Interestingly, this type of jet engine has been built on a larger scale. It is actually called a motorjet or thermojet. Experimental versions used a piston engine to power a compressor, which compressed incoming air. Fuel was added and burned. And the exhaust was accelerated through a nozzle to generate thrust. But this engine was superseded by the turbojet. The primary reason for considering this engine in the early days of jet propulsion is that it avoided the need for a turbine back when superalloys that could handle the heat of combustion were in their infancy.
Should probably clarify in the video description that it's a mock jet engine and not meant to be a proper functional build. Still a neet project though.
If you had a fan connected to the compressor fan and made use of the accelerating gasses coming out the back resulting into faster spinning of compressor fan then you’d have an engine. Right now you just have combustion with consistent but minimal thrust.
@matthewstorm5188 yes you're correct but the way i see it i just think he made an edf (electric ducted fan) used in rc plane models and then he atached a pipe that injects fuel so its not a jet yet a edf that burns fuel
Almost😅 in a jet engine the exhaust gasses turn a turbine blade that is connected to the forward intake blade. The throttle is based on fuel input. You could use a t bone and slot connector to have a easy way to get it spinning with the electric motor in front. Then when you pull the starter motor away and it is self sustained it is a true jet. But what you have now is basically an electric ducted fan with neat after burner. Still a really nice proof of concept. Great work 🎉
Thanks bro I really appreciate. You know such comments motivates me the more on creating better contents ♥️♥️👍 I really appreciate you 🖐️. Have a nice day 😘
that turbine is a fan powered "jet", just wanna make it for a science fair ik it doesn't work like that but i dont wanna go actually make a jet, this is close enough
no combustion chamber and there is only one turbine but thats not a turbine that is just edf with flamable gas coming aout behind but its a good demonstration for a model jet like edf good job
All the comments complaining about it not being a "real" jet engine, lighten up. Most of you likely couldn't even cook yourself dinner and would die of starvation if it wasn't for uber eats.
Very great working principle The fuel I guess is not producing thrust due to low air intake nxt time use a more powerful and a big battery for more intake for a decent thrust output for the amount of fuel used
You should probably place foil on the wooden pegs holding the motor or it would probably burn to a crisp (I don’t know much about this this is just my idea)
@@DylanMartinRacingGo ahead and believe he actually built whatever that was without editing any of the video. It isn't possible to get that put together as quick as he was showing that glue supposedly dry. That's what the editing was 🤡
Should write a step-by-step guide. I would love to use this in my classroom for a project. However, I will have to modify it for more blades, an actual compression stage and combustion chamber, and make it a low-bypass turbofan.
As a kid, I used to think I was pretty cool making little aircraft with wind driven propellers out of pop cans... I realize now, I'm just not cool anymore. 🤣
Guys calm down its just a mini jet engine its not really supposed to produce thrust as its just a scale version. this jet engine is not actually like a real jet engine since jet engines have a compressor which lets the engine generate way more thrust and increase its efficiency and the compression spins the fan blades allowing it to self sustain but on this jet engine it uses a motor. as to recreate the self sustaining parts at this small of a scale is very very hard to do without precision machining. you can use just a fuel rod and push fuel into the engine like seen in the video but, this is very very inefficient for both thrust and fuel. stop hating, its just a cool DIY project that most people can do with things in their household.
except it's not? it does not function like a turbofan/turbojet at all. it's a fan and a flamethrower. agreed, it's a super simple project ppl can do at home, but it's very misleading to call it a jet engine.
Maybe add a combustion chamber section behind using a steel canister or something to cover the flame that won’t melt with a turbine on a shaft back to the “compressor”. Finish it off with another coke can for the exhaust shaped like in the video and you have an actual gas generator
Невероятно круто я оже такое делал и еще буду, ето жвигатель наверное может разгоняться до с самалетом если би он на нем бил наверное до 300км/ч а если реальний то 2700км/ч
Yes it does! The $0.47 electeic motor and aluminum fan certainly create thrust. Is it enough to do anything with? Probably not. But it could be measured, yes. The flame is gas expanding, so would also produce a tiny amount. I think on a small cart with good bearings it would roll across the floor if the battery and fuel tank were onboard.

I thought it didn't need fuel. I thought the electricity would turned the air into fire.

brooo, it was made usin a coke can. who could think that this could be attached to something and go awaaay? kkk
Great little forced air burner. But shaping it like a jet does not make it a jet engine. Might be nice to use for toasting marshmallows though.
Nice project but that's not how a jet engine works!
please can u teach me sir
If you had a fan connected to the compressor fan and made use of the accelerating gasses coming out the back resulting into faster spinning of compressor fan then you’d have an engine. Right now you just have combustion with consistent but minimal thrust.
Bro.. this is just a look like . Not a an actual jet engine. 😂
this is not a jet engine but it does show how after-burners work
stop being so mean guys, it's not like he's creating an original jet engine.
Then he shouldn’t be claiming he’s making one.
Sorry but this is just a mini stove. if it's not self-sustaining, it's not an "engine".
😂😂
@matthewstorm5188 yes you're correct but the way i see it i just think he made an edf (electric ducted fan) used in rc plane models and then he atached a pipe that injects fuel so its not a jet yet a edf that burns fuel
It is an EDF Afterburner
maybe mix fuel closer to the front so it combusts inside forcing air out not out side wasting energy
🤨🤨🤨 Jezzzzzzz! That's crazy😂😂

TH-cam: Homemade jet engine!!1!1!11!!
I think this Idea is usefull for blow torch or make high temperature foundry.
Yeah
That’s what I thought when I saw what it actually is, blow torch.
Great build, with your skill i think you could make a pulse jet engine out of tin can. No moving parts required
Yes! I was thinking that! I made a little one in college out of a Maglight! Obviously it wasn't going to run long, but it was fun to tinker with.
The single stage "compressor" (aka improvised fan disk) is only electrically driven making this closer to a blow torch than a jet engine.
Well it's a jet, it's called an EDF Jet.
Wow.. kid.. if you are a kid.. you have a bright future ahead of you.😊😊😊
Nice
He does not lmao
So does it actually work on an actual rc plane? Like maybe not a huge plane but like a small one?
thats what i was thinking

There is no fire in the can. The fuel nozzle is almost sticking out of the back and the fan is making sure it all blows out.
You should not talk anymore
How the heck did you balance those blades? How much thrust is it producing??
less than what it weighs clearly

Petrol
Sanitizer
Perfume
Ethanol

Put a diffuser so it stops the rotation of airflow

Making this in a cone instead of a can will produce thrust as it will actually compress the air

So if si make it with better materials and cone shaped, will it actually create more thrust and sound???

What happens to the fire when the battery runs out?
