It’s March Madness season and in honor of it, today I’m doing a March Madness-style bracket of 8 smartphone wide angle lenses to determine who makes the best smartphone wide angle lens on Earth. Yes, there are still a ton out there that I may or may not know exist, but I got my hands on 5 lenses that I believed were the most popular followed by 3 of top lenses (by rating) on Amazon that I thought would be most compatible with the iPhone XS (based on comments). So we’re going to be comparing Sandmarc, Moment, Rhinoshield, Lemuro, Sirui, TODI 4K, Xenvo, and Anazalea, all of which produce similar width photos. Who makes the best lenses on Earth? You'll have to watch to find out!

you do not need a iphone for moment and sirui. I have the sirui and use it with a moment case for the s9+ That does give some vignetting but the rhinoshield case with lens adapter for s9+ does not have vignetting in the corners anymore. I love my sirui lens for sure.
You can actually use use it with any phone if you have the clip

Are there any lenses besides Sirui which fit onto the Moment Case? I have a moment case and Sirui lenses, but would like to try others. And again Mr. Moore, your video production quality and content is class leading! The heavy hitters like MKBHD and Mr. Mobile need to make room. Keep up the great work and thanks for the fresh perspective! TH-cam tech videos were starting to get a bit stale.

I've enjoyed your mobile lens video review from the few that I"ve watched. I'm currently working with a iphone6 so the sandmarc isn't an option for me. How would you compare the Moment vs rhinoshield for a wide angle lens? Currently leaning towards the Rhinoshield due to the price and it's nice that it still fits in the moment case with their bayonet locking system.

Great video. Please can you also do a comparison of macro lenses. What are your thoughts on the Moment clip compared to their cases. Clip seems more versatile if you have multiple phones but how easy is it to get centered? Cheers

Great video! I'm in the market for a wide angle lens like this, but unfortunately I have a mid-range phone, which Moment, Sandmarc and Rhinoshield don't support. Looks like Todi 4K is my best option. Thank you for the helpful information!

Not taking away from moment since they're awesome.
But I have to say, aside from likely having good glass, the biggest reason moment lenses win out alot is because of their mounting system. If you want your lenses to work the best you need to figure out some type of modification and DIY to get them to display the best.
The screw on threaded mounting systems are a bit better for modding cases to work with the lenses.
The trick is to get the lens opening the closest you can to the phone lens. I've done this already with my S7 and Ulanzi's lenses. HUGE HUGE difference between the included clip and modifying a case and threaded washers etc. Or HOWEVER you decide to do it.
JROD can you compare ulanzi wide with moment? I’m considering switching from moment to ulanzi. They have awesome wood case, awesome anamorphic lens for way cheaper and now the DOF adapter for SLR lenses! So exciting.

hello, I have a question regarding phone lenses? what would you recommend for club environment? I feel its like a mix of lowlight and all kinds of lasers/lights so i cant get my head around on what i need

Which case are you using? I got a rhinoshield case for the iPhone X and got the adapter for it. Are the moment lenses perfect fit with the rhinoshield adapter?

Ildefonso Martinez yes I want to know the same! And shit... check out ulanzi new DOF adapter for SLR lenses! Killer miracle for those of us wanting Bokeh effects for real. I’m a mom of 5 blogger and I never grab my DSLR canon... always on the iPhone. I love portraits and video but with out the DOF it looses the magic.
I bought an AikeGlobal similar on Todi 4K lens and it was plagued with lens softening and the bread clip solves the problem. Just try to use bread clips and before locking your lens on the screw make sure the bread clip acts like a washer on your lens and tighten it and the lens softening at the edges becomes minimal because you are increasing the gap between the lens and your camera.
Have you KASE lens yet? Might want to check that out. Btw. . Great content

Hi, I have recently been researching on videography with smartphone
cameras. Using dedicated lens accessories can elevate the
effects you want for your cinematic creation, however we have to end up
compromising with the quality with unwanted distortion on the edges when
using it on smartphones. I have a pair of lens from an old DSLR camera I
wanted to incorporate with my smartphone camera, however they require
"DOF" adapters and customized smartphone shooting rig for practical
usage. But this DOF adapter is very expensive, I have come across some
content where people have built this adapter with combinations of lens
and mounts, but they aren't very clear on it. I understand that this
sector for cinematography rig setup is unconventional, but if this topic
is something you find interesting and would consider making content on,
I would appreciate it. :)

Hello Taylor. Please help. Does any other brand of phone cases support the moment lenses? I mean the mounting mechanism. Since moment does not produce anymore phone case for galaxy note 10 plus. I just dont want to use the universal clip. Thanks man

Awesome video, exactly what I was looking for. Amazon reviews don't tell me much when it comes to a proper review of sharpness, distortion, and aberration with a wide mix of conflicting opinions and uploaded pics that don't do a good job demonstrating the details if at all.
Only recommendation I have is if you could include comparisons using backgrounds that emphasize some of the differences between lens quality, kind of like at www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Comparison-Tools.aspx , and maybe even compare with DSLR lenses to help people who are trying to see what they loose when leaving their DSLR at home and instead buying a wide angle mount.

Going with the moment lenses because they are more future proof due to the wider phone models covered and they have the variable nd's that fit over the moment lenses or direct over the phone lens itself.

The honest answer is very early I became obsessed with doing all I can to produce beautiful videos and since then, I Study other youtubers, I study film, I practice and then scrap stuff I don’t like, I take chances and sometimes I fall flat on my face, and ultimately I just produce what I personally like and hope other people will like it too! But, tutorials here on YT help a whole lot :)

What about Ulanzi? They have same wooden case as moment and all the lenses. I heard their anamorphic was amazing for like $60. I’m debating on switching over to their case, and getting all new lenses. I have all moment lenses now minus anamorphic. About to get new iPhone 11pro and Osmo 3.

Have you tried sandmarc's near case? I heard great things about the lenses but people said they were experiencing the case breaking or not holding the lens so it's making me torn between sandmarc and moment, preference? I don't use a bulky case now I just want the lens to be effective.

+Kristine Tatelman did you mean their “new” case? If so, yes I’ve tried and truthfully, mine broke =\ one of the volume buttons on it fell off which I was pretty sad to see. I’m hoping they improve the quality on them here quickly!

You could have tried sirui lens on rhinosheild case . Both use same mounting system . I don’t see any vignetting on my iPhone XR . Also I would like to mention that Sirui lens cost less than half of what moment costs . And quality is as good as moment. It hard to not recommend Sirui

@@alantan2176 Hi Alan , I am currently using solid suit for iPhone XR with lens adapter ( sold separately ). I have tried using adapter on other cases ( mostly local ) but no luck . There is kind of rim on the adapter with perfectly fits in the recess provided on the case . So I don't think that the adapter will fit on any other cases . If you find such case please let me know.Even though the rhino shield case provides excellent drop protection , I would like to have a Slimer option
