  • One of the many questions I get, is what to do with your body while driving. Is it better to lean in or lean out. But no one can give a clear reason as to either. Today, I took on that topic and gave my opinion as to how I think you should keep you body in the kart!

I usually lean out to get the inside wheel to pick up since karts don't have a diff.

Leaning out makes a massive difference in my humble opinion, I've tried both, better grip, better lap times. 🤷‍♂️

I lean out because it gives more load on the outside tires lifting the inside tires making it easier to turn

me too, in rental karting its important to get the extra grip and making it turn better

@@u982245I don't think in rentals leaning is going to do a thing cuz they're so heavy and the chassis doesn't flex as much as race karts

@@lachlanjeffery88for sure makes a difference in rental karting, the things aren’t as powerfull so the little leaning already makes a difference. To most driving styles in rentals atleast

If I lean out I’ll flip with too much grip lol

Keeping your eyes horizontal to the track surface will help with not leaning in or out too much too.
Great point about having a correctly fitted seat, it's very important.

Mark Kimber is the guy with most lean out.
Oakley Pryer is the guy with the most speciel body movement.
I myself use leaning inside and outside when there is low grip and stand still with high grip or perfect setup

I lean out on some corners, as I am taller than most it helps to rotate but if I lean to much I loose grip, so I only lean my head

In Norway it is very much focus on leaning

I race with rental karts. I tried to stay centered but, as rental karts very so much, some times I lean for the outside before the turn, so my weight is "already" in the "right" position during the turn. But is the minority of times.

I'm very short and small, I don't even think I can move my body around when driving. There are some tall drivers that are very good on the wet moving their body around, but I don't think I could achieve that.

Yeah i think he does that to stabilize the back inside a corner and to decrease the lift so he has longer time on 4 wheels

I think you lean outwards so that the inside rear wheel lifts better.
