my whole family tree has been making our own oil cold pressed for generations from our own trees. we use it for everything like salads, and cooking. About 250 litres per year shared between 5 families. there has been no serious illness or disease anywhere. all my grandparents lived to mid 90s. my last living grandmother is 94 and her mind is as sharp as a someone half her age.

Hello Dr Berg. From the bottom of my heart, I just want to say thank you for the work that you do. You have literally saved my life. I used to be overweight, mentally foggy, and emotionally unbalanced. A routine physical indicated that I was a prediabetic. After watching your videos, I started practicing One Meal a Day. This one meal being a massive bowl of vegetables (spinach, kale, cabbage, Brussel sprouts, among others), with boiled chicken (skin on), one can of sardines, two boiled eggs, and a heaped spoonful of chia, flax, and hemp seed blend, with a drizzle of the chicken stock as a dressing. It is astounding how mentally and emotionally strong and resilient I have become in the span of two months since I started this, not to mention going from 175 to 153 pounds, and yes no longer a prediabetic. I also initially did a whole lot of exercise by running on the treadmill everyday for an hour, but have recently cut back on that, and replaced it with more sleep, which has been equally tremendous. You are a blessing! Thank you for your courage in getting this message out. I send you and your family the Love, Peace, and Positivity of the Universe!

With a permeable or leaky gut situation, which has caused inflammation and chronic pain throughout my body, I’d been cooking sweet potato, mushrooms and onions in coconut oil. It became apparent that inflammation and pain increased the following day and my own research came across something that mentioned Coconut oil actually exacerbated the permeable gut lining due to the MCT. I’ve since stopped preparing any fried food and instead blanch, steam or boil only. There does appear to be a correlation in less inflammation and reduction in pain. Perhaps all oils are off my menu in the short term as I work toward repairing my digestive system. I eat very very little as it is, but it’s a fine line between ensuring enough energy to operate and keeping intestines relatively clear for repair to occur. Thanks for your videos Dr Berg. This health epic I’m on is much clearer because of you and others like you who share fundamental knowledge about how our bodies work.

also might be the smoking point of it?
I can't tolerate coconut oil in cooked food but I can tolerate it raw, also you could try starting with half a teaspoon and then a teaspoon....I know what you might be going through cause I'm also chronically ill. Some days it's really hard, when my inflammation increases. I can't tolerate no matter what I eat. It's so sad and frustrating. My biggest problem was breakfast. I kinda found something I can finally tolerate in the morning. That is sorghum. It helped me with my symptoms. I also just use macadamia nut oil for cooking. It suits me. but your health condition might be different. I don't know if you are on a diet like AIP or not but I hope you can gradually reintroduce things

@@muniaisworthit Could be, I don’t want to experiment too much as pain is insufferable. I choose to take no pain killers as they are known to destroy gut micro biome. I have coconut yoghurt and walnuts/ macadamias for breakfast, so in a way, still consuming some coconut oil I suppose? Haven’t tried Sourghum yet, but will look for it. I do find that 10000iu of VitD3 a day has helped with inflammation and pain. I also take B1, VitC , Tumeric, Magnesium, Probioticts, B6, Boswellia, occasional B3 supplements. I stopped cooking on cast iron pots and pans too, as high iron levels compliment the inflationary pain. Eating plenty of green salads and wild caught fish.

Please. I consume both, but I know that coconut oil has a relatively low smoking point (150 degree C) due to the fact that it contains short to medium chained saturated fat instead of longer saturated fat. In this case, the smoking point of EVOO is a bit higher (175). For high temp cooking (250), it is better to use clarified butter (ghee) and/or clarified palm oil (well not containing that much phytonutrient but more stable for cooking)

Dr Bergs are some of the best health videos on here for sure, I really enjoy them. Personally I prefer coconut oil as I like the taste better plus I don't seem to get acid reflux like I do with extra virgin olive oil, I find coconut oil more easily digestible but that's me personally some people may be able to "stomach" it better. I do like EVOO from time to time especially in summer with a chicken or Greek salad, wow does it taste good on those. Other than that I'm not a huge consumer of it. I like proper butter too, very nice in mashed potatoes and a knob dropped into soups, casseroles and slow cooker dishes always gives them a huge flavor boost.
