As a new player to the game, I was a hoarder for sure. Thank you for saving my sanity... :) Now I just need to learn how to make builds to the play style that I like to play.
Gear Score kind of matters. It matters @490+ to get into the RAID but that's about it. That being said, most good builds will be 498 - 500 because of recalibration. Before you toss out that low level purple piece make SURE you check the attributes. Some low level purple, because they role single stats more often, will have the highest stat you can get. As an example almost all of my +12% (Highest I've seen) AR, Rifle, Marksman, Pistol damage stats on gloves came from purple gear at 300+ GS. Here is a great visual of what all the top attribute values are on each piece of gear so you can make sure you don't accidently throw away that GOD role just because of GS or color. imgur.com/a/JZe4TPa

I'm 496 and purposely haven't done the raid yet because I want to go in with the best setup I can possibly have after I can decipher my needs from my wants with my gear. For the most part, I've played D2 aimlessly and I'm starting to get a better understanding as I go along thanks to vids like yours.

This is good info. I have been spending a lot time looking at the perks on these gear sets. You are so right about talents that are good but have no relevance to the weapons a player uses.

I just made a list of brand sets I wasn't interested in, checked talents on those as well as under 497 items, and took my inventory from 100 to 56. Great video, thank you.
I was hoping you didn't scrap these vids. Always have inventory mgmt issues. Was able to carry over same concepts from D1, as in draw a line in the Sand GS wise. You're confirmation that I'm on the right track is reassuring! Keep doing what you do good Sir!
One thing I do that helps me keep gear sorta “organized” is roll attributes that synergies with that gear item and I rarely use two pieces of the same gear set. For instance my main build I run with focuses on AR and LMG damage. So I run a Fenris Group chest piece with unstoppable force with stacked AR damage. With my Petrov piece, I stack LMG damage that way those pieces alone give me at least a 15% damage boost for each of those specific weapon types. Add other gear pieces rolled with damage and one of the specializations and you can easily get 35% added damage for your primary weapon, 15-20% boost for your secondary, and still have a ton of armor and whatever other attributes and talents you like.
Always pay attention to the Alps brand gear. They always have the best stat rolls to recal on better gear. Also just because it's purple don't automatically trash it, those also have good stat rolls to recal. Usually the highest you can find.

490 mask with 32% damage to elites isn't trash gear score dosnt matter look at the stats before assuming, that could be re rolled into a 500. Also gear sets same thing always look before you jump.

I do think however that a tank/healer role may be of value soon, which makes it even harder to sort out gear talents/roles such as bloodsucker, patience, safeguard, and preservation on weapon with protected reload.

Just as a heads up, before destroying any Gearsets, look at their attributes! Usually Gearset pieces drop higher attribute rolls than High End pieces!!

It really hurts to hold on to a low gear score item with superb talents and attributes because youre really being shortchanged. On the other hand, you cant just equip high gear score items with trash talents and attributes because youll be underpowered. Great work man. You ought be a teacher or a professor. Info from you is easy to digest and understand.
have to disagree with gear score. My best overall gear piece is a gila chest piece thats 493 with bloodsucker, 7% weapon damage, 4 headshot damage, and 16% total armor. I rerolled the headshot to 24, and i should add its GiLa with a max base armor roll for its gear score. Its higher than all my 500 gear score chest im holding on to. Also, I have a 460 fenris chest with very high attribute rolls, so i hold onto it, even tho it had 13k less base armor that an average five hundo gear score roll. Gear score is definitely not as amazing as your making it out to be. My 3 best weapons to date with 14 days played are all beween 493-499.

ALSO i did extensive test on Self-Adjusting... it works, people just dont know the right way. It boost passive healing (not being shot while in combat for 5 seconds) and is 20% of Armor Regen XX/Second mods and specs.

It kinda is, DtE can roll like 10% higher than that on higher gear score. That's a whole talent's worth of DtE.

But you can't roll gearset attributes onto high end items though.
