    You should also mention there's a giant security flaw with Eufy doorbells and their homebase setups. Videos stored on the HB are encrypted with a hash that's tied to the doorbell so if someone steals the doorbell and unsynchs it (basically press and hold the synch button for 10 secs), your videos are now useless. Eufy won't fix this is and should be considered a major deal breaker.

    This is the second home in which th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).

    I’ve owned 2x Eufy 2k cameras (we moved and left the first one at old house), and generally like them, but one big issue needs to be pointed out: they have recently started putting obtrusive ads for their other products in the UI. I wouldn’t care so much if they were just banners in the corner, but they sometimes pop up on the entire screen when you are trying to access the camera feed! So you have to go through and click to close it, which takes like 5 seconds because of fat-fingers and small hit-box for the close button and also the slow UI. That may not sound like much, but when combined with the already existing delay time to bring up the camera feed once you finally get past the ad and can click on it, you can get an obnoxious delay to the point that the event you wanted to see is already over. It’s an unnecessary and very annoying thing, which was introduced in the last year (never saw it before that).

    Overall this is the best battery doorbell comparison test. The only thing letting the Nest doorbell down is the low resolution & the restricted 3 hour event recording that is included without subscription. Hopefully Google will improve this on their next release & give at least 12 hours of event recording free. (Edit) Its lithium battery performance is poor at temperatures near zero degrees & lower. Not only does it loose charge quicker it affects performance where artifacts can be seen in the video footage.

    I've loved my Eufy Dual Cam since I got it a few weeks ago. It has allowed me to both monitor for packages and determine when people have or have not visited our house. My dad has dementia and constantly mentions people visiting. All I have to do is look to see any events that have occurred, and most of the time, there are none. When packages are dropped off (mostly for me), I can then let my dad know to pick them up. He doesn't always realize they have been dropped off despite getting event alerts on his iphone.

      @@TheHookUp it has helped immensely. One day my dad had a fall...and ended up calling the paramedics, and they took him to the hospital to get checked out. I didn't hear about it until I got home to find an empty house. I frantically look for him...then look at my phone to realize my eufy had recorded the paramedics showing up with the police (to gain entry). When I saw that I knew something had happened and I went about finding out where they took him. Without the eufy I wouldn't have known anything.

    Good video. Very informative. I've installed all of these for customers, friends and/or family and my list is the same as yours. I like the Blink a little more than you do, but I'd still put it 3rd behind Ring and Nest. The quality of the Nest is top notch, but it's just too expensive unless you're someone who doesn't care about that. I usually just recommend the Ring and the Blink.

    • @therichway8535

      @@mikelovell75 I like the Blink, and the doorbell is the cheapest of the well known brands, but if you like your Nest Doorbell and it's working properly, I would probably keep it. The Nest is a higher quality, but also costs a lot more. I wouldn't recommend buying it for that reason, but since you already have it, nothing wrong with having a different doorbell from your regular cameras. I have a Ring 3 Doorbell with all Blink cameras. Hope this helps.

  • @B3Fireworks
    @B3Fireworks 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I very much appreciate your videos and all the thorough testing you do. If I had just one request, it would be that you also include a review of each company's privacy policy (what they premise, how easy it is to find and understand, and any public track record of good/bad privacy related events). I know that is a lot more work but I think privacy is a key point to consider when choosing cloud connected devices, especially cameras. From what I've seen and read, I think you'd find the Google Nest (and possibly some others) edge out the Ring overall. While Google definitely isn't perfect, Amazon just seems to do so many more questionable things with your data and camera feeds. Still, the rest of your review and testing process is spot on and I really appreciate all the effort you put into "getting it right". Thank you for all the amazing content!

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      In theory I like that idea. However, I'm a bit cynical of privacy policies. US based companies like Google (Nest) and Amazon (Ring and Blink) have enforceable legally binding privacy policies, but Chinese based companies like Eufy and 360 can pretty much say whatever they want in a privacy policy and there's no recourse if they were to violate it.

    Been my experience with the Ring and the Nest doorbells that the Ring has an alarmingly higher rate of false motion detections even with analytics turned on. One feature about the Nest and Ring battery powered doorbells is that they both can be wired to an existing doorbell. However, with them wired you still have to charge the battery on the Ring whereas the Nest does not. Also Nest now has an annual subscription that lowers the price of the subscription but admittedly is still higher than Ring.

    Thanks for another great video. You are very thorough which makes your videos standout. I have a 9ft entry way and I was wondering what your thoughts are about just installing a Reolink RLC-811 instead of any of these video doorbells. It would solve the motion detection issue and it's cheaper than some of these. And for audio, it has 2-way audio so couldn't you just tell the person what to do? Do people really have a conversation with someone at the door? I think I'd rather just tell them what to do. What are your thoughts (pros, cons) on this setup?

    I'm having night vision trouble with the Eufy dual wired. Looks washed out, which I think it due to the IR light reflection off a wall. It also seems to keep the IR light on all night. My Eufy 2C mounted just above window height has been much better.

    Thanks for the video.
    For me one of the most important feature is to be able to replace the battery instead of removing the doorbell to recharge it. the blink is the only one with removable batteries?
    In addition, can I set that ringing the blink doorbell will "ring" or play a sound in my google home mini which is placed in my living room?
    Thanks

    You gave me the confidence to create my own video doorbell. I use a standard RF doorbell (doorbell > sonoff RF bridge - flashed with tasmota > MQTT > Home Assistant) and 'indoor' TP C110 camera in my porch. NodeRed automation to send a push notification with imgs with around a 2-3 sec delay between doorbell pushed and notification on phone. Tapo camera does not connect outside of local network. I really miss the custom solutions like the door/window sensors, and HA videos in general!

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The HA market has come a long way since I started making videos 4 years ago. I started doing custom DIY stuff when the off the shelf stuff either didn't work they way I wanted (no local control), or was too expensive. Something like the WiFi door/window sensors just doesn't make sense anymore. At the time a single zigbee or zwave contact sensor was $35-50, now they are $10-20.
      As for the Home Assistant content, in all honesty there's one reason I don't make much of it anymore: Everything Smart Home. Lewis makes such good content so quickly that it's redundant for me to also make them (since it would likely take me longer to put them out).

    • @ct33938
      @ct33938 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheHookUp Appreciate the points you raised. The doorbell I made would be around $35 in total, did consider a zigbee button for the doorbell itself, but had the RF doorbell already. The camera was originally used inside as a baby monitor so I put 2 and 2 together to save on ewaste and a few $$$. Other than two-way comms, which we would very rarely use, the whole setup has worked flawlessly.
      As for HA content, can appreciate your comments regarding Lewis. I'm just more of a fan of your content. Thanks for the reply.

      @@TheHookUp I understand your opinion on this. However, since you use HA and want everything as much local as possible (like me), could you still integrate somewhere in your content how easy it is to get something running (preferably locally) in HA? It doesn't have to be much, just a quick mention or a score will do for me. Good video btw!

    • @RossReedstrom

      @@marcowhocares definitely this last: mention integration ease with ha and local control, for sure!

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I definitely still plan on doing that when relevant. None of these options support local control via home assistant. Ring has a good integration, but not local.
      For a little context though, my last video on Robotic Vacuums had an entire privacy and home assistant section. My analytics shows that of the ~30,000 people who watched that video only around 4% of them watched that portion of the video, which ultimately hurts the watch time percentage and video exposure. It's a sad truth, but a truth nonetheless.

    Brilliant reviews. If you do this again, please also include a test that shows how easy it is to steal one of these (CNET does this test). In those tests, the Google doorbell is awful and can be pulled off it's mount easily. The Ring 4 and Eufycam doorbells are really strong and couldn't be removed.
    These doorbells are getting expensive, so it is also a factor when buying them 👍🏽

    Hi Rob, I have the Ring Doorbell 2 which I bought in Feb 2020 and my biggest gripe with it is the two-way talk and how laggy it is. For instance, I would speak through my phone and hear my voice being echo'ed back to me, not to mention the amount of time between when the person at the door hears my voice and visa-versa is too long for my liking. Believe me, I've tried everything to attempt to address this, my network is rock solid, etc. With this being said, do you think that perhaps the reason why you had such good performance on the Ring doorbell 4 is that the cloud service is hosted in the USA thus low latency and thus the data doesn't have to travel that far between your phone and the doorbell itself via the cloud? In my case the data has to travel from South Africa to where the Ring cloud is hosted presumably in the USA. I doubt that doorbells belonging to Ring users in SA are routed to a locally hosted cloud here at all. I could be wrong, but I cannot imagine that the 2-way talk feature between the Ring 2 and Ring 4 is that much different, if any at all.
    It would be interesting to know where the cloud services for these various doorbells are hosted and what the latency is between your house / phone and the cloud service and how that affects performance esp for 2-day talk and being able to view the camera via the Amazon Echo or Google Nest Hub.

Our old Arlo would notify us on Alexa if there was motion and on the arlo app. How do we get the Nest cam to notify us on the nest app AND on our Alexa devices when there is motion and NOT only when someone pressed the doorbell?

    As a user of the Google Nest Doorbell it has performed really well. The main issues I have had with it is when the temperature is below 32° it does have some battery problems and sometimes when I click on motion notifications it gives me a "video not ready" notice. Great to see there are quite a few good options out there.

    • @TheHookUp
      @TheHookUp  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did notice that a few times. There seems to be some kind of a cache that lets you immediately view an event, then a small delay while that event encodes (where you could get the "video not ready" error), and then it available to watch on the cloud.

    I like Wyze's VOIP feature that treats a doorbell ring as a phonecall.
    Separately, Blink and Google have the best exterior designs. The other ones look dated. Also, Eufy's motion detection is terrible.
