      Recommend avoiding any Anker Eufy products for the time being, given the latest security (or rather, lack thereof) issues, as described on today's (November 25, 2022) WAN Show on Linus Tech Tips channels.

Can't wait till you're the size of the TH-cam channel Projectfarm so that you can put videos out like this more often (and comfortably have the money to do so.) This is the second home in which th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).

      I had a similar solution kept in with a steel framed mesh door. Until one day when I was pottering around the house, I didn't close that door properly and my 50KG bullmastiff crossed with ridgeback and staffy broke through the door and dropped the 70 year old postman by his leg....
      The dog let go straight away and it could have been WAY worse and the postie didn't even want compensation beyond medical bills, his ripped jeans and 3 days off work.
      Even though the post office and postman didn't want compensation and the council animal control services were extremely reasonable because it was clearly MY FAULT not the dogs fault the whole ordeal was more expensive than a doorbell at the gate....
      So glad I live in a country where stitches antibiotics and a tetanus shot cost less than 400usd equivalent. Oh and a country where people tend not to sue other individuals for shit like this, not that he would have needed to sue me, I would have just paid out, I even offered compensation but he just wanted a new pair of jeans and his boss just wanted to cover his expenses which came to less than 1000 aud. Actual angels 😇
      It helps that most dog owners just deny everything and make things hard whereas immediately regained control, applied first aid, called his boss, gave them all my details and paid for initial costs within hours and fully cooperated with the council investigation.
      All I'm saying is shit can go wrong and I honestly would have preferred someone stole shit than someone getting hurt because I didn't latch a door properly.

    I've been watching your channel for a good while now. I'm planning on setting up a video security system using 1 cam for the front yard, 1 for the backyard and a video doorbell to cover the front door (as it is recessed, it won't be covered by the camera in the front yard). I'm still on the fence about using an out of the box NVR or setting up Blue Iris.
    How do these doorbell camera's integrate with Blue Iris? I'm specifically interested in the Reolink Doorbell Wifi.
    I would also like to know how well these camera's integrate with Home Assistant, either on their own or through Blue Iris.

    I purchased the Google Nest Wired (not sure which Gen) based on a couple of your comparison videos and have been really happy with the performance. My initial hesitation was the integration with HomeKit, that I have been trying to use throughout the house. It turns out that the options for tighter HomeKit integration are not yet on par with some of the offerings from other companies. The monthly fee does take something away from the Google doorbell, but I think its worth it for the performance that it offers. The video quality is excellent and I have had no issues with connection even with my wifi router being a good distance away from where the doorbell is mounted.
    Thanks for all of your hard work on the testing of a ton of things that I would love to try out for myself but would never have the time to put into it like you have!

    I have the original Nest wired doorbell and a Starling Home Hub which gives me event notifications and access to the live video in the Apple Home app. If I upgrade to the Nest wired (or battery) doorbell 2 then the Starling enables HKSV and allows me to saves clips to iCloud. Since I already have HomePods and an Apple+ subscription for other things it makes a lot of sense to bring the Nest devices (not just cameras) into HomeKit as well.

    This video explained a lot. I've got a question regarding video doorbells and security camera connection to WiFi.
    Background: Purchased Wyzecam door bell and security camera. Neither would connect to our Google WiFi. The reason being is that Google WiFi (mesh) has 2.4ghz & 5ghz both on the same SSID. The Wyzecam products failed to connect once they saw 5ghz rather than simply attempting a 2.4ghz connection.
    We are now considering Google Nest products, which should be compatible. What might you know about products connecting to such WiFi?

    I would love to see you do a comparison on the app for the different cameras, as well as some ONVIF NVR's. I find that the most important feature to me is the usability of the app because most of the time I'm not trying to identify a burglar, I'm trying to see what happened and when. I've found the Unifi Protect app the be the easiest I've seen out of the couple that I've installed in different places. I love the ability to easily scroll through the recording history. I would be happy to jump to a different brand if I can find one that is better!

    @The Hook Up , in your estimation and assuming you notice this comment, would the Nest doorbell using Nest speakers as chimes and Nest Hubs as video targets offer a better experience than the Eufy (or Reolink) with their app installed on a wall mounted 12" tablet connected to in-ceiling speakers? I don't really need automation from my doorbell, just to hear when someone rings the doorbell, see their face at times without going to the door and speak when away. I have cameras +BI for all else.

    Hi Rob, Your video is great if you want to replace your old fashioned doorbell. I have outdoor cameras that cover the front door, so a doorbell with a camera would be overkill for me. I have tried using DeepStack AI to give me alerts, but the response is too slow. I have to believe that pushing the existing doorbell button and having that signal relay to my phone or Echo devices would be much faster.
    It would be great if you could do a video on how to retrofit an analog doorbell and make it smarter. Maybe using a Shelly relay? I'm willing to give up the ability to do a two way conversation (although the cameras can do this) with someone at the door for a simple relay that would send a message to my phone, and/or have my smart speaker announce "someone is at the door."

    Question: Do you have to have a subscription for the Google nest to use it? I don't need it for security, just for notification of when my kids get home and package delivery. Thanks

    Thank you again Rob for a great and informative video.
    Is familiar faces still useless exept for on the Nest? (as mentioned in your test of the wireless doorbells).
    Howcome the wireless Nest doorbell gets 9.5/10 for two-way audio but only 8/10 in the wired version? Is the Wemo really better in this respect?

      My Nest battery doorbell actually performed better than the wired version for 2 way talk, not really sure why.
      Edit: Yes, the wemo 2 way talk was phenomenal, no delay at all, very similar to the Dahua VTO that I tested in my last video.

    Does it make sense to upgrade from Nest Hello doorbell (with basic Nest Aware subscription) to the new Nest 2nd gen doorbell (and keeping the basic Nest Aware subscription (keeping the subscription for other google cams in the house)?

    I'd like to suggest for a future video, a version with a keypad which I could use with a pin to open the door and also compatible to automation, like tuya scene options.. For instance, type a successful pin and run another device, like a light..

    ^ A relative has an OG Ring Doorbell that is connected to the old doorbell through wires, but it is wired and it uses Wi-Fi. So is this doorbell wired or wireless? I'm just confused because we don't plan to do a poe/nvr system as they don't want to hire an electrician or go in the attic to install stuff do we focus on a wireless or wire doorbell?

    If a guy was focused on adding an NVR system (with cameras) to his house, and wanted a door cam: would you recommend going with the Ring NVR, and Ring doorcam ($99) or the Eufy doorcam ($199)? Do the added benefits of the Eufy door cam justify the added burden/inconvenience of having two separate systems/ apps?
    (Anyone can respond, I am interested to hear feedback).
    I am in Canada and it seems really difficult to even find Ring doorcams.

    There is a Eufy 2k wired pro doorbell that has 24-7 recording for the same price as the dual, but it doesn't have the dual camera. Not sure if you can back up recordings to cloud service or maybe with a future update have the home base 3 support. There are also 40% off coupons from time to time that lower the cost on Amazon. Also the Eufy has no subscription with 24-7 recording.

    Amazing video (as usual)! Which are best for HA integration (doorbell presses, motion, video integration, etc.)?

    • @BowWowPewPewCQ
      @BowWowPewPewCQ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I noticed too there was no mention of HA integration.
      FWIW, I may have a somewhat unique application with a driveway gate that is remote with no power. I use an AD410 powered by solar, DC power is a thing, connected to my local network only, integrated into Blue Iris and HA. The Dahua HA integration helps a lot.
      The phone app is still required for 2-way audio. 2-way audio does work within Blue Iris but not with UI3. I have used 2-way audio with Remote Desktop to the BI server. There is no way that I've found to get 2 way audio when off the local network without using the Amcrest cloud.

    • @dpvbischoff
      @dpvbischoff ปีที่แล้ว

      I too am primarily interested in compatibility with Home Assistant, Blue Iris and Frigate. I want cloudless operation and don’t care about Google or Alexa. With Frigate/HA I could push notifications when a person is detected, but quietly save recordings of the wild critters that often cross our front yard, such as deer, bobcats, coyotes, porcupines, etc. I don’t need them waking us up at night, but I like to see them. I might have to just replace by Ring Pro with a PoE camera and a homemade ESP32 smart doorbell button.

    • @BowWowPewPewCQ
      @BowWowPewPewCQ ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dpvbischoff I considered DIY or a camera with 2 way audio and adding a speaker. Then adding a PB in a box. I thought this would be easier. Finding a camera with audio is getting harder, sorry Reolink. Camera speakers are pretty poor when you do find them and finding a low power decent quality one is tough to.

      HA integrations were covered in my last video on local control doorbells: th-cam.com/video/6XCu6L0xn4Y/w-d-xo.html

      Look at the Dahua Villa Door Stations (VTO2202F-P and VTO2201F & VTH5421HW) and Hikvision Villa Door Station, maybe Gen2 IP 2MP Villa Door Station DS-KV6113-WPE1. You should search for video intercom and door stations, instead of video doorbells. You will also probably trade-off some esthetics!!
