playing saxophone since I was 7, too. Most people I know (from people who don't play saxophone at all to people who are quite big people in the world of music) say I play saxophone really well and wonder what would have become of me when I'll go on playing saxophone, but still I'm almost jealous at how Jess plays saxophone here... it seems like she does exactly know what she wants to play (and plays the way she wants to, also) and her sound is so warm... I haven't heard that very often, especially not at her age. I have to admit, this kind of music isn't the kind of music I like to play or listen to very often, but if you play saxophone yourself, you know what she does isn't all that easy to do, especially not at her age.
    So Jess, great job and I think (and really hope) you are gonna be a very succesfull saxophonist in the future! :)

    To be 16 and play like she does is something more than special. She has raw and natural talent and skills that any true musician will appreciate. I've been a saxophonist for 20 years and I know that the what she has comes from her heart and soul. To play an unaccompanied solo is not an easy task. Most musicians her age do not feel the music the way she does. I have learned from experience that while I am not a professional musician that music is something more. Also most people forget that music is an art, and art is based on individual interpretation. Ultimately this young lady is very skilled and will continue to grow.

    To all those leaving derogatory comments, this year she reached the finals of the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition, which is hugely prestigious. If you could do that at the age of 17 I would be impressed, but instead you're trying to put someone down because of your own insecurities? grow up.

    regardless of what the jealous 14 / 15 yearolds are saying, she played very well, she just has yet to fully develop her own style and feel that will make her sound unique and memorable, she's playing much more "by the books" right now. But that will come with time.

    I'm more than twice her age and practice everyday. I wish that I had half her talent. I don't know either of the songs that she played but I do know that she played them very well. Excellent job and keep on playing. I'm sure that your talent and audiences will continue to grow. I wonder how many people regardless of age have accomplished what she has in 9 short years. Thanks for sharing!

      +Kyle Hill I am not a *kid*
      I've been playing saxophone for over 15 years, the latter five professionally. In high school I was one of the best saxophonists in the state, I studied under Mark Colby, Kenneth Stein and Greg Fishman, my saxophone was personally chosen for me by the branch CEO of Selmer, and then I was a performance major in college with emphasis on Tenor and Alto sax.
      She's 15 years old. That level of talent and expressiveness doesn't come from private lessons, that comes from pure talent.
      Meanwhile, you lifeless hacks are nothing more than bitter keyboard warriors who have nothing better to do than insult children who are more talented than you will ever be.
      I didn't come here to argue on the internet, I'm sure you'll respond with some kind of inane reply but watch as I literally ignore it. Good day gentlemen. I hope you find satisfaction in mocking kids on the internet.

    Lots of big egos in the comments section here. That's the last thing you'll ever find useful, ladies and gentlemen. The young lady has chops and she's playing TED Talks. It seems she's done very well for herself and does not require your validation to be successful, only her audience's. Perhaps you may consider spending as much time practicing or networking as you do making shrewd comments on TH-cam videos of your peers. ;)

    I've never been crazy about the saxophone's "classical sound." It's such a quintessential jazz instrument. She's not a bad player but her tone sounds so much like a clarinet sometimes. Sorta defeats the fun of the saxophone.

      wow 9 years and her high notes still soundin scratchy been playing 2 years and this is my 3rd year actually started practice this year, lot of progress for me. natural talent all here i have played all through the charlie parker book and ive literally gotten all the altissimo in under a year well the standard altissimo. and yet she uses fancy equipment and i dont. heres a imaginary potato for the rude critisisim.

    • @nick-oo4uj

      also just learn vabrato this year, ive mastered it the jazz vabrato and the classical but it seems in the classical i alter the speed of my vabrato depending on the song. ive learned all the scoops and drops, growls, and overblows by myself in jazz. drops are ny favorite tho, i like going to a altissimo d then just drop chromatically. sounds sick you should try it

      Your = it belongs to you.
      You're = you are
      shes = ???
      she's = she is
      Ordinarily, I would not highlight anyone's weak grasp of or incorrect grammar; however, your remark required a reply.

    • @Misano-Red
      @Misano-Red 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I'm being petty, why did you not reply without using full stops?
      "This is the internet", is not an excuse to be grammatically incorrect...because once we stop 'giving a shit bro', the 'norm' would be to write 'shit'. It's the thin edge of the wedge bro.
      In reply to your omitting capital letters.....
      Grammar is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack, off a horse; and helping your uncle, jack off a horse.

    I'm not here to say that she sucks, she's pretty good, but I actually am 15 years old and I play like her, maybe even better. I cannot know it cause she played just for few minutes, great sound sure, but she didn't do any technical difficult part (I mean doing this we can't understand if she's mechanicly good, I don't know if that's right in English cause that's not my main language but I guess you will understand what I am saying), so nothing, she's not bad but not even that good, for sure not a gifted saxophone player like is wrote in the description. Maybe I'm wrong but it seems like she'll be the daughter of some sponsor of Ted (if they have some, I don't know but I think they'll have) or something like that. Definitely not worthy to listed as an educational talk like "I'm 17" (I loved that) or some others.
