I saw Kenny Rogers and the First Edition way back in 1969. What a group, what a show. Whenever I saw Kenny in later years and even today I still think of that early Kenny and the First Edition. Never be music like that again.
hey, that's Mickey Jones on drums... he was on "Home Improvement" back in the 90's... before that he was playing drums for lots of people... cool dude!
flagemdown66 I'll always remember Mickey best as the crooked mechanic/sheriff that took Clark Griswald for $500 for "four bald tires and a tow" in "National Lampoon's Vacation". But the man also played a helluva drum kit...besides his time in the First Edition, he played with Bob Dylan on his '66 world tour and many other acts 💖.

This would've been awesome if the late Glen Campbell was here doing his original guitar solo for this song. Also, I hope drummer Mickey Jones' rest has been peaceful.
When I was a kid I always wanted to go to Kenny Rogers house for Christmas. When I found out he did this song, I knew I wanted to go to his house for Christmas.
That drummer was the best mechanic and sherif in National Lampoons Vacation- the best carpenter on TOOL TIME- and the best drummer in Sling Blade. Oh, and he was pretty good in this band too 😉😉
If I'm not wrong, that's Mickey Jones on drums, who filled in for Levon Helm when he left Dylan's "gone electric" tour. He's also a character actor. Plays a biker a lot.

its such a shame he went to the dark side lol,,,,kenny and the first edition had some really great songs in the seventies,,,,maybe it was the sixties,,lol
From SongFacts: Written by country music "outlaw" Mickey Newbury as a song about junkies, this was first recorded by Jerry Lee Lewis on a country album in 1967, but he vetoed releasing it as a single. Meanwhile, some members of the New Christy Minstrels (including Kenny Rogers) broke away to form their own group to do an elective mix of pop, rock and country songs. The idea was to have four lead singers in the group, each singing three songs on the album, which would provide four different sounds to choose from. In addition to Rogers, the group's vocalists were Mike Settle, Terry Williams and Thelma Camacho. The group was produced by Mike Post, who didn't like Kenny Rogers as a vocalist at all, but Kenny sang this tune and it became a huge hit.
""Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)" is a counterculture era song written by Mickey Newbury. Said to reflect the LSD experience, the song was intended to be a warning against the danger of using LSD. "
