    Hi Tom!! In Portuguese we say something lacks salt, as for example a person can be with no salt or lacking salt. "Ele é uma pessoa sem sal!" Or a movie can be "sem sal"!

    I don't know if this one is used in British English, but Americans will say "watch the grass grow" sometimes. Another used in America is "milk toast".

    Thanks Tom a very helpful video. In Danish we also use dry (tør) and watch the paint dry (se malingen tørre) if we are bored.
    Also thank you for the E-book it is very thorough and instructive.

    I love your British English. I do very basic English conventions though I always use same words and feel my English expressions are dull and stupid. Your videos are very good for over intermediate English learners. Subscribed 👍

    dry = trocken [GER] and could be used actually in the same context. I am not so sure myself if 'Der Farbe beim trocknen zusehen' is used in GER, but it is clear nevertheless...

    Can you or someone tell me what is the pronunciation of "something" at 1:33. It kinda of a reduced word. As if the 'th' sound was somewhat rejected. Do you have the accurate phonetic of it? Please.

    We also say bland food, as for example when we have a stomach problem or intestine problem and we have to eat "bland food!, we say "comida branda"!! It's light with no taste and flavour...

    Almost all words you’ve said are in Spanish. Love too much “bland”, it is like our “”blando”. But more related, even that soft, to someone without personality.

    To watch paint dry,we say "to come on turtle's back" in kurdish.

      That's a really funny phrase; I hadn't heard that before, but it's almost equivalent to our paint-drying phrase! However, it might be better phrased in English as "to travel on a turtle's back."

    Try watching hair grow; you can use many other body parts, such as watching teeth grow. There are other things that we say in my family for boring but I am too polite to use them here.

    b) I can't remember the more accurate translation of the idiom(?) _watch paint dry_ .. but I know we do use _nakakaantok_ (i.e. lulls one to sleep) to communicate a similar state of boredom.
    c) Ironic that _boring_ has such interesting synonyms.. and you included some of my favorites! :)
    d) Can I use _banal_ in the same loose sense? Is that sth natives do?

      @@YangSing1 yeah, for example in Arabic there over 300 names for lions which is justified because lions were common in Arabia, and over 100 names describing ice in the Arctic language which is also justified, but I find it interesting that English has that same thing going but for boredom.
