It's my favorite song. I heard it in a NETFLIX series and I told my dad to find me the song, the next day I showed it to my music teacher. And the other year we sang it in school celebration. I will never forget it
I like to see it similar to coraline, the original books were way darker but the adaption make it sort of suitable for children yet traumatized some along the way
[Verse 1] When the darkness opens wide, Swallowing up the sun inside. Dappled stars they prick the sky, Blanket on which the moon will lie. Why must daylight always dim? Creeping dusk so cold and grim. ‘Tis the blackness of the night, Teaches us how to see the light. [Verse 2] Shadows fall upon the earth, Burying secrets in the dirt. All is blind, then suddenly, Everything shifts, yours eyes they see. Why do shapes look different now? Bitter tongues sounds sweet, somehow? ‘Tis the blackness of the night, Teaches us how to see the light. Why do shapes look different now? Bitter tongues sounds sweet, somehow? ‘Tis the blackness of the night, Teaches us how to see the light
Had a baby 8 months ago he was having a crying fit (throwing a wobbly ) and my 9 year old daughter started singing this song to him and he instantly stopped crying....it's been apart of our bed time routine ever since. 😅
I think I’ve listened to this a hundred times since last night. Im obsessed with how amazing it is. I’d still love a celtic cover version. Idk i think it’d really cement the folklorey feel
The haunting enchantment of this song completely incapsulates a grim tale. Hauntingly dark but glimmers with beautiful light in ways you wouldn’t expect. Yes I know that made little to no sense I was just trying to make it sound poetic and got lost. In simple terms like everyone said hauntingly beautiful
I feel bad it didn’t get a second season- but in also glad that they ended the story on their own terms. It was beautiful to see book open and close without any smudges or tears
After seeing three episodes of the series, I've told my 10-year-old pupil: "Hey, I've found a series on Netflix that you would love!" She said: "What, Squid game?" Me (horrified): "No, A Tale Dark and Grimm.." She: "Oh, I've seen that already." Her next question was: "Can we play the song?" So now, I am writing down the music for her to play on recorder. :-D
After watching the series, my 7 year old son loved this song so much that he asked me to search for it, which led me here. This is haunting and beautiful. 🙏🏼 thank you
I listen to this song like everyday and today I woke up very late because I was dreaming that I am Gretel and just imagined a whole movie. Seriously the BEST series ever I hope season 2 does come out
Great music! I got a huge flashback of another dark tale with a haunting outro: Wizards, only time will tell. Most of you are probably too young to even know the movie... ^^
What a lovely song! My kid is obsessively learning this, so I've started learning the harmony. I like the way this is scored, with the low ominous piano (?) chords at the end of some of the lines, and the sparse sound of the dulcimer.
Like literally the show was it was a lot darker than expected, but it was so action packed, and filled with so many hints of fairy tail, I assume it was based of the popular old-time writers, brothers Grimm
hello from Greece..excuse me for any mistakes i make in typing..This song is very nice , well done Bravo Michael Kramer!! also the story and the books... there are stories tales for adults and others for kids and all have meanings to say to show us , for life for humanity for everything.
Thank you for this spectacular video!! Helped me so much and I found the full version because of you!!😊 Do upload more videos and I also subscribed!!🥰❤

These lyrics were so spot-on that I stopped watching the episode and Googled it. I wish this was with all the nursery rhymes we were introduced to at a young age. It's message is wise and comforting -- to not fear darkness or see the world as black/white and so scary. Most adults should hear this song, lol! ( And to those who say the series is too "dark," it is called DARK Grimm. And it might look more so compared to the super sweet brainless cartoons for small young children.
This is probably the wisest song I’ve ever heard if someone would hear this before the series they would not have know it’s from a literal kids series btw its a great series 👍👍👍
Please wow I loved it I can't wait for the next one I bet it will be better but it will be hard I love this song to I can't get it out my head since I have seen it I've watched it 2 time 3 time now but only on the 3rd the one that ha you will have to watch to find out as it's worth it 5 ☆
When Michael Kramer uploads something after two years of no awesome music: *_*audible zooming noise*_* No, seriously, this is really eerie and pretty. I absolutely love it. I really loved those vocal harmonies! The lyrics are haunting, and so is the melody. I especially love the piano and whatever that stringed instrument was (I’m not too musically experienced, sorry!) I’m kind of curious, will we get to hear Ninjago Seabound’s soundtrack anytime soon? I’ve been obsessed with it ever since first seeing the episodes.
Thank you! That bowed instrument is called a “bowed dulcimer.” It’s a pretty rare instrument, so no worries about not knowing its name. I know it’s been a long time since uploading any Ninjago videos, and I appreciate your patience. it’s been a pretty intense couple years for me. 8 TV shows, 4 movies, and being a new father hasn’t left much time for anything else. I hope to get back to new uploads soon though! And if you haven’t checked it out, definitely give the Ninjago musical journey a listen! We released it this summer - A nearly 3 hour remastered journey through the best parts of the score over the last 10 years: th-cam.com/video/2iNNdFlmNKM/w-d-xo.html
Bruh it's literally intense and dark...its not too childish and not too matured it's just perfect with alot of life lessons this series is incredible
Thank you!!!
"this series"?
there is more of this... darkness?
there is more of this... light?
there is more of this music?
edit: i know nothing of this series lol

Yes yes YES! This show needs more recognition! Srsly, my mind expected normal dark fairytale stuff..but the story was WAY darker than I expected
Lol you should read the books. Way darker. The show nails the humour but they really toned down the darkness of the story.
I like to see it similar to coraline, the original books were way darker but the adaption make it sort of suitable for children yet traumatized some along the way
“Kids are always losin’ things.” Hansel:”Hey, there’s a foot in that one. Lil foot-leg.” I could not stop laughing omg 🤣
Whenever I sing it, my friend says I make it even more creepier :’(
@@freakroadto40subs82 why make it creepier, its nice to listen to as the original form. Its beautiful yet haunting
So haunting. I love how those low piano notes and creepy music box melodies are incorporated to make it feel eerie.
Thank you!! It actually took quite the effort to capture those low piano notes, so I’m so happy to hear that liked them : )

Yeah, agree. Also I think they were intended it to follow common Celtic's/medieval melody

You don't know what happiness truely is without tragedy and difficulty.
Wow, I never knew something inspired by medieval folk music could be so captivating.
